Trying to make a solid color Background to record animations

I've downloaded SkullMod 0.7.2 and have been looking around on the forums trying to see if there's a tutorial for changing the backgrounds or whether certain programs like Photoshop are necessary or would Paint work. However, I have little to no knowledge in programming, some of the archived threads seem incomplete, and in all honestly I am terribly lost and don't even know where to start in regards to whatever .gfs files are. Can someone point me in the direction of a good starter thread that has not been 404'd? Thank you.
