@KhaosMuffins If you want help commentating I'd be more than happy to help out.

*edit* Also since the idea of this is to show off lesser known players wouldn't Waseda style make more sense? It wouldn't be much fun for people on team A if one of the first players manages to take out the remaining players on the other team without a chance to play. Granted it will take ALOT longer that way. We'll see what the people want.


@Action Hank (2) would be a good fit for this. He is a pretty good PW/Double player that I haven't seen enough of.
Also where are all my MO players? Would any of you guys be interested in this?

I'd love to, but my pc is still busted and I'll be riding down to Texas that weekend for my sister's graduation and then UFGT happens. If we keep this going into June, I'll be down. I'd need something to do until I make another tournament at the end of the year.

Shoutouts to action hank and ninja nutria I think a lot of people would like what they see out of them.

PS pokemon style sucks. What's the point of a team battle if one guy could stonewall the other team? Just have that guy run a gauntlet.

That's exactly why I voted for it. I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking that way c:
 
I was worried about that with Pokemon style as well. Looks like more people prefer Waseda as well so it looks like we'll do that.

Also yeah @Mr Peck you and Woofly qualify since the Americans don't get to see you guys play much. But yeah, we have a lot of Brazilian and West Coast people who wanted to play so....

Sweetness. I'd also like to see @Mr Peck and Woofly! Hopefully we can set it up so they can participate.
 
I am definitely interested in playing, but Friday is iffy for me at the moment. I can let you know for sure if I can play by tomorrow or Tuesday. I'm midwest US

Is this something that is going to become a weekly thing? I've been interested in playing in something like this for awhile and I would love to play, but this week I'm in the finals vortex pretty hard, and will probably spend Friday night putting my desktop PC back together (which I'd prefer to play on versus my toaster laptop).
 
Where are the East Coast guys? We have good connections with them.
 
It's gonna be a one week thing, but, just like the kumites, anyone else is free to take this up and make it a weekly or biweekly thing. I just do events like this on a whim, hehe.

Oh, and right now we have 14 people so far for a 7v7. I'll cap the number at 24 for a 12v12.

I hate to be that guy, especially because you even offered to run it at a time when European players can play (on a weekday, no less!) but I think I might sit out of it. I finally read the first post properly and I understand the format, and I don't want to stay up really late just to play a bunch of 250+ ping matches against people with US-quality internet. I'd imagine that they wouldn't want to be forced to play against me either, for the same reason.

Thanks again for offering though, and I'll definitely watch the stream archives!

150+ is a very playable range if the connection is stable. The thing is, both players need to set a similar ggpo range from my testings, so 150+ on ggpo 3 for both parties makes for a playable experience. It's just a matter of adapting I think. SG netcode is a godsend compared to thinks like AE/marvel (urgh, damn, marvel netcode is insanely crappy) where even local connections are very far from what the actual game is.

Unfortunately, I already have plans, but in the event that I can do this, I will let you know more than early enough.

Man, I wish my weekends weren't always so full of other shit to do because I'd love to drop in on this and get bopped on stream for one match. There better be a twitch archive or youtube upload somewhere for me to steal tech from.
 
If the goal of these events is to get lesser known people competing on stream and it's due to recent criticism of Who Y'all Like, a thing to take into account in the future is that having separate nights for WYL and events like this may not be ideal in the long run. WYL has become a regular thing for the SG community to tune in to, kind of like our version of Monday Night Football or Friday Night Fights (or Monday Night Raw if you're into Rasslin'). If people are tired or seeing the same 10 people in rotation and the goal is to get new blood on stream that meets the "approval" of their peers, then a format change for WYL is in order.

By that I mean there should be a set of undercard fights of lesser known/unknown players and then have sets of matches with them along with a main even title (or two or three) at the end. Have these matches prepared a week in advance at the latest. After a few sets, players in those undercard bouts that have shown consistent wins and improvement should be granted a shot at more seasoned opponents. This would help make WYL far more interesting as a weekly hub for the Skullgirls community around the world to tune into and compete. Perhaps how these promotion fights can be organized is with a weekly poll by the community here on Skullheart or a ranbat format of some sort.

What we all get out of this is a larger pool of players and variety of play. In addition, players with hunger are given a shot to gain invaluable match up experience and get noticed and lastly it's a more entertaining program for the viewers. Most importantly, it makes WYL a more inclusive and organized event. What we all want is the Skullgirls community to not only feel like an organized and welcoming community but actually be one as well. This can happen with a format change as simple as that.

WYL can do whatever it wants seeing as we already have SNS and USS in the weekly lineup to get as many people some exposure as possible, and occasional events like this only help, in my opinion.

Trying to centralize down to one show just means less people get seen no matter what.
 
Who Y'all Like doesn't have to be the only game in town, however, because WYL has basically become the prime time channel for competitive Skullgirls matches, leaving things as is isn't a good answer. This new stream KhaosMuffins has proposed is a good idea but it doesn't address the problem with WYL that has led to its criticism which led to the creation of threads like this. I don't see how reorganizing the most frequently watched Skullgirls stream to have like a half dozen undercard fights of unknown/lesser known players along with a main event match or two of well known players would be something undesirable.

I mean, WYL can remain an incestuous mess of the same ten people in rotation where new players feel unwelcomed to join because of arbitrary rules OR something can be done to change the stream to invite and promote new fighters with the goal of having more player variety, ignite the fire for competition and make for an entertaining block.

Yep.

Just because Negus (who seemed to start the whole "gud players only pls") doesn't like seeing low and mid-level play doesn't mean that WYL should only be high level players every week. It's called Who "Y'all" Like, not Who "dA SG ILLUMINATI" Likes.

Then again, the convoluted point I'm making is probably different from Shin's.
 
I personally think this stream could be a good idea on its own (especially if regions are matched up so that connections aren't a big issue), WYL's tendency not to have lesser known players is a separate issue and, even if it does get changed, I think it'd be fine for a minority of lower-level players.

Unfortunately I don't suspect the viewers watch WYL in order to gamble on finding hidden gems in the community, whereas a stream like this is dedicated specifically to lesser known players punching it out so its viewers will get exactly what they come for.

Considering the quantity of players that'll be taking part each time in this even, though, I don't think weekly is a brilliant idea as - regardless of the percentage of the current playerbase willing to take part - the playerbase isn't exactly big to begin with (less-so the people that use this forum, and even fewer of whom will be willing to play on-stream) so I wouldn't doubt that participants would run dry fairly quickly. Fortnightly sounds far more applicable to me.

I'm going to have to agree with this.

WYL is it's own thing and whoever happens to take the time to run it each week (thanks guys! @all previous/future WYL hosts!) having total control of who/what get's played doesn't bother me a bit. @Negus Eyoel seems to be catching alot of flak for picking and choosing the matches he wanted for WYL. While I understand how that upset some people the thing is HE offered to run it. I know at the end of the day he wanted to put on what he thought would be the best show for the viewers. Does that make WYL an elitist playground? Not in my eyes. Plus it's not like it is always ran that way.

On the topic of seperate streams, having SNS and USS around is just adding more players and possible viewers to the fold. Sure, I'll admit most players on SNS and USS haven't been on regularly on WYL. But that still doesn't rule out that they might be in the future due to the exposure they can get on these or other streams. Things are fine at the moment as I see it.

Some people ran into time conflicts with what I have up right now. Would it bother anyone if I moved the time forward an hour? (So 7 PST, 8 MST, 9 CST, 10PM EST)
 
So how long will a Wichita style battle take with a team this size? I do have to be up a little earlier than I'd prefer for work the next morning so I don't know if I can commit to the amount of time this might take.
 
So I can play if the event is at 6:30 PST (I get off at 6:00).
