According to the Playstation Blog, Skullgirls Encore (PS3) will be absolutely free for all PS+ members during the month of May. Lab Zero isn't at liberty to discuss the circumstances of the deal, but it's safe to say they regard it as a good thing.[prbreak]Read more...[/prbreak]

I've always wondered how exactly profits and free games work out on ps+
regardless, since they agreed to it, it must be for the better, so I hope we get at least a small wave of new fans.

When I was choosing which system to buy (for Blazblue CT, oh well live and learn) the SINGLE THING that tipped my hand toward PS3 was the fact that XBox charged for online and PS3 didn't.
Whatever money you initially save on the 360 you will end up spending for that online many times over.

You definitely get what you pay for when you buy Xbox.
And then you pay for it some more, again and again.

I wish Sony hadn't made the move to, "PS+ required for online play," with PS4. Granted, they still give you a bunch of free PS4 games with PS+, so I would've gotten it anyway, but still...
 
PS4 PS+ is also cheaper than XBL.

This isn't console wars, I was just providing an anecdote. I still don't have PS+ myself, full disclosure.
 
Yay! This is always good as it means new people on the boat. Which means I'll have to tone down my online play.
 
Well, there's the fact that the game gets a bunch of attention (and after May, purchases), and I dunno if Sony's giving them some "thanks for allowing us to give your game for free" money, but either way this is awesome.
 
I think is a good thing. Yes... a lot of people will get the game for free and test hin. After that, some still play, some go out. But the ones who play now will bought the DLCs (Squigly?) and the next ones, and help to tell to the world about the Skullgirls...
 
Well alright! I dont own a Ps3 or 4 but this looks pretty neat for those who do.
 
Awww, and I was pretty happy to see this post... buuut it seems it's US only... Europe doesn't get it :<
 
EU PS + usually have the same things that the U.S. PS + but at different times, so maybe it will come to Europe for free too
 
Lol, yep. The subscription to xbox-live alone trumps the cost of the PS3 in the long run. Good thing this game is on PC as well, eh? :)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I was always under the impression that free PS+ games remained in your inventory until your membership lapses. That's at least what my friends who use the service told me.

That IS true for most games offered on PS+ but I'm assuming it's different for the offered monthly games. I wouldn't know, haven't had PS+ in forever.
 
Anything you download (rather purchase so it's in your DL history) from the Instant Game Collection (the monthly free games) is yours as long as you are subscribed to PS+.

And if it does expire and renew, they'll be there waiting for you.
 
So in other words, all Autumn Games/Lab Zero is getting out of this is any potential stipend Sony would pay them for putting the game on PS+.

Well, I hope that's a pretty big paycheck, because otherwise, they just got screwed out of several potential paying customers.

Not exactly. It can still generate interest from word of mouth, people who don't feel like getting PS+ might notice Skullgirls being one of the games and say "Hey, if they offer it on PS+, it must be good!", and even without that the game is still getting more players, which is never a bad thing.

Oh, I agree that it's not a bad thing to get more players, but it sounds like Lab Zero's biggest problems stem from financial issues due to some weird legal limbo with their current publisher, who is apparently completely out of money from what little I've been able to gleam about this whole situation. Not so much that the FGC is ignoring the game.
 
Awesome news! I can finally get my stingy friend to download SGE! Not stingy enough for ps plus though, it seems. He needs to get his priorities straight.
 
I don't see it as being available for free yet. Is this going to happen later in the month?

yup. free games are released on Tuesdays (in the US). So it'll come out on one of the Tuesdays in May.
 
The PSN store updates on Tuesdays, usually in the afternoon here on the east coast of Burgerstan. Check then, or on the following day.
 
I'm not positive, but I believe this is hitting on 5/13.
 
Can't wait to get online tomorrow night. Great way to try out my B-team characters against new players.
 
I hope to not see a lot of messages like "OMG WHY I HAVE TO PAID FOR SQUIGLY, LAB ZERO WANTS CASH".
