Report What's Up With Fukua: A Q&A With Mike Z

Going by the same convention that got Fukua her name, his name should actually be "Sansin". I like "Shamone" better though.

Also, quick question for Mike. Any plans to get that tune from Fukua's trailer into the actual game somehow? Maybe a special arcade mode encounter, or a cheaply edited version of the "Streets of New Meridian" stage? If not, can it at least get a soundtrack release?

I like Fukua, but is there any chance of her getting a little more refinement if she's going to be permanent? I know she's re-used frames, but if she's going to be there for everyone to use she could be presented a little better.
Also can we get double-jump cancels on her air-normals pretty plz Mike?

I think shes the devil and ruins SG's integrity which is why I play her.

I thought the entire point of removing her airdash was to remove airdash cancels

Double Jump cancels are completely different from Airdash cancels.
More like Captain America (I loves me some Capn)
Less like Magneto.
Also the momentum on her double jump wouldn't allow for you to do air-dash reset shenanigans/general aerial fuckery.

It's pretty terrible how many people in here are asking for various additions on top of what we got with Fukua. She was literally made in 3 days with cobbled together assets. It's absolutely nuts that we got a new character at all and completely unreasonable to expect her to be fully on par with the rest of the cast given how tight the LZ budget is.

Yes. I mentioned this in the Stage Discussion thread, but again, the Plaza stage is nowhere near polished enough to be added as a new stage. It'd take a ton of work to bring it up to par with even the simplest of SG's stages.

It looks like a nice stage, but even as a flat painting it's really unfinished compared to everything else in SG and would stand out horribly. Fukua is only slightly unpolished compared to the rest of the cast because her transitions between animations are a little choppier than normal so that's not a major concern. A clearly unfinished background is a totally different story.

Once the whole background is fully detailed up, there's still the process of making it a 3D arena too.

So yes, there is a lot of work in making one of these stages, and it would also be expensive.

Well to be fair, I think some people would prefer no character at all over a character that was developed in only 3 days, and is not on par with the rest of the cast. Not at all trying to sound ungrateful for the effort already put in or anything, but I can understand both sides to the discussion.

Yeah, but Fukua is a freebie gift to the community.

Honestly, I can't. I mean if she were Karate Guy from MUGEN maybe, but she's already quite a fair bit more polished than some of the characters she has palette references to are...and why you would decline a part of the game that others may enjoy is beyond me.
Unless you already can't beat her or hate her playstyle, that is.

And you know what? Aside from missing things she's more polished than FILIA HERSELF is. She has better recovery on a lot of things that use recycled frames than the actual attack does, excepting the fireball.

Honestly the only thing about fukua is the fireball disapearing on whiff, if its all right to ask could we get Val's shuriken smoke to make the furby disapear?

Then someone else will have to come defend the people that still have issues with her. Personally I'm for her, but that doesn't matter
 
Since there's a ton of topics about the girl, i'm sorry if it was already answered, but might as well ask here anyway.

Watching the combos and stuff players figured out about fukua, how mike thinks she is balance-wise? fine as it is? needs a buff or nerf? will she receive constant balancing updates like the rest of the chars or stay as she is now?
 
I'm interested in hearing what Mike thinks about Fukua with regards to balance, and maybe some hints as to what'll change about her in the future.

The thing about her that's annoying the shit out of me is that I've been hit by the armored command grab literally 100% because its animation looks too much like she's about to throw a fireball, and doesn't look like a grab at all.
 
How does it look like she's about to throw a fireball? She doesn't even DO that hair bun thing when she throws a fireball.

Just learn to recognize that when her hair goes into a bun, she's doing that long easy-to-react-to 35f command grab.

She needs some design refinements at least for her to stand out from Filia. What is the thing she throws out in her fireball? Is that an egg or something?

This isn't a question but she totally needs some palettes based off old stupidly poorly made MUGEN recolor characters like Ghetto Warmachine or Green Latern Lucario.

Does this mean that her default color is "Real Fukua"? Cause that'd be great.
