Hey all you genies and pirates! The internet can be a large and scary place, so we thought we’d make it easy on everyone and share some handy links to all the Shantae news that’s fit to print, er, upload :)
We’re lining up more interviews and articles as we speak so hopefully every corner of the internet will hear of Shantae: Half-Genie Hero! So remember to check out our website, "Like" us on Facebook and "Follow" us on Twitter to keep up-to-date!
And in new…news…we have another local event for everyone in Southern California!
The WayForward team has teamed up with Giant Robot to have a super awesome Shantae party (and Patty Wagon will be there too)! Virt will be making all your favorite funny noises and anyone who attends will be able to play Shantae and the Pirate’s Curseand Mighty Switch Force! 2. The Shantae: Half-Genie Herotrailer will be playing all night and who knows what else we can pull out of our pirate hats ;) It's a week from today (Saturday, Sept. 21) so if you’re local, come on over! If you aren’t, come over anyways!
Something funny I realized today: in the original Shantae, everything is considerably lightened up, but Shantae's sprite especially is noticeably more pale.

I think it's mostly because the GBC had a pretty limited palette to work with, but yeah the concept art for Shantae was pretty pale, at least in comparison to Risky's Revenge where she probably looked the darkest. I think most people have played that one which is why they are attached to her darker look.
That suggestion is ten times better than what I originally put. I edited my post accordingly. Thank you.
Also you should trim your quotes, you don't need to quote the whole image.

In the first chapter in Half-Genie Hero, the citizens of Freshwater Town call in Shantae to defeat a dangerous gang of Mermaids. Starting at her lighthouse, Shantae travels to a level with a crumbling Greco-Roman theme.
Arriving at Freshwater Town, Shantae scares off the offending fish-folk, but learns that there’s more here than meets the eye. To learn the source of the Mermaid Clan’s agitation, Shantae travels over the ancient waterfall ruins, through some dank caverns, down a slippery slope and into the lair of the Giga Mermaid. What she finds there will be truly… unexpected.
If you think you've guessed the Dance Transformation that Shantae will learn during this chapter, please share your theories in the Comments Section -- we're all ears! Today we’re looking at some concept artwork for this wet & wild mermaid-themed chapter of Shantae: Half-Genie Hero!
Ah okay, didn't know she was a guardian. I'm assuming that this town is always getting attacked by pirates? They seem to come up whenever Shantae is the topic.

Okay, so 9 pages later, I'm finally built up the courage to ask:
Who is this Shantae person? I know nothing about the game and want to get into it. Swear me in, guys.
What little I do know: her hips look like they have never told a single lie, ever.
If you have a 3DS, you can download the original GBC game for $5 (worth it for the adorable pixel animation alone). If you don't have a 3DS, watch a few of these officially-endorsed "Let's play" videos. You will then proceed to buy a 3DS. http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL41D0DFF62BCAFA50
Always enjoyed the art style of this series. Wayforward's characters are really awesome and Jake K for music is always a great thing too. I went and contributed since I want to see this become a reality. I've been waiting for this to become an HD console game.

And she fights them by whipping them. With her hair.

I do have a 3DS. Thank you for telling me about the original version. Will look into that soon.
Happy Monday! We're right on the edge of 300K, which means we're 75% of the way to funding this project! Thank you everyone for making this happen!
Today we’ve got something special for you: a video featuring Armando Soto (Head of WF Animation department) and Jesse Lopez (Lead Animator on Shantae Half-Genie Hero).
-Armando has tons of industry experience that spans games, TV, and feature films. Armando has worked at Sony Pictures (Eight Crazy Nights, Dilbert), WayForward (Ducktales, Spongebob Movie) and was Senior Games Producer at Disney Interactive (Jelly Car, Pirates of the Caribbean, Toy Story Mania).
-Jesse is the animation lead for the Shantae project (not to be confused with Mariel Cartwright, the lead animator for the “character” Shantae). Before working at WayForward, Jesse interned at Walt Disney Feature Animation. There he learned from studio legends during production of Princess and the Frog. He most recently worked on Ducktales: Remastered as Supervising Animator and character designer.
That’s enough talk… let’s watch the team make movie magic! In the immortal words of Leon Schlesinger, “Roll the garbage!” (Translated: “click on the video”)
Shantae: Half-Genie Hero - Animation Interview
NOTE: for those wondering about the obscure Leon Schlesinger reference, he's the producer who started up Warner Bros Cartoons studio during the Golden Age of animation. After hearing "Roll the garbage!" one time too many, animators retaliated by creating a obnoxious caricature of Leon, called Daffy Duck.
MEGA-SIZE Team Reveal: Mega Man developer Inti Creates! WHAAAAAT?!
W-A-R-N-I-N-G-! Tie down your inner fanboy… We’re pleased to announce that Mega Man developer Inti Creates is working on Shantae: Half-Genie Hero! If you’re not familiar with Inti Creates, they’re the studio behind Mega Man 9 & 10, the Mega Man Zero Series on Game Boy Advance, and Mega Man ZX and ZX Advent....and now Mighty No. 9!
In September of 2011, mysterious Shantae fan art appeared in the gallery of Inti Creates employee Makoto Yabe (aka KOU). At KOU’s suggestion, Matt Bozon reached out to Inti Creates President and CEO Takuya Aizu to see if his studio would like to collaborate on Shantae. By the end of the year, Inti Creates was hired-on for Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse, and has since continued on with Shantae: Half-Genie Hero.
Inti Creates has developed key artwork, concepts, and character illustrations for the Shantae series; many of which you’ve already seen both here, and in our 3DS PAX demo. We are thrilled to finally reveal them as official members of the Half-Genie Hero team.
To celebrate, you'll see “Shantae & Beck” high-fiving over at the Mighty No. 9 Kickstarter page (illustration by Inti Creates & Comcept). And you’ll see a similar image on this page (at the top) by WayForward’s animation team. Amusingly, we did not collaborate on these images – yet much like our Kickstarter dates, they’re surprisingly similar! Seriously, compare them… its uncanny.
At this time we’d like to extend a very heart-felt thank you to Keiji Inafune and his team for their support! Mr. Inafune has been an inspiration to us for many years, and we’re extremely excited to see his project come to fruition. You can thank them as well by visiting Mighty No. 9’s Kickstarter page and making a pledge.
But before you go, keep scrolling! Below you’ll find jaw-dropping images of the Shantae Universe as seen through the eyes of Mega Man developer Inti Creates!
SEQUIN LAND ART MUSEUM: This gallery is located in the world of Shantae: Half-Genie Hero, and will open shortly after your quest begins. This is YOUR TIME TO SHINE!
When you first arrive, you’ll notice that the walls are completely bare. That’s odd. Shouldn’t there be beautiful works of art in a place like this? Shantae smells trouble, and her suspicions are soon confirmed by the Mayor. He explains that a sneaky bandit has made off with the priceless artwork, leaving nothing but empty frames! Oh dear!
In this purely optional “side-quest”, players can scour Sequin Land in search of the missing canvases and return them to the gallery for full screen viewing. They could be anywhere -- dropped by a monster, hiding in the wall like a Castlevanian Pork Rib, or down some frightening rabbit hole. Return every lost piece of artwork and Shantae will earn a Super Rare Ability (similar to the Firefly Shrine in the original Shantae for Game Boy Color game)!
How do YOU fit into all this? Pledge at the “YOUR ART IN GAME” reward tier, and your artwork will become sought after treasures in the game, collected and displayed on the Art Museum wall! We are making this quest intentionally wacky so that whatever fan art is generated will feel true to the game. Expect some tongue-in-cheek, self-referential humor that the series is made famous for. Put YOUR ART in the spotlight of what is sure to be a fun-filled (and amusingly off-beat) *optional* mission.
The rules are simple:
-Your image should be rectangular, in either portrait or landscape at roughly 4:3 or 16:9 ratios. It can be a digital painting, or a digital photo of physical artwork.
-The image should be Shantae related fan art. We can’t feature any popular characters from other brands (sorry Fiona & Cake).
-You are welcome to use any existing Shantae fan art that you’ve already made yourself.
-We want this to be fun for everyone, so we ask that you respect others by avoiding controversial/distasteful content. We'll work with you.
If you'd like additional information, please contact ask us via the “Messages” tab. We can’t wait to see what you come up with! Let’s make the Sequin Land Art Museum spectacular!

BECK FAN ART! We don’t just collect fan art, we also make our own! Here’s what we think Shantae would look like sporting Beck’s armor from Mighty No. 9, made just for you Beckers! Isn’t she adorable? No, this is not one of our unlockable costumes, but we think it’s awfully cute.
---
GIRL GAMER FAN ART! If you’re looking for inspiration, look no further than this beautiful fan art from the Editor-In-Chief of GirlGamer.com, Heidi “H.B.” Duran! Again, these are not stretch goal costumes, but they certainly look worthy! Thanks Heidi!
---
KOU FAN ART! It gets better! Kou from Inti Creates has created this insanely cool fan art for Mighty Switch Force! We’re officially freaking out. Feast your eyes on this drool-worthy rendition of Patricia Wagon and the Hooligan Sisters!
Thanks to everyone who's supporting this project with their time and funding!!Keep the great artwork coming! We're rapidly approaching our funding goal of$400K... let's smash through it and start hitting those Stretch Goals!
And on a personal note, HA beat @Zeriam. Personal note 2, gum Hooligan Sister is best Hooligan Sister. The anklecuff is too big but she don't give a damn, she's fine just chilling there.
