I've been playing Skullgirls with my local Austin meetup group and while I've definitely improved I've hit a bit of a brick wall and need more focused improvement.
For this exercise (ha) I'm using Filia and Squiggly. I like Filia's speed which plays a lot more to my natural strengths in other games and she "feels" good. While originally I was using Ms. Fortune I noticed I was playing her too much like Filia and thereby losing, so playing Squiggly forces me to switch gears entirely and think about her moves totally different. The results have been pretty good up until this point.
So now comes time for combo building. Current goals and progress:
Filia BnB: Currently attempting c.LK, MK, HP, j.LP, j.MP, j.MK (two hits), ADC, j.MP, j.HK. From here I should be able to do an OTG and continue the loop. I'm having REAL problems getting the "j.MP, j.MK (two hits), ADC, j.MP" section to reliably land. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. DEFINITELY doesn't seem to work against Valentine and Peacock but from what I've read elsewhere on this forum it should, so I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. Any suggestions for a better BnB build that works generically? I'm hoping once I find a generic that I can fall back on I can tweak per-character.
Squiggly BnB: Currently attempting c.LK, c.MK, HP(x2), Silver Chord, MP, HK, j.MK, j.HP. From right about here I should be able to start a loop or at least get close to it. I'm having a much easier time getting this working but the "HP(x2), Silver Chord" REALLY doesn't like to connect. I have no idea what I'm missing on the timing. Like with Filia, any better suggestions for a better generic BnB to start with for Squiggly?
Plans: once I get the generic BnBs working reliably I can test against opponents and see which defensive skills need to be buffed next (push block, counter grab, etc). After I've got an offense and a defense game reliably rolling I can tweak combos for damage output per character and see what else needs to be done (variable combos, zoning, etc).
I don't really know how these diary things work, but if anyone's got some suggestions I'd appreciate it. I've been watching video after video and reading post after post but I'm still having timing issues so I'm open to any suggestions, really.
