Hello all. I've been playing Skullgirls for a short amount of time but I've loved this game since I first played it in 2012. Now I'm going to my first tournament this Saturday. Not only that but im running it!

It will only be a side event, but I want to do as best as possible to make sure it's run smoothly so more people are interested in joining the fun. Is there any advice a well seasoned TO could give me? Any ruleset suggestions? I'm open to anything.

Hello yes I have TO experience

The standard ruleset for Skullgirls is double elimination, best 2 out of 3 games. Winners finals, losers finals, and grand finals usually are 3 out of 5. If you get less than 8 people, which seems possible due to the date of your tournament, maybe consider running round robin instead of double elimination. Up to you. I use challonge to make brackets, it can handle both double elim and round robin, you can find it at the following Internet web URL online: www.challonge.com

As far as running it, try not to make anyone wait too long for their match if they can help it. If I HAVE to make someone wait because the brackets are held up I like to try to explain to that person why they're waiting so long so they're not just sitting there like wtf where's my match. For double elimination tournaments try to run losers matches before winners matches; every time a losers match happens, someone is eliminated from the tournament and then you don't have to keep track of that person anymore which is one less thing to worry about.
 
i'm not a TO but i wanna add

ultradavid said some things about the ESL MKX bracket yesterday that were pretty good, basically don't run too far down one side of the bracket (i.e. winner's because you can't go further in winners than losers) because then people have to wait longer for "hype-er" matches. And it's good to do winners finals, then losers semis, then losers finals, then GF because then the loser of winners finals doesn't have to play again right off. (of course if it's a small tournament this is less relevant but just something to keep in mind)
 
Thank you guys, I'll try to keep this in mind. I've been to poorly run tournaments and I would hate to make someone else experience that
 
Use TioPro for running tournaments. It's amazing.

When was the last time you used it? It's been updated a bunch of times.
