A general thread for the tales series by Namco Bandai
I got into this series through Tales of graces and have been trying to find the other ones ever since. Who else is excited for Tales of Symphonia hd collection and Tales of Xillia 2 next year?
 
The only Tales game I've ever played was Tales of Symphonia. As a kid I enjoyed it and was talking to my friends about it recently. I was thinking of playing multiplayer with them, but I wasn't sure if I should rebuy Tales of Symphonia (which is a bit difficult to find or is just really expensive because it's a very loved game) or if I should just get Tales of Xillia. We only have a Wii and PS3. So do you guys have any suggestions on which Tales game to play?

Tales of Symphonia HD will be released on October the 10th in Japan and somewhere in 2014 everywhere else. It will have dual audio for the voices but i am not entirely sure whether that applies to both the Japanese version and the localized version. Tales of Xillia 2 doesn't have a clear release date but will probably be released some point after Symphonia HD.
 
As a recommendation for Lean there is also Tales of Graces f on the ps3 which is also on the wii but that is the vanilla version and has multiple bugs which made the game unplayable in certain cases. The only other tales game on the ps3 is Tales of Vesperia but that version is not translated, there is an xbox 360 version translated but you mentioned you only have a ps3 and a wii.
 
If you guys ever get a 3DS, I'd recommend getting "Tales of The Abyss 3D."

It's better than the PS2 version mainly cause it has faster loading times.
 
Symphonia is one of my all time favorites, and I love Abyss. Haven't played any of the current gen games unfortunately.
 
With Tales of Xillia 4 characters in the english localisation are also some of the Skullgirls cast, Kaiji Tang who voices one of the egrets voices Wingul on the villians. Lauren Landa the voice of Squigly voices Leia, one of the main characters. Liam o' Brien the voice of leviathan voices Giland another villian and Erin Fitzgerald the voice of Parasoul voices Teepo who is Elize's doll. Which is cool trivia.

i played tales of symphonia and tales of vesperia both where really good games. also i loved the multiplayer in them and it's cool to be able to play it with friends, also cause of the AI in vesperia it felt kind of necessary to do that X.X
 
I tried playing multiplayer for Tales of Xillia and I thought that I had screwed over my game when after we stopped playing multiplayer it had still registered the second player, thankfully i managed to work out the problem by working out that you needed to change the character back to its auto setting as having a second player sets it to manual. Hopefully that isn't a problem in other tales games.

There always the sequel to symphonia ToS Dawn of the New World it doesn't live up to the first but it is still a good tales game overall and this may make or break the game for you but there is no overworld to travel in :/ and everyone's voice gets replaced for the most part

Hooray the tales thread has been resuscitated. I have been doing Solo Unknown run in Tales of Xillia with Alvin. I have gotten up Jiao and thought it was unfair when i was level 33. Unfortunately Jiao proved me wrong and I only managed to scrape a victory after ten tries.
