Howdy, thought I'd create a thread for this game! I almost play it as much as Skullgirls.
I'm welcoming discussion of anything related to the game from lore and art to combos and tech.
I myself will be focusing on the latter! And hopefully find some new opponents in the process!

I'll be consulting a moderator ASAP to see if any of that breaks the rules for this section, which don't seem to exist yet..?

That being said...

What are some good online resources for this game? I picked this up since I've never played a KoF game before but I have no clue what I'm doing.

These will explain KoF basics.

Juicebox FGC has some good playlists on mechanics and character basics, XIII specifically!

And the SRK Wiki and DC should help out too!

I love watching KOF matches but I have to say, the game does come a little hard to learn. Well, at least for me. I liked Maximum Impact the best, which ironically, is what some people call the easiest KOF to learn? I don't know how true that is, though.

And yep, Terry Bogard was my one true love - I mean main, muhfuggah, my one true MAIN.

Dont worry.

You'll be considered weird if you DIDN'T love Terry Bogard.

Personally I find KOF to be in the middle ground in difficulty.

I say this because it's execution barrier isnt really high with a few exceptions, very few characters are gimmicky gameplay wise, and there's no assists to worry about.

But since you get 4 types of jumps, numerous defensive options, and how every character's every normal is more important than a character's best special or whatever ( since you have 4 different jumps it makes every normal good for different situations ), it makes KOF's neutral game vastly different than most other fights.

It seems alot take in, and it honestly kinda is but not to the point where it makes it unapprochable to newcomers, if you dedicate time into the game, and play with someone with experience ( preferably someone considerable better than you ) you'd pick up on it and become average if not above average

Four types of jumps?? I'm overwhelmed just thinking about the possibilities that entail. lol I think KOF is not for the faint of heart if you play with someone way better than you and only end up being average.

I'll be glad to help. KoF XIII is much easier to pick up compared to all the other KoFs.

Thank you very much, but I don't think KOF is my competitive cup of tea. I'm very very casual with that game and totally happy with that. lol

Ok thats cool

My computer's to ass to play any of them...

So I just play it on 360 and get bodied by the hispanic KOF players.

How did that stereotype even started?

Mexico was always too poor to afford Street Fighter machines.

Are you serious?
Yes. When SF2 was hot shit, the machines were expensive and only played SF2, and sold very quickly. Conversely, SNK had machines that could play several different games, and at a cheaper price. This was the major deciding factor for Mexican arcade operators.

Wow...

Well I dont mind it. Since overall I like the KOF series WAYYY more than the SF series.

What's your computer specs?
98UM and 02UM only need a Dual Core CPU, 1GB of Ram, and 256MB GFX card at minimum
As for XIII? You're out of luck.

both of my computers can play KOF13 in every spec.... except dedicated video ram....

Is "out of commission" a good spec?

So yeah KOF has really awesome cast of characters

I like May Lee.
because she feels the best out of all the stance characters I've played.
thought I was gonna say her Kamen Rider shit?
well, I like to disappoint in both regards so yes, that too.

I also love Heavy D and Terry.

Leona da best girl

Billy Kane is awesome

Yamazaki is fucking cool as fuck.

Wolfgang Krauser is really damn cool.

Almost every single KOF character is fucking cool.

BRING BACK THE AMERICAN SPORTS TEAM FOR KOFXIV!

Bao is dumb.

And so are the dummies from the maximum impact games.
