I don't really know what to put here, but I figure making a thread here would help me better document my progress, helping me see if I'm improving or not.
Skullgirls is my first actual foray into the fighting game genre. I picked up the game during the Summer Steam Sale on a whim after a friend of mine (who's way more into fighting games than I) offhandedly recommended it as being a good jumping in point. So, me and a few friends all picked the game up. A few of them have really picked the game up and can kick my ass pretty reliably (They've both also pretty decent experience in the genre-- not that I'm making excuses.) while others sort of muck about and haven't really done the tutorials. I'm now nearing in on 75 hours and two months total time into Skullgirls, and while I can sort of look back at how I played back then and see marked improvement (wow, I even block and everything now!), I feel like I still have trouble grasping a lot of the fundamentals of the game. As of this OP I've been playing Parasoul for the majority of my game time, with having spend some small forays into spamming junk as Peacock and Fukua, and a few halfhearted attempts to learn Big Band.
So, I guess I'm looking for advice. Up until this point I've felt like if I butt my head against the game it will just seep into my brain, but I think I've sort of hit the limit of that working. I want to do a few rounds with someone who can tell me what I'm doing wrong and hopefully I can correct whatever bad habits I've been accruing since I picked the game up. In short, this is the "What I can sort of do/What I'm clueless about" rundown:
Can Do:
1) I can do a basic combo with Parasoul, and have been trying to work on a few more basic BnBs that I've picked up by lurking Skullheart.
2) I have some mild understanding of how defense works, I can pushblock and think I can see where there's an opening I can exploit.
Can't Do:
1) I don't know how to exploit those openings. I should be opening with faster moves and that's mostly something I need to fix myself, as otherwise those opportunities go to waste.
2) I lack a lot of general matchup knowledge, or knowledge on how to be more aggressive. I find myself often just spamming tears and hoping that when my opponent inevitably closes I can defend until they leave themselves open.
3) I want to start building a team around Parasoul as my point. But I don't think I've mastered enough of this single character yet to understand how to best compliment her. Who would go well for Parasoul? Should I even worry about making a team yet?
4) I choke a lot in game, and I should learn some lengthier combos/resets/burst baits with Parasoul before I actually do #3 now that I think about it.
