What's the next step you would recommend to a beginner?

Sup guys, I'm new to fighting games and started getting into Skullgirls recently and I want to get better but I'm not sure what I should be doing to improve. I've read guides and stuff but there's so much information that I don't know where to begin.

Atm, I practice my bnb and I play with friends I met playing this game. I used to play a lot of smash so stuff like mindgames and mixups are pretty easy for me to pick up concept wise. Beyond that, I'm lost.

Is this a 'just keep playing' kind of thing or is there something else I should be trying out in training mode?

I would recommend to get more acquainted with the community since it's probably the most friendly and helpful in FGs I've even seen, and try playing online with people that are better than you.

Also get a team :P

Keep playing online against people better than you, try to learn harder combos/resets, you seem to be accustomed to how the footsie game works so you're on a good start.

Pretty much what they said. It kinda is a keep playing thing since you learn more about characters and match ups in fights than anything else.
Starting off solo is fine, but once you start thinking about combo extensions with assists and DHCs it becomes a completely different game.

Also don't be afraid to send steam friend requests. Almost everyone I've come across is willing to hit accept.

Patience and everything is a learning opportunity. You will suck at first and may get stuck in lots of combos to resets. Rather than mash buttons and get frustrated, think about how they are comboing, what resets they are doing, when are they doing it, and how to avoid it.
Also practice inputs. 20 times in a row both ways.

lots of time crying on your own because of dropping combos
denial
rage and absolute hatred of the game

thats what I did as a beginner and now i am mediocre at this game

Aye sounds good guys. I intend to stay a solo main because the idea of 1v2/1v3 is cool to me but later on I'll pick up some other characters to get a better idea of how assists work. I'll also start adding people if I can search them on steam.

Losing doesn't make me mad at all. Dropping combos in training? Salt, salt everywhere haha.

1 = Learn your moves. Figure out what counters what.

2 = Get a team.

3 = Practice combos. I know it might seem like mindless work, and some people will say that combos don't matter if you just don't get hit, but practicing combos will force you to take your execution to another level, will give you the ability to compete against certain people you might not have had a chance against otherwise (and thus learn how to strategize against them and fight effectively), and push your entire game further. It will also teach you things you might not know about your characters move properties and stuch.

4 = Have fun. Different people improve at different rates.

I just found out that my keyboard has ghosting issues which explains some sudden combo drops. Welp. Time to invest in a better keyboard. Any suggestions?
