If you had to choose your Top 5 story modes, which would they be?
With number 1 being my absolute favourite, this is my top:
5. Robo-Fortune
To me is by far the funniest story mode, even though it takes a very interesting dark turn in the end. I always thought of the "Days of Future Cats" as an alternative story filled with despair, as depressing as the movie Logan.
Anyway, Robo-Fortune is just too entertaining. And this story also contains some of the funniest Brain Drain moments lol
4. Parasoul
This one is my favourite from the original release, with Valentine's story being a close second. I think Parasoul has some of the most entertaining side characters, and after the battle against Marie she has an optimistic ending despite what the future may bring.
3. Eliza
When MK Aftermath released everyone was like "wow so this is what it feels to play as the villain!" and I was... umm, Eliza anyone??
Eliza is pure evil. It's not among my favourite characters, but her story truly feels like you're playing as the FINAL BOSS of the game lol it makes the point across really well. I liked the story even if a lot of moments were really hard to go through, she's literally butchering some of my faves. But that's what villains do. This is like, the only way for the good guys to win is to stop playing lol
I also wanted to mention that this is one of the best paced stories. I know it's not easy because this is a fighting game after all, but it's done very seamlessly, and it shows how the devs were improving on the foundations of the first story modes to deliver more intricate and spectacular stories.
2. Umbrella
I'm not exaggerating, this one is outstanding. It showed that Umbrella is more than just salty memes, they gave her a very compelling character arc (along with Parasoul) that I enjoyed a lot.
It has some very good moments aside of the main story that make it even better, like the scene of Umbrella and Painwheel talking in the park. That was great.
The ending is epic. In a way it's like it had taken some of the concepts of Parasoul's story and brought them to a new level.
Despite being a bratty child, I don't think Umbrella is annoying or unlikable. On the contrary, she's not one-dimensional at all and her story is engaging.
1. Squigly
I remember the first time I played Squigly's story mode and how it amazed me.
From an incredibly dark opening to an epic adventure and ending on an absolute high note, this is my favourite story.
Squigly and Leviathan are the most interesting host-parasite duo to me, and the interactions between them and with other characters are fantastic, I loved all the dialogues! and fights, of course lol
Squigly's story is really sad, but there's something particularly tragic about her fate; rising up from the dead every time a new Skullgirl shows up. And yet, I cannot wait for her and Leaviathan's return...
Honorable mentions: Valentine, Annie, Peacock, Big Band and Fukua.
