Tabletop Games Thread (And Roll20)

If you prefer having your RPGs in PDF form, there's a Humble Bundle-esque site out there for you called the Bundle of Holding. There are only ever two levels of content in each bundle and the starting price is much higher, but there are typically three or four bundles active at once, each with a large smattering of books. Sometimes, they do other things, too, like print-and-assemble papercraft models or terrain. They even link the books to a DriveThruRPG account (if the content's available on the site) for backup and redownload purposes in case their own site goes down.

Currently, there are two bundles compiling the entirety of the Champions 4th edition lineup (though one sourcebook has an incomplete PDF as of now; the scanners plan on updating the PDF and sending it to bundle buyers when they can get a complete copy), one bundle containing some books for the third edition of Heavy Gear (a game with a Battletech-esque setting), and one bundle containing the entirety of the Advanced Fighting Fantasy gameline (based on the Fighting Fantasy gamebooks). Previous bundles have included games and lines such as Traveller, both versions of the World of Darkness, Mutants & Masterminds, Shadowrun, Deadlands, Lamentations of the Flame Princess, Exalted, Paranoia, and many more. No D&D, though.

Yeah, I've linked that before, I've never bought one, I missed the Changeling 1E edition (Which sucks since I thought 2E was right around the corner, nope, delayed.)

Hoping they have a bundle for some other cool stuff really soon

@PaperBag_Sniper Sometime we should try a 1on1 one shot to test out Tokyo Nova sometime. I still have the book from last year and I liked what I read of it. I might consider gm'ing it, though I don't have an idea for a cyberpunk campaign in my head atm.

Also for more JTRPG's, some folks at 4chan translated a pretty neat looking game back in January (I was watching original thread, though I haven't followed the following translation threads of all the expansions).

I'm pretty much getting set for the possibility of a TTRPG with my best friends over the summer, just unsure what to play, I might be able to juggle it with an RPG on here but with my horrific cocktail of ADHD, Executive Dysfunction, and some other things, I'm not sure if I could handle that.
Though, I really wouldn't mind DMing some horror games, goddamn.

You seem to really want to do Call of Cthulhu, so why don't you play that with her?

Otherwise everyone recommends Dungeons and Dragons 5e to newcomers, so it probably can't hurt to go for that if you want something more straightforward.

I don't know whether its the speed of jrpg's, or the strength of our gm, but getting into the game on my side was very easy. Could barely remember the rules and was nervous, but I basically just showed up, roled and rolled, and it all went smoothly. Much less intimidating then it looked or sounded.

So probably don't sweat it. The main obstacle is finding 5 hours of free time that you and the whole group can share in.

I still have that one-shot o' mine
been workin' and refining it too, so it's probably not hot garbage

I don't know about anyone else, but the updated cover for Bestiary 6 looks pretty metal.

I have a friend who's interested in the medium, but I imagine he might be confused if he just jumped in. I would totally invite him if you hosted that.

I'd be down for it as well.

I don't know if CoC would be her cup of tea, and even then I might have to invest in Pulp Cthulhu, which is another $40

Just do 5E then and join Ruin's oneshot.

plz guys my wife and kids are starving i need to do this one-shot or gary gygax won't feed us :((((

Anyone got the curse of sthrad module? I'm thinking about Dming in the future and was wondering if I should do ravenloft.

I'd rather play D&D5E for the first time with my friend............ Preferably because I know she's played it before
If you're nervous playing a quickie like this could help, and Ruin's played it before.

Also, if she's familiar: you know what to play.

When would you be interested in hosting, Ruin? I think my friend would be hyped for it.

I'm free most evenings, sans wednesdays
work out a time for yourselves, and I can probably make it work!

I'm on east coast time, so that's something else to keep in mind as well

So me and my friend have been playing some simple 5e. Its been fun, though admittedly I don't have the patience for long game sessions (I hit my limit after about 2-3 hours). I was wondering if there were any other good games we could pick up that could supplement that shorter attention span?

Alright, I'll talk to him about it next week and see if we can arrange something.

I imagine it'd be best with at least a third player though. Hopefully someones game?

depends what would we be playing and do you take goofy characters?

I fucking welcome goofy characters with open arms
the campaign I run with my normal group is full-on horror-comedy

is it regular Dnd? cause if its horror my character will fit in well. what time do we play?

I wanna know this tooo

Make a thread on /tg/ maybe, they might know.

I get the impression it's more of a gm (and party) issue then a game/system issue.

I mean I can do it as a player i just need to know what time.

Session 5 is probably the most intense session we've all had.

Quick post boss fight summation

>Furious debate erupts between party on whether to kill an innocent little girl who may or may not be a danger to us all
>My character tries to shield her and ends up coming to blows with another party member
>After some grappling, she gets a good roll and knocks me down. I antagonize her and scream at her that she's an animal and better off living in the wastleand "with the rest of the abominations"
>She gets super pissed and turns her attention towards me and prepares to stab the shit out of me while I'm down. Meanwhile two other party members get the girl to safety
>After many failed rolls to resolve the situation, finally a party member neutral in the conflict comes down on my side and shooters her in the leg just as she's about to bring the swords down on me.

There was more to it, such as how I convinced the innocent to turn off the suicide bomb with
a hug
but yeah it was damn good the whole way through

Also @Ruin my friend has expressed interest in your one shot, and I now have time this week and weekend. Do you think you can run it within the next week or two?

So I'm gonna be doing two campaigns over the summer, one ran by my friend which will be D&D 5E, one ran by me which will be Call of Cthulhu (possibly Pulp)
But I think I still have a hunger to fit a third or fourth campaign in there if anyone wants to assimilate me

Also, found another cool TTRPG, this ones a lil' Strang(er) than some other Things out there.
I might've mentioned this one's Kickstarter a while ago, but hey it's out

Sounds good. He's in canada so we'll have to work out a good time between us. Do you have Steam or some place we can all talk at once (he doesn't have an account here).

I dunno what i'm gonna play for the other two though, god.
I was gonna have Baron Munchenseun be a downtime game between long sessions or a particularly heavy/sad session though

Only advice I might give on that subject is to not spread yourself too thin: Trying out different things can be tempting, but for the best possible experience you do kinda wanna commit to making a thoughtful character with an interesting, ongoing development that fits into your gm's plot, which requires some dedication. It's one of those things where you get what you put in.

Like IE I tend to spend some time writing up and brainstorming stuff in advance, which seems to work out because people tend to really like the sessions I'm in and look forward to when it's my turn to write something lengthy (memory fragments).

That being said, improvisation is the heart of it all and where the most intense moments are born, so don't sweat it either.

Oh yeah @Ruin nevermind Steam, just figured out Discord group dm's. Send me a friend invite at Squire Grooktook#4438 if you still have you're account, and the 3 of us can plan.
