Shantae Series

Speaking of equality, I also think it's worth noting how few characters there are that even match Shantae's credentials --> (brown-skin | female | lead protagonist | 2D - Platformer series |Original IP)

2D Platformers are one of the most popular styles of video game out there, spanning hundreds if not thousands of original IPs, and yet I can only think of maybe one other character that matches her description. Help me out here, because that sounds pretty disappointing.

Heck, even if you counted males and licensed stuff too, Shantae probably falls on a list of fewer than 10 characters. She's rubbing elbows with Michael Jordan. You can't even count Michael Jackson on that list either!

Anyway, I'm just glad she's going to stay brown.

Not bad, Denizen. Still trying to think about Shantae's Move Set idea for Skullgirls. like QCF + HP for Flintlock. :)
 
I really liked the look of Shantae back in the days when I saw the game advertise in Nintendo Power. Never did get the original cartridge (which of course is worth OODLES now). I did pick up the sequel when I got a 3DS and will be getting the Virtual Console version of the first one, soon.

Loved that song our girl Cristina did for 1/2 Genie Hero.

Yep, seen it happen before. The first week is fast, then there's a lull, and then in the last two or three days everybody who's been sitting and waiting (or trying to scrape their money together before the deadline) fires off. Pretty common on Kickstarter.

If you look closely at the stretch goals, one of the things they apparently want to do is implement voice acting in the cutscenes... Cristina could totally get away with using her Cerebella voice for Shantae.

I kinda figured that, it's obvious.

On the other hand, I don't want Cristina using that kind of voice on Shantae as it will make her sound too raspy. I'd rather she use her voice for something along the lines of energetic and moody for Shantae.

Just to be fair, the other character I was thinking of was Annet from El Viento.

But even with her, you could argue that Earnest Evans (a Blonde White Dude) was considered the actual lead character of the series. So yeah, Shantae really might be one of a kind!

I looked up the Amazon price and YOOOOOOOO.
Then I looked up the price for Oracle of Seasons and YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
I actually had Oracle of Seasons a long time ago, if I can find that...
No those old games are only worth serious dough in factory conditions; Still in package and untouched. My copy of OOA is probably naked in the bottom of a toy box in the attic.

It's almost halfway to it's goal now, and after only 4 days. With 26 days left It might be able to break a million.

I think it would have made it already if Mighty No 9 didnt pop up out of nowhere.

Honestly, I'd just like to see Shantae added to the list of Characters That Otaku Of Color Can Cosplay Better Than Anyone Else. It sucks -- all they've got is Anthy, Cerebella, and Ms. Fortune. Every other popular character is either too male, too white, or too Asian.
 
I'm hoping we get at least one extra chapter out of the kickstarter for 3 chapters plus one finally seems kinda short.

Matt Bozon answered my question in the Sup Holmes Stream about Skullgirls and Shantae being in Skullgirls! Wowzers! This is amazing for me, since i made a move list for her, supporting WayForward's Kickstarter, and now the stream that he answered mine. Now i really want to see Shantae as a Guest Character in Skullgirls! :)

That's good, but it kinda spoils the ending that Shantae gets her powers back.
But let's be honest.
WE all knew it was gonna happen.
 
Wait I'm confused. Are you guys saying that Shantae being a guest character in SkullGirls is confirmed?
Where the Hell did this all come from? Has Lab Zero agreed to this or is it all in jest?
Can somebody be clear about this for me?
 
In the meantime, we finally reached the midway point on the Kickstarter. 200K gone, 200K to go.
 
i have a 3ds so i have no reason not to buy it i gotta play the other 2 though

I recently bought the first Shantae for GBC. and it was well worth the $5 I paid for it, put a few hours into already but I can already see why it has gotten so much praise.
Now I just wish I had money to both contribute to this Kickstarter and to buy the DSi sequel. =/
 
I heard the original Shantae is on the 3DS shop, so I may check out this game I keep hearing about. Also, Shantae is one seriously pale-skinned Arab. (Arabian?)
