I've been playing Skullgirls for about 10 months now, and even though I do get slightly better each week, I still feel like I've hit a wall in terms of growth. I've been lurking all this time because I'm pretty shy, but I think it's high time I get active on Skullheart and seek help. I'm somewhat decent, but I recognize that I have problems in terms of consistency, defending, and the variety of resets I can actually pull off. I run Fortune/Fukua/Squigly, but I have absolutely no team synergy. I use the assists to hopefully get a random hit in or use as headless pressure, but I'm looking for more effective methods of using them, for combo extension and reset potential, for instance. I used to run Fortune/Parasoul, but I completely neglected her, and might use her in the future. Double is a character I'm highly interested in, but I'm not sure when is the best time to learn her since I want more consistency with my current team.
I'm still trying to figure out a way to optimize my BnB with Fortune with my current assists. I run L. Shadow and C.HP. I recently toyed around with the H. Shadow assist and have been noticing that it catches my opponents more often than L. Shadow, which is great. I'm trying to incorporate H.Shadow for Fortune resets, but am still experimenting to see what works. I run H.Fiber as a pressure tool for zoning when I have Fukua, and it's helped create distance for Squigly to build up charges, if only briefly. Fortune is my strongest character, though I can hold my own when she's gone.
Consistency is my greatest flaw. When I manage to get a random hit confirm in, I sometimes get surprised and fail to follow up on it, even though the opponent is RIGHT where I want them to begin a combo. I need to pay more attention in the neutral game and be prepared to continue to combo. More often than not, this leads to me dropping a combo and getting reset to death. TTwTT I have been getting better at this with Fortune, but I definitely need more practice with my other teammates.
As for resets, I only know a few. Even worse, I have a habit of using the same resets about twice in a row, and smart opponents see through this and punish me for it. Whenever I intentionally try to do different resets during a combo (crossover, then air grab reset, for instance), I sometimes stumble the inputs, overthinking what resets I should attempt, and end up dropping the combo altogether. Worse, I sometimes get outjabbed and combo'd into oblivion. I HAVE to nail my resets each time. In terms of Fortune resets, I know cross-overs, cross-unders, and air grab resets. I need to work on my headless reset game. I used to be somewhat decent with headless fortune and completely useless with head-on Fortune, but the tables seem to have turned. I definitely need headless practice, including mastering combos to remove the head so I don't have to rely on a heavy knockdown or something. For Fukua, I only know 1 overhead/grab reset. Yikes. As for Squigly, I know a grab reset, a low, and a high. They all are from the same point in the combo, so a smart opponent always double jumps or techs out if it. I need to seek more videos on Fukua/ Squigly reset tech to mix things up.
Goals:
1.) Follow up on Hit Confirms 100%. Seems simple enough, right? TwT
2.) Learn Burst Baits. Need to learn how to trigger them when I want to and who they work against. I still cannot do this. I can trigger IPS, but I can't seem to be able to use the right move in order for me to get up to the opponent and punish them.
3.) Learn to PBGC. Honestly, I can't do this whenever I want to. I have to learn when the precise timing works and the best moves to do so. I've seen the Youtube video of it, but I must apply myself. I have to also learn the best moves (or jump) to PBGC into to optimize my chances of escaping and turning the match around.
4.) Master resets. I need to learn more resets and seamlessly incorporate them into combos by alternating between them randomly. I have identified certain spots to reset with Fortune, but I have NO idea on the areas for opportunity for Fukua, Squigly, or Parasoul. I just memorized 1 spot and...that's it.
5.) Actually learn BnBs. I know BnBs for Fortune but...as for Fukua and Squigly? Heh....I kinda guess. TwT I just go with the flow of the battle. No more of this in the future.
6.) Spend more time in Training Mode. I NEED to get rid of the temptation to lurk in lobbies/ quick matches all the time. Training mode is crucial, but I get so excited to try out what I learn that I recklessly go online to learn something I only got down 3 times, and get disappointed. I must ameliorate this.
7.) Block better. Sometimes I can smell a cross-under from a mile away, especially from Double, but I still get bopped by overheads at times.
There's a LOT for me to learn, but I know I can definitely do this! ^w^
