I haven't played so much to SF games except the supra-famous one on SNES so I sadly can't answer to this question, so I ask you! Especially because different episodes are still played today, aside from SSIV. So which one is your most favourite?

Moved to the gaming section.

Naturally there's no best answer, but I'm willing to bet that the consensus will probably fall on 3S. I have a lot of respect for the game and it's players, but I must admit to preferring SFIV myself.

Hyper Street Fighter II. I'll show you the power of CE Dicator, Ryu, Guile, Sagat or HF Blanka!

CE Dictator is a completely fair character.

But seriously, I really do enjoy playing SF2 with friends (be it HDR Classic Mode or HSF2), because of the super fast pace, barebone mechanics so people can just pick up and play and dizzy combos don't last for like 20 seconds.

The best versions generally speaking:

Hyper sf2 (HF or HSF2)
Super streetfighter 2 turbo (ST)
Alpha 2 (A2)
Alpha 3 (A3)
Capcom versus snk 2 (CVS2)
3rd strike (3s)

Are the main ones.

As far as sf4 is concerned, super was hailed and mocked both because of its supposed balance and because of its boringness, also Cammys dominance would take awhile to figure out cause chen was constantly complaining that she was trash when she was one of the best characters in the game.

Alpha 2 and 3 are "plagued" by custom combos which is either a good or a bad thing depending on who you are talking to. Cvs2 is very defensive cause of easy to tech throws and hard ways to open plus being a 3 on 3 fighter in general and having matches take ages.

Hyper is ruled by ryu, his fireballs are completely ridiculous in that game, though he is definitely beatable.
St is ruled by Vega's vortex and sagats fireballs.

3s REQUIRES the hardest execution of all the games save for maybe cvs2 and has parry which is a good or bad thing depending on who you talk to, and the game is either trash or the best frikkin game in the world and to have ever existed depending on what school of thought you come from.

Cvs2 at a high level requires roll cancel which is a very high execution technique... It also requires the ability to not go to sleep while watching two pros play each other... Cause it's going to be a long game if both are defensive minded.

my favorites SSF4 AE. With ST close behind.

Gameplay and character wise, SF3 (Q, Alex and Dudley are just too awesome!)
Style-wise, i always loved how SF alpha 3 looks. The young and anime-ish design of ryu and ken are the best, no question

By the way, i HATE how every single character was put on steroids up in SF4, hell, even e. honda have a six-pack now!

And it contaminated other games... KoF 12/13 new designs for ralf, clark and the proportions on terry are equally "muscled-up", and ugly IMO.
Now it's coming to the new Guilty gear... *sigh*

Not SF4. ST, 3s or Alpha 2 most likely.

I just really couldn't get into Street Fighter III. First off, the cast of returning characters... we only had Ryu and Ken in New Generation, with Akuma making it to Second Impact and finally we get Chun-Li in Third Strike. That's right! No Blanka or Fei Long, two of my mains in Street Fighter IV. Therefore, I usually choose Ken and even then I don't like playing him much. When we had the Street Fighter Anniversary Collection for the Xbox, I always preferred Hyper Street Fighter II over Street Fighter III. Let's not even get started on these two dudes wearing a "thong".

As for Street Fighter Alpha, well it was probably one of my first exposures to the wonderful Darkstalkers sprite style. Too bad I wasn't too fond of it either. I mostly played Street Fighter Alpha 2, and almost never the arcade version of 3, even though an arcade (out of the very very few that I can find where I live) that used to be located at a mall had 3. Love that character select screen music in 1 & 2. My favorite character to play in Alpha 2 was Charlie.

Street Fighter IV... oh boy Street Fighter IV... haven't played Street Fighter EX but welcome to the realm of 3D graphics! I just find them goofy for the most part. Zangief was really annoying to deal with, but at the same time the cartoony SPD move makes me laugh. Hate to say it but I slightly prefer it over Street Fighter III. Seth doesn't take me as many tries to beat.

So yeah, my favorite Street Fighter games have to be WW, S, HSF2, Alpha 2.

3s looks fun but I enjoy sf4 the most, the later versions. ST looks interesting but the only sf2 I have had any time with was champion edition. And now to wait for all the sf4 hate...well it already started.

I can't get into SF4 despite being that universal fighting game that everybody plays or whatever people say, because it just feels too sluggish and Ultra Combos are just a hard pill to swallow.

I used to play Alpha 2 and 3 against the CPU when I had mine PS1. Has been a long time since I played, but I sometimes watch GGPO matches.

3s is the reason I became seriously interested in FGs and it's not because of the Daigo Parry video. I just really love the artstyle and it introduced characters like Dudley, Ibuki, Makoto, Elena, Alex & Hugo. I haven't played 3sOE in a while and I'm probably a fraud at this game.

I used to not care about ST, but some of my friends have an arcade cabinet of it. The game has grown on me and I play as Claw, O.Sagat or Fei.

I tried out CvS2 a bit on a Dreamcast emulator. It was fun and I like watching matches of the game.

I used to like SF4 and I was one of the few people who liked SFxT. I don't like SFxT anymore and for some reason SF4 makes me rage the most of all fighting games. I like Juri, C.Viper and the fact that they brought back a lot of Alpha/3s characters I like, but I'm not sure about Ultra SF4. I'll probably pirate the PC version or buy a used copy on PS3 as a "Fuck you" to Capcom or just ignore it.

Does anyone know why Super Turbo is preferred over Hyper Fighting in tournaments, even though some said that HF is one of the most balanced SF ever (don't quote me on that)?

I've only played Street Fighter, Street Fighter II and Alpha 3. Alpha 3 was the one I enjoyed the most, and I was looking forward to play SF4 someday.

But seems like I should check Third Strike first...

Because ST was the last SF2 version. People generally migrate to the newer game, even when it's worse.

ST>3S>A2>SF4>>>>>>A3

3S and A2 are my favorites.

A3 is awful.

STREET FIGHTER EX series is best.
Then third strike
Then IV...I guess...
