THE GUNDAM THREAD

Yeah, he's cool. I just think that they could have shown Greco getting beat bad with less...insult to Greco. Like, its shown he knows what he's doing and how to adapt, and he's got a ton of spirit, smashing the Valkyrie into the Astray and trying to ram, armless, the Astray into a wall. I feel they should have at least made Greco deal some damage, because otherwise it looks BS and doesn't make me think of Nils as a badass cause he's tough, but badass because the plot demands it.

yeah, Nils was the character I liked the least in the early bits. he gets more likeable during the latter half though.
especially in his fight against Sei and Reiji.

Good to know.

Also, c-can someone answer the edit to my early post? There was that international SD gundam kit trailer with the RX and Aile Strike...Do tose have a release date or anything? Also thinking of picking up a Zaku II...I love me some classic Zaku. Or maybe a Z'Gok or Rick Dom...

I love the grunt mobile suit designs. Especially early gundam. It kinda saddens me a lot of more modern gundam series tend to either rehash the Zaku or go for that same kinda inhuman theming. I mean, there are a lot of kickass grunt mobile suits, but there isn't a ton of variety aside from Gundam 00 and Turn A to the whole "Cyclops with a lot of sharp edges and lots of dark green/brown color scheme."

For me, the best grunt suits will always be the Leos.
They've got the perfect blend of unique and classic design in them and still are distinguishable.
Its a shame that in-anime they're the super jobbers...

EDIT: Also, does anyone know where I can get those international SD gundam kit things they're releasing to try to recapture some interest in the model kits? The RX really interests me cause that's the gundam I main in Full Burst. Thinking of maybe picking up a Zaku II at some point as well, cause I love me some Zaku. :D

I've also never done model kits before so 100% guaranteed to turn out disastrously.

SD's are something you're not going to be able to waltz into your local Barnes & Noble and find. Your best bet (unless you have a good hobby shop that carries gunpla) is the internet to be honest. That said, there are alot of really cool SD kits out, so you'll have quite a few to choose from. As for the lack of model experience, these things are pretty forgiving in that respect. They all snap together (no glues or screws) and most look good right out of the box. High Grade (HG) models are a good starting place and are fairly inexpensive ($10~20 or so on like amazon). My suggestion for a model, since you like Ral so much, is the Gouf R35. That's the version he uses in Build Fighters.

Thanks! There's that vid with the RX and Aile Strike SDs. I might look into those online later, but my local hobby shops don't carry Gunpla, stopped a number of years back when the only cool one local to me went out of business.

The Gouf R35 is badass, I will admit. Might just pick it up. I mean come on though, Ral is amazing. He's probably one of my more favorite Gundam characters just because of the charm he has. Yeah its played for laughs in Build Fighters compared to the original series, but I think it's done well and he just clicks so well XD

amiami and hobbysearch tho

Go read The Origin if you haven't. He actually gets better if you can believe this.

They're good if you're ordering bulk (or want dem campaign parts mang), but for a single model, Amazon's more than fine.

I've heard a lot about Origin. Haven't gotten around to watching it yet.

Also, I find it funny that the Extreme Gundam is referenced as often as it is in stuff like Build Fighters (and by that I mean mentioned in the first place) while as far as I can tell, the Musha Gundam I and II as well as the Knight gundam aren't referenced nearly as often, though they seem to have existing kits.

yeah, my build fighters custom would probably be a combo of Musha Gundam MK 1 and the Stargazer.
and yes, I know there's no HG for Musha.
shut up.
this is my fantasy gunpla in a gunpla fantasy world.
I can do what I want.
and if I wanna make my Bujin Musha gundam then I will make my Bujin Musha gundam!

...btw...how the hell would the Turn X work in Build Fighters? I haven't finished Build Fighters, but the Turn X splits into a ton of parts to attack, and from what I've seen, no fighter so far has been able to use a part that's split from them without a secondary pilot.

A Crossbone Turn A custom sounds so cool to me. It sounds like it would look ugly and gaudy but idc, I want to fight with my MUSTACHIO'ED PIRATE GIANT ROBOT OF DEATH!

I think it gets a cameo but no main characters have it.

the Turn A is around for one episode in TRY though.

Turn X would work in the same way as a suit using funnels, since those do not require a second pilot. The same logic also (albeit barely) applies to the g-bits from X as well.

Well cause there was one episode with a guy with a Gold XX and he had what appeared to be two other guys at his side who I assumed were piloting the Gunbits. ut that's good to know

it's similar to Sei and Reiji sort of being pilot and a sort of navigator position.

So I just finished Build Fighters, and I have to say its really great. Also yah, I went from hating Nils to him being one of my favorite characters just with how stupid some of the scenarios they put him in got.

Also now that I got mah next paycheck, time to order me one of these kits...And some Hobby Nippers I guess. God my local hobby shops suck. Probably gonna get that Gouf and the Turn A, which is also super cheap atm.

what you want for a starting tool kit is the Tamiya tool kit set.
hopefully your local hobby store has that since it's such an all around good tool kit for most figurine kits.

also, the R35 Gouf is a fantastic kit. a great first time one too.
also, Ricardo Felini's Wing Gundam Fenice is also a good beginner kit.
but if you really want to make it look good, I do suggest you get panel lining markers.
which I don't think your local hobby shop would have.

I'll have to check after classes for that. My "local" hobby store is a large Hobby Lobby a whole town away. Not sure if they would have that, but I'd assume so since I know they carry general figurine kits, but nothing Gundam level.

no, Hobby Lobby doesn't have gunpla.

check your local Barnes&Noble since they've been distributing them.
the choices are more limited but they still carry a couple of the HG and MG.
start with HG though.
also, I'm sorry, I don't know if Hobby Lobby carries the Tamiya basic tool kit set.
I can't find it on their online store.

Well thanks for trying. I already checked the store out the other day. They have the tool kit set, but I didn't realize at the time that it was the sort of thing you'd use for Gunpla as well.

Barnes and Noble carry Gunpla? I'll have to check that out. I go there all the time, never really looked around it too much. Thanks for all the suggestions :D

I've been looking around my 'local' hobby stores for awhile now. Not just for Gunpla stuff, but because one of the parts of this awesome Noel figurine I got was busted, so I've been looking around for the special glue to fix it. It was a simple fix and it's back to looking awesome, so I'm already familiar with what a lot of my 'local' hobby stores carry.

btw, just so you don't accidentally buy the wrong thing, it looks like this

Thnx, now I know what to look for :D

ok so Gundam Battle Operation Next on the ps3/4 is actually pretty cool. The beta was a complete mess but it seems the fixed alot of the problems and controls. So far the only complaint I have is there's only 1 map for it so far and the hit detection definitely needs some improvement.

Gundam Battle Operation Next? I think I got Battle Operations with my Full Burst game...what kinda game is it?

just gonna say, I am not a fan of him saying the project his old work team is doing now is crap.
I mean, it IS being well received.

also, like, kinda alienates the American audience who got introduced to Gundam through Wing and G.

what is his old team working on now? I didn't read the whole thing
they're working on the Gundam the Origin movies.
y'know, the box office smash hits in Japan.

well, people are already saying the whole "500 years after" thing doesn't make sense.

mainly because of ending stuff in turn A.

also, this means Tomino says ZZ and Victory are better than G Gundam.
think about that.

b-but...I think ZZ is better than G...Or...at least Zeta was still really good. Totally not blinded by nostalgia. Totally. Need to rewatch ZZ and G at some point. Been a long ass time since I saw either.

Of course they are better than G

it was a parody that now just makes me cringe
BUT LOOK! THE EAST IS BURNING RED!

wow damn Tomino
UCisloveUCislife
only Tomino UC.

meaning Unicorn, 8th MS team, and Stardust Memory are all crap. :>
