What I like the most about people who talk about Poison is that they often say the following:
"She’s 100% female. Capcom had to change her gender in America because they don’t wanted controversies about a man hitting women in a video game. Haven’t you heard noob?"
It’s like; they totally need to prove she is female, over wise they couldn’t play her. That’s so ridiculous it hurts. They basically say: "I can’t bang her so I won’t play her." I like to answer just with this:
"Why do you play Ryu then? Or any other male character? If sexual compatibility is all you’re thinking about".
And also, the statement is just not true. Poison was labeled a "Newhalf" in the japanese manual of the first Final Fight, so the gender was set from the get go. Capcom just likes to troll people about it, like having cosplayers doing Poison on stage in a promotional interview, half of the models male, the other half female. Capcom also doesn’t address this in clear way anymore because they know that most of the players are ignorant dumbasses who wouldn’t tolerate it und scream bullshit all over the internet. That’s my theory about it.
Hell, I even have this (very informative) video about Poison with the facts about her in it bookmarked, because the freakin topic comes up like all the time. I just drop the already mentioned sentence with the video link and leave. Stopped counting how much I did that already since Ultra was announced.
I totally don’t care about the gender of the character I’m playing, I really don’t. I admit, as a kid I don’t played video games with female lead characters or as ladies in fighting games because it was uncool. But I’m not 7 or 8 anymore, it doesn’t matter now.
I like Poison because she’s funny, has an interesting move set, and I confess: She looks hot. What’s in her pants, or was once, not important to me. I’m straight in real life but I don’t hate people for what they like to wear or their sexual interests. But I do like the idiotic comments the topic brings up on the internet and it shows me how ignorant some people really are.
I’m really happy that a person here on the Skullheart can say "I’m a trannie" and don’t get endless pages of hate for it. Really speaks for the community in a good way.
And Spellbound: You’re awesome!
