It would be hella awkard not to have everyone return considering the amiibos still work and they announced new add ons still. Heck, Pac Man amiibo was shown off to work with little monsters.

At the end of the trailer where it shows "2018" on the bottom right, it says "2018 Nintendo/HAL Laboratory".
If it was a port, it would say like "2014-2018 Nintendo". I'd love to see Shovel Knight or Shantae as an indie rep.

Also, a leak list on neogaf brought up the reveal of the inklings a week ago along with Ice Climbers and Chun-Li.
 
it's almost like Inklings were the most obvious picks

a smash leak with Inklings is like a vs capcom list with Ryu and Morrigan

I seriously really hope Chun-Li isn't in Smash 5 without Ryu.
If Ryu was there it'd make her hideous meaty thighs more palatable.
You can't ever have something with just Chun-Li.

considering it's smash bros it's probably be the first time Chun has looked good since TvC
i mean, Smash made Cloud purple again so anything is possible

Robin also reps Awakening and has an awesome moveset, so I don't really see them rebuilding Lucina's function instead of replacing her.

Okay look, I hopped off the Undertale train a while back because of the fandom it got.

But the port announcement and all kind of made me wish Papyrus was going to be in it.

I know, I know. Dead game, dead meme, yaddayaddayadda, but UT seemed to have been a huge success in Japan with the official JP patch release, and I still want to throw cold spaghetti at people's faces.

First things first tho: when's WALUIGI
 
I'd honestly really like them to just use 4 as a platform and just update it, I don't want to lose Ryu, Bayo and Cloud.
 
Undertale still has quite the fan following, it's by no means a dead game.
But yes, technically Undertale does have a chance now that it's on the Switch.

Anyway have Waluigi represent spin-offs, golf, tennis, kart, etc.

I just want Rex (the protag of Xenoblade Chronicles 2).
 
Considering Xenoblade's increased popularity I wouldn't be surprised if Rex (and maybe by extension Pyra if not a gameplay mechanic then at least a final smash) make it to the roster. Also I wouldn't be surprised if the smash ballet might play a stronger role in this roster, at least for Nintendo characters.

Smash 4 is so perfect and amazing in every way, I can't help but feel this game will feel lesser no matter what it does.

Smash 4 isnt perfect, but its no doubt almost perfection. If we could balance the customs so they could see tourney play...

Rage mechanic

I also hate how movement feels but the only other Smash game I have a somewhat competitive grasp on is Rivals of Aether, which feels... okay.
 
Everyone has a slight Lucario Aura thing as a universal mechanic, and it's called Rage by the players

when your character is damaged enough to be blinking and steaming, they have a slight knockback boost

And y'know how hitstun decay in MvC3 is dumb because the devs made an absolute exception for multihit moves?

Smash didn't even consider multihit moves. The mechanic affects base knockback instead of knockback growth, with no exceptions. Characters will fall out of all sorts of stuff for no reason.

Minimum Rage comes online at 35%. Also Sheik is a thing.

It's a half-baked way to buff heavyweights IMO, and stacks with Lucario Aura for a real X-Factor.

Xenoblade 2 is anime muck slime and doesn't deserve to be anywhere near Smash. At least Xenoblade 1 had a resemblance of dignity.
