RIP AAA star El Hijo del Perro Aguayo, who died this morning following a mishap last night in a match with Rey Mysterio.

During the setup to a 619, Aguayo accidentally took the middle rope to his trachea and got whiplash. He was taken to a hospital and died at about 1am Tijuana time.

I've watched the footage and the sad thing is that its hard to tell that anything went wrong until Aguayo just stops moving.
 
Rest in peace. I feel bad for everyone involved.
 
I just saw the footage... it's a sad and important reminder that even though wrestling is fake, it's still really, really difficult and dangerous work. RIP and I hope the best for the people involved.

I hope those guys take another look at safety policies and how to judge and act in emergency situations.

Condolences to his family aside, I can't even begin to imagine how Mysterio must be feeling right now. I hope there won't be any serious repercussions down the road.

I think as far as Rey Mysterio and repercussions are concerned, it was a freak accident and it wasn't his fault. I also can't imagine how he feels right now though.

Any manslaughter charges would go to the event organizers. From what I learned it was kind of a messed up event, as there were enough other accidents and injuries happening that night that there weren't enough stretchers (they basically carried him out of the ring on a plywood board) or doctors to look after Del Perro before taking him to the hospital.
 
Well in wrestling..most injuries never get filed as anything even when organizers or companies are actually at fault..which is a huge subject in of itself that I won't get into. It is after all scripted...ray might have messed us his initial dropkick...but perro is the one who took the bump the way he did...The only exception would be Owen..cause they really should have checked the wires before sending him down. But suffice to say there is no criminal aspect here.

It is definitely a tragedy...and it could happen to anyone out of the blue which makes it all the more tragic..Misawa was the best wrestler in the damn world and yet his own physical conditioning resulted in his apparent death at another wrestlers hand...and yet the blame lies soley with Misawa. I'm not saying it's wholly perro's fault, but it's both interesting and sad how fragile human lives are...

Probably trying some last minute comedy before the match since there's a 99% chance of that match being vicious. I thought it was funny as hell just because how unexpected it was and out of character it was, especially considering how tense there last meetings were.
 
Last minute comedy is the last thing you want in the build up to what is supposed to be the biggest event of the year for your company. A frickin' tug of war match over your belt devalues it, and if said belt is the main belt for your company than what happens with that belt reflects what's going on with your company as a whole. If you want a good example of how devastating ruining your belt's image can be, look at WCW after the infamous Fingerpoke of Doom and Vince Russo being Vince Russo.

In better news, BORK LASER just announced that he re-signed into the WWE, so there's a better possibility of ROMANWINSLOL not happening. And in even better news:

Talks are floating around that Finn Balor is going to get called up from NXT after Russlemania Play Button. I have to say I don't have much faith in WWE handling foreign characters very well, but this is Prince Devitt we're talking about, formerly one of the biggest stars of NJPW. And honestly, he looks like one of the few possible call-ups that WWE might not actually screw up, considering he's got one of the best entrances and gimmicks ever already made. As long as they don't reduce him to Sheamus 2.0 just because he's Irish I'm pretty excite.

Also David Arquette, and to be fair to him, even David Arquette thought it was a horrible idea.

Welp, back to unwatching and back to thinking I'm the only wrestling "fan" in the world that actually knows how to enjoy it instead of treating it like every other boring-as-fuck sport in the world.
 
Ooooooooooor you could realize that I watch other wrestling promotions like NXT and Lucha Underground and praise them all the time, I just complain about WWE because it's the juggernaut right now and it doesn't deserve anyone's money and I'm trying to convince everyone to stop feeding into Vince's BS.
 
'Cause then I'd be the one bitching about the former having done absolutely nothing of value since Nexus (Genesis, anyone?) and the latter being like a half-assed Tarantino B-movie that should've stayed a trailer on Grindhouse instead of becoming a full-fledged thing. If you'll recall before you go balls out trying to go on your little #GetMcMahonfired crusade, I said and did nothing to imply that I haven't at least checked out those other shows you mentioned. Of all the others mentioned in this thread that are or aren't WWE related, New Japan is the only one even remotely watchable, aside from WWE.

Okay, now I'm unwatching. God, this is almost as bad as those anything-mainstream-sucks-metalheads I used to get in fights on Youtube with.

Personally, Lucha Underground is the only program I can stand to watch these days. Aside from a rather painful commentary team (which I blame on Striker, since Vampiro seems much more at ease in the Spanish broadcast), the show continually fires on all cylinders.
 
It's a complicated thing really.

WWE presents itself as a monopoly. It is the new york yankees of wrestling promotions. It it the most respected promotion in the world with the biggest stars in the world...unfortunately..this means one other thing. It's publicly traded, which dulls the product down overall. Everything then becomes heavily scrutinized and more about the bottom line than the craft of making a good match or a good story. Thats not to say there isn't good in the current wwe product...but the entire show being focused around the big belt makes it harder to ignore when everything else is something of an afterthought. It's actually rather oddly like the 80s in some ways bit slightly different. I mean people complain alot and if all we do is complain...then why post? its boring and negative...but there can be legitimate criticism by fans who desperately want to like a product. Mizdow is killing it tho. Love Mizdow.

I don't care for Roman and I think the match will be awful. But I'm of the belief that the dude is too green for the position he is being thrust into. He'll be the guy in a few years without a doubt...but the wwe just accidentally rocky maivillaed themselves...for the second time. Brock can put on a good match, but dude isn't a great director in the ring either and he largely relies on his opponents to figure out matches. The agent they get for it will be the main factor ultimately. For mania itself..I'm 50/50. I've watched a ton of bad manias over the years..and I'm scared...but sting and the possible elevation of the intercontinental title.

And like..I feel like people see other good products and get mad and say...why can't the company I like..be more like this product? Like that was probably my first thought after watching ibushi vs nakamura at wrestle kingdom..its not a thing of hatred..seemingly negative people just want to love the wwe, but have problems. And no I don't want Bryan to win anything.
 
Mexico: Wrestler died almost instantly from injury in ring

MEXICO CITY (AP) — An autopsy has found that "lucha libre" wrestler Pedro Aguayo died almost immediately of injuries suffered in the ring over the weekend, Mexican authorities said Wednesday.

Aguayo, the 35-year-old son of retired wrestling legend Pedro "Perro" Aguayo, had three fractured vertebrae and was dead by the time he reached a hospital, said Gilberto Cota Alanis, deputy prosecutor for Baja California state.

Medical staff there tried for 90 minutes to revive Aguayo, Cota Alanis said.

Aguayo was injured during a match in Tijuana, apparently after being launched out of the ring and then, soon after, receiving a flying kick to the shoulder and neck from fellow wrestler Oscar Gutierrez, better known as Rey Mysterio Jr.

Video footage showed Aguayo hanging motionless from the ropes unattended as the bout continued for about two more minutes before other wrestlers and the referee realized he was seriously injured.

He was taken to a nearby hospital and pronounced dead around 1 a.m. Saturday.

Prosecutors have opened an investigation, and Cota Alanis said the four other wrestlers involved in the match would be questioned about the incident as well as Wrestling and Boxing Commission officials who handled Aguayo's body and the medical workers who attended to him.

Aguayo's funeral was Sunday.

Hideo Atami won the AXXESS tournament and will make his debut on the main roster as the official new NXT entrant. Kinda weird since he's the one with the least experience in WWE's style but okay.

Also realized Kobashi is the greatest living wrestler purely based off ofbut Kobashi was in half of those matches so vis a vis..

it was a pretty good ppv this year. Not as good as 30 but definitely better than 28 or 29. The contrary booking was wierd but only a minor quibble.
 
And the main roster gets flippier as Adrian "The Man That Gravity Forgot" Neville and Kalisto make their official debut.

I've been playing catch-up with the past several weeks of Lucha Underground. I just finished Grave Consequences and holy shit, I don't have words for how amazing that was. See for yourself.


For a little bit of context, you can think of Mil Muertes' stone as being like the Undertaker's urn.

In other news, AJ Lee has retired for as of yet unknown reasons.
I'd guess whatever injury she went out with a couple months ago may have been much more serious then thought, at Wrestlemania Paige really was doing all the work.

I thought it was fairly obvious she's been phoning it in for a while now, so I assumed she was just waiting out her contract. Probably something to do with that whole firing her husband on her wedding day thing.
 
Seriously doubt it's an injury thing...fully believe it's a she is financially stable for the rest of her life thing, combined with how her efforts to improve the diva division have resulted in very little upward movement.

They both retired youthful and uninjured with lots of money in the bank...in an industry where the opposite is usually the case. More power to them.

Also invasion attack happened in japan and it was a pretty good card. Kenny Omega beat Mascara Dorada again. Aj Styles beat Kota Ibushi leading into the fated Okada vs Styles at the next big show.

And Pwg's Outta Nowhere show is out on dvd.

Alright, I have to revive this thread because I want to say something.

I'm ashamed of the crowd from this week's NXT. Look, Eva Marie got a push because she's from a reality show only made to please Kevin Dunn and it makes you mad that she's being treated on the same level as the amazing women's division of the league. I get it. But she's still a human being and she's been legitimately training to get good alongside Brian Kendrick and Sara Del Rey. You're a smark crowd, you should know that. No reason to boo her that badly.

I hope the creative team manages to figure out a way to salvage that heat, that was painful to watch.
 
I'm normally okay with smark crowds, but that was way too much. Yes give divas a chance includes eva marie.

In other news..Samoa Joe debuts and accidentally injures tyson kidd in a dark match...and Kevin Owens defeats cena clean.

Also Michael Elgin was announced for the G1 climax this year.

What a time to be..something.

you know i probably should've expected that when i came to revive this thread for wrestlemania star symbol that we'd be in an even worse position of the wwe than a year ago
