What's your Favorite Video-Gaming Genre and Why?

I know this being a form for a fighting game,
A majority of people might say well "Fighting Games" my self included but besides this genre
what's your favorite?

For me it would have to be, JRPG's.

Growing up with games like: Final Fantasy 9, Tales of Symphonia and Dragon Quest 8; I've always been a sucker for mostly turn-based RPG's. The feeling of strategy and preparation that goes into the battles was always pretty fun to me.


To a leaser extent I'm also a fan of Platformers thanks to games like:
Sonic Battle 2, Mario Sunshine and Super Meat Boy

So what's yours?

I am a fan of RPGs and Adventure game (and of course Fighting game)

I love the persona series and I like adventure games like wind waker

Fighting games are not my favorite genre, even if I played some time to time when I was young, Skullgirls is the one that gave me the desire for playing fighting games more seriously (and it is probably my favorite game of the year).

So, I especially play RPGs, but I really love some exceptions like the Alice series by American McGee or FPS like Mirror's Edge or Bioshock.
For RPGs, I'm a huge fan of The Elder Scrolls series, and I love Dark Souls, Diablo 3 and The Witcher series. As you can see, I'm very fond of Dark Fantasy universes.
I love this genre cause I really enjoy the atmosphere and the liberty you can have, particulary in TES, this feeling of having an entire living world with a rich lore. I also love making character's skills and stuff evolve, and experimenting different classes, different ways to play.
And I freacking love being amazingly rich by discovering treasures and selling expensive things found in dungeons ! *My god... why do I love money so much in video games ?!*

Besides Fighting games, I adore Platformers, Beat-em-ups, and JRPG's. Racing to a lesser extent.

I don't really have a favourite, not because I pretend that I like everything but because I play different genres for different reasons and so it feels like comparing apples and oranges. If I want to just zone out and play something, I'll normally go for a racing game of some kind (Distance being my current pick, especially while listening to lecture recordings). If I want a story, I'll probably go for an ARPG or similar, and if I want to actually put effort in I'd probably go fora FG. Space sims for when I want to wake up several days later and wonder what I'm doing with my life. Of course there are massive exceptions, but to me it just seems dumb to play most FGs or racers for the story, when their strengths clearly lie elsewhere.

I feel the same including the Distance part...except the listening to lecture recordings part. The other racing game I like is Tales Runner the concept was there, not the execution sadly.

Let's see if I had to make a pick though...it would be a hard fought battle between RPG, Adventure and whatever genre Ace Attorney falls into. Elaborating some more...its because I love a good story. A good story imo tells me something significant in life or whatever and also I can appreciate the game as a piece of artwork.

I try to play many genres and not limit myself too much. I really regret the several years I spent playing nothing but fighting games. Nowerdays, I play a little bit of several different genres each play session. 30 minutes of rpg here, 30 minutes of shmup there, 30 minutes of fighter, etc.

That being said, I'd say that when it comes to pure action, shmups are my favorite single player genre. They are simultaneously the most simple single player action genre, being based purely on precise omni-directional movement, and also the most complex and deep single player action genre with the near limitless skill ceiling for reacting and "sight reading" enemy attack patterns alongside mastering each games unique mechanics and stunts.

I like RPG's too, and I can go for any number of styles for that genre (classic dungeon crawl, srpg, roguelike, action rpg, etc.). I like rpg's for their in depth story telling ability, though there are still some that I think would be worth playing solely for gameplay (many action rpg's, some srpg's and dungeon crawls, etc.)

I'd say it's a "Mystery Point and Clicker" but,
I might be wrong on that one.

Besides Fighing Games, I would say Tactical-RPGs, with general action on a close third.
Mainly because of my love for Final Fantasy Tactics (best FF game).
Also if you like FFT you should try the 1.3 Insane Difficulty Version. It's awesome.

I'm really into most (good) games that allow for couch co-op or coach versus.
Love fighting games for this reason. Skullgirls is my favorite due to the learning curve and tight, balanced gameplay.
Hate Gearbox, hate whats has become of the Borderlands IP, but vanilla-BL2 is fun with friends.
I'm actually a huge GoW3 fan, I know it is a popular game to hate, but it's got tight gameplay and loads of replay value, at least for me.
Also I think Warcraft III is like on of the best games ever made, although I think it has balancing issues.

For the most part, there isn't necessarily a genre of games I like as a whole.

I would say RPG, but most RPGs are role-playing as dolphins are fish.

I would say Adventure, but that's broad as broad can get to describe anything.

I would say Rhythm, but I lean more to stuff like Rock Band and Guitar Hero than anything along the lines of OSU.

I would say Stealth, but most Stealth games have the subtlety of a flying rampaging sky whale on fire.
