Destroy this. Kill it with PK Fire.

Forgive me since I can't test this at the moment, but why exactly can't the other character just move away between the attacks or during the start up?

Seems like it just stuns for a ridiculous amount of time.
Anyways, let's talk about how finished and balanced Ryu is.

Because hitstun lol.

Ryu seems like an experiment to me honestly.

Yeah, like SFIV, his Focus Attack leaves the opponent in a crumple state so you can follow up with whatever.

He geniunely looks like he was unfinished and they needed something else to reveal at E3.
All of his animations are all over the place and odd-looking, and he seems like he hasn't been tested/balanced enough.

I believe Charizard and Dong must have a longer crumple animation than the rest? The description only states it works on those two.

And why the hell does he need to be facing backwards?

Well yes of course, bu that begs the question as to why Ryu's most useful hitbox is on his ass...

Because back dash has the least recovery from the focus attack cancel into focus attack again...I think...and then the focus attack hits barely behind him (like, you HAVE to grinding up against them), so that hits first. Trying this out, its really easy to do XD

Ryu's a ton of fun, but he's so broke its not funny. Never thought I'd see a game where Ryu was actually a viable, high tier character...

I purchased Ryu last night and did a quick little "Teehee new character! Whee!" run with him so I didn't go into those details. I will most certainly try this out though. It makes me nervous as a Charizard main though... But that's alright because I'll likely just be mainign Roy from now on. He's my boy!

Anyone else notice that Roy's short hop is incredibly fast and mobile? Is it just me? Or does it feel kinda like a melee short hop?

I noticed that too. I didn't play much melee, but Roy's speed and just generally everything about him makes me feel like I'm playing Melee again like those 2 times long ago I played it XD

Maybe Roy is meant to be that character that plays and symbolizes the past iterations, like how Ryu in...I think it was Omega Mode SFIV, had a Third Strike parry and stuff like that. If so, kudos to Nintendo.

Haven't bought Roy yet, can someone who has say how good tier-wise does he seem to be so far?

As someone who formerly played Melee and Brawl competitively, i love the amount of hate and anger that is going on for Ryu's playstyle and for Roy being an actually better version of Marth, unlike in melee where a Marth with above average skills could totally dominate any Roy player regardless of skill.

Seeing people pissed off at new mechanics is always pleasant.

Higher than Marth and Lucina I feel. Gotta get in close to use him well, but all his smashes kill very nicely, his dthrow combos into just about anything you want it to and his mobility is impressive. Getting in close shouldn't be a problem should you be able to use his mobility well.

Yeah, like SFIV, his Focus Attack leaves the opponent in a crumple state so you can follow up with whatever.
But unlike SFIV it lets you hit them with a charged focus attack multiple times in the same combo. Probably coming next patch. Although with the way Sakurai balances smash 4 he might just ignore that and make shoryuken deal 2% damage and have shit knockback. Then the next patch he'll come back and make it deal 1% knockback and reduce its range.

I actually think Ryu's pretty well balanced. His combos work differently than the rest of the cast but for the most part, they don't deal an obscene amount more damage than other characters with strong combos like, say, Luigi. I mean without abusing someone who doesn't know how to DI I can only manage to get about 30% off of one combo, which is about as much as some of my Luigi bnbs like dthrow > fair > fair > dthrow > down b. He can true combo into dp which is a great kill move but so can pretty much every other top tier character. And as a P:M Lucario main he leaves me extremely satisfied.

Oh hey, would anyone happen to know if the DLC characters received their own Palutena's Guidance entries?

Nah, it's the "I've never seen this fighter before!" shtick

The thing I'm noticing most about Ryu right now is that nearly all his buttons are good. Like, if you press a button randomly, 9 times out of 10 times it's going to be good. His hold-jab has nuts range, the 1-2-3 from his tap-jab does pretty good damage and leads nicely to his aerials. His nair is really quick, and even if they block, you can go into a tap-dtilt to stuff the grab attempt. His fair and uair also do and ungodly amount of knockback. His dair is a really good spike, and the input DP is an amazing kill move. Hadouken isn't the best projectile, but it's still fine. Hurricane Kick is an okay approach tool, and Focus Attack makes it almost too easy to transition to fsmash or, if you're close enough, a DP, which at 90%ish is lethal. He seems super good.

Anyway, they said they aren't doing too many more stages, but I hope they can still add some new stages that weren't recycled

That said, it's nice to see retro stages that weren't already used in Melee/Brawl, plus FUCK YEAH PEACH'S CASTLE 64

The joke is that Male Robin is confusing Roy for Eliwood, who is Roy's dad
They look a lot alike

I got that part.

We should probably just stop then.

Is it because it seems like Roy is being treated as a new character? Neglecting Roy is a running gag in that comic.

Man I gotta get that Smash Bros DLC and soon.
Is there a bundle of all the new shit?
Yes but, fair warning, it's more expensive than just buying the stages/characters outright because it includes all the mii costumes.

I paid 21 dollars and some odd cents and this is what I got:

Mewtwo (had neglected to purchase him earlier)
Roy
Ryu + Stage
Lucas
Dreamland

No mii Costumes

Roy is disgusting and is gonna be top tier.
Well, you're disgusting.
....No. Roy is actually the best character in the game right now.
No, I'm serious.
And I don't even care. I wanted this.
