Long story short, I was out birthday shopping and I found this glorious arcade stick and ps3 lovebaby.

I bought a pair for 5 bucks at a op shop with naivety this is the natural progression from a pad to an arcade stick, like shit this is not intuitive at holy, tits.

Definitely is one of the strangest layouts for a game pad I've ever seen that actually made it through to store shelves. I don't think I or anyone I know could ever use that comfortably... I just... I don't even know what else to say about it honestly. >>

Its whole design looks like an accident.

Psh. A flightstick-fightpad hybrid? I've seen much worse. BEHOLD!

ARE THOSE PEDALS? FUCKING HELL, GIVE IT TO ME NOW.

Looks like a spaceship. I'll be extremely disappointed if it doesn't have at least a few lazors.

Yeah. That's the controller required to play Steel Battalion, one of the most realistic mecha simulators ever put on consoles. Every doohickey and button's got a function you'll need to use multiple times, including an entire row of buttons for a mecha startup sequence and an eject button, which is vital (don't hit it when you're about to die? You lose your save file!). No pause button, though (have to unplug the controller for that).

Too bad they had to go and use Kinect for the 360 sequel. They kinda deserved the critical drubbing they got there.

I think I'm going to try and find more funky controllers and post them here.

Shit, I feel bad for the thing. the Buttons would consume so much space if they were actual controller sized buttons. Not only that, but now you have to be precise on what button you press cause there so goddamn small.

I saw this thing 1-2 years ago and it just looks uncomfortable to me. :/
I mean, look at it. :(

I've always played Skullgirls with a standard PS3 Controller and I feel like I'll never make the full transition to a Fight Stick because of one little detail. Since I always use just one character I set L1 to LP+MP so I can dash at the simple push of a single button. Fight Sticks don't have that shortcut as far as I know, and I need it because my fingers always get crossed up when I try to dash normally.

So I decided to google "weird controllers"

Get an 8-button stick, set the two buttons on the far right to your macros, set the macros to PP. Not that complicated.

Yeah I considered that already and it feels too weird to be dashing with my other hand, especially since I'd be hitting those buttons with my little finger.

Ahh, yes. The great communicator, immortalized in controller form.

Try using macros with the far left buttons, then?

Hmm, maybe that could work. I'm just so used to performing most movements with my left hand and most actions with my right hand so it's still a little weird for me.

I wonder if there's a weird-ass arcade stick with a button built into the top of the stick.

Pretty sure Mad Catz does that with the start and select buttons. Or used to, at least.

That's like undeniably the worst place to put a start button, into the stick itself.

Oh. I thought you were talking about the top of the body of the stick. Never mind. Mad Catz never did that.

Still, it's kind of the least of your worries with transitioning to a stick. Because your execution and especially your mobility are going to suck until you practice for like a month regardless of whether you dislike the placement of your macros.
Like, you're going to have to relearn all of your mobility so you might as well learn to use your right hand for dashing.

That sounds horrifying.
Shouldn't you always put the start and select buttons in a place where you're least likely to accidentally push them?

Anybody else think that a controller shaped like a sword is a horrendously bad idea?

I'm confused on where you would hold that...

I better be able to unsheathe that thing and it better be lethal.

If bad is short for brilliantly rad, sure.
Horrendously brilliantly rad?

If horrendously is short for handsomely outstanding revolutionary remarkably exceptional notabl- you get the idea.

Oh hey a Logitech Wingman. It's actually pretty good considering PC gets mostly Dual Shock knockoffs that break in 2 weeks.

That said, it does look like an unholy lovechild between a pad and an arcade stick...though I disagree with it being a PS3.
It looks more like a Sega Saturn pad and an arcade stick did a botched fusion dance. Doesn't help that the angle makes it look like it's armed with built-in DAGGERS.

It looks like if Dr. Frankenstein gave up on creating his monster and decided to work on game controllers instead.

All these pics of innovative controllers are actually driving me a little crazy, merely because I can't even begin to imagine how one should play with, let alone hold most of them properly. The biggest offender is definitely the sword one.

I love how creative some of these are. Would buy them just for collection aha
Some honorable mentions

I'd never felt uncomfortable looking at a gamepad before, but then I came across this old Microsoft SideWinder on eBay:

You can tell they put a lot of thought into this layout. I can only imagine where the Dual Analog sticks would have ended up.

Got this baby at a garage sale for $5

Tried to play through Mega Man 2 with it

It was the most uncomfortable thing ever. You have to balance it on something. No human hand can hold it up and play normally.

God I want that
Does it work better on a table?

And people say the Wii U GamePad is too clunky. Geez.

Nope, cause it's not flat. It works best by curling up into a little hush-puppy ball and balancing it on your knees

There's apparently also a GameCube version. For your Smash tournies and such. Only difference is THIS keyboard isn't removable, but the PS2 one is

Honestly, the GamePad is one of the most comfortable controllers I've used in a long time. Unlike the Keyboard Kommander, it's perfectly balanced and can be held in one hand without causing arthritis
