Guilty Gear Thread

Edit:Kongk4 is that what those floating things he makes are/do?
if so, that would explain a lot actually
Yup. You activate them by doing QCB attack, same button depending on the move. (Forgot to mention that).

Also, what Spencer said.

It might have been the way you put it Spencer but,
The guy sounds terrifying to fight with all the of his teleportation attacks and ghost mix-ups!

(Had to Edit this so it was legible :P)

He seems to want to play a safe spacing game until he can get a knock down and use either bed de ja vu or teleport head throw to get in.

He's interesting. He's got four moves. Head throw which acts like a boomerang. Head throw which teleports him if it hits the opponent (slow start up). Bed slam which is amazing but can be anti-aired. And, where he turns into a tornado. After doing any of them, he places a mark which can be destroyed but it allows him to redo that move from that point with better start-up and recovery which creates some awesome mix-ups like fake jump-in > immediate low once tele head hits(watch any video with him attacking someone in a corner).

He has an 8 way double jump for lack of a way to describe it, but doesn't have a traditional air dash. He jumps, hovers in the air for a second, and can "dash" in any of the 8 directions from there.

He has no traditional forward dash either. Instead he goes into recovery frames and "parries" a move which instantly teleports him to the opponent. Punishable so it isn't used for movement.

6hs teleports forward a little bit before striking. Has invuln frames and can cross-up through the opponent.

Those are his more interesting mechanics.

Actually, he just has a forward dash with a kind of gimmick. He teleports when hit in the middle of the dash and he can block things out of the teleport so his forward dash isn't so bad, it does have a little bit of recovery though. (I tested by dashing forward and holding FD he waits a bit before the circle appears.)

Also I thik it should be noted that his ghost stuff all count as mid hits, but I don't seem to be able to flick them as potemkin (might be my timing being off.)

people who own the game should really look into the in-game Library mode

so many interesting story bits are just stated outright. here's some stuff I noticed from various streams of players just looking around:

- Vernon is actually the VP of Erica (from Chipp's novel) and that she had to leave office due to an illness.

- The Valentines' Mother is confirmed to be the same entity known as The Universal Will

- Both Zato AND Eddie were dead after the events of XX/AC and the Conclave was responsible for resurrecting them both. Eddie, like Zato, is much more calm now. Perhaps due to the resurrection process.

- The basis of resurrection and ultimate plan of Conclave is using a magical term called "Magical Foci" and the process of binding a soul to an inanimate object. The entry on this specifically mentions Paracelsus/Flament Nagel.

- Crow is still working on his crazy Justice cloning project.

- The pseudo-Gear Opus units are manufactured under the orders of Ariels at a location called "Frasco II". Yeah, we got A.B.A references. It is run by the founder of the Post-War Administration Bureau, Leon Mining, and Dr. Repro Crowley. The Lab also may have connections to the Robo-Ky project.

- Robo-Ky's power source is that beetle seen in some of his sprites. It's called the Hercules Engine (or Heracles Engine since that's its name in Isuka's Factory mode.)

- The Post-War Administration Bureau's original purpose was to care for veterans who survived the Crusades and help them reintegrate into society. Of course, they're just an arm of the Conclave.

- Testament's succubus is named, almost too obviously, "Exebeast". So, I guess she's the floor monster too? Testament's scythe is constructed of his own blood.

- Dizzy is still considered a part of the Jellyfish Pirate crew, but is listed officially as "on leave".

This game is officially out for PS3 consoles right (just not on psn). If so, I will head over to my local gamestop right now. I have not been keeping up-to-date with the current status of GG Xrd

GameStop's been selling it since the tenth, as they never got a street date for it. It's now officially out, though.

Anyone know what Bedmans Fighting style is going to be like?
He looks awesome but, have no idea how he works
Bedman-ggxrd-artwork.png
His basic toolkit sets him up as a spacing character but his real thing is I guess a set up rushdown character. He like to space you out at neutral, but his goal is to get dejavu symbols placed then get on top of you at + frames. His pressure with Dejavu tokens out is absolutely crazy, especially with YRC.

He wants to get you blocking a dejavu then do instant overheads to poke for damage or go for hover mixups/6HS into more dejavu, occasionally a tricky teleport ball to keep you on your toes/reset pressure because teleport ball is like +9 on block.

So he's like Carl clover from BB.
Instead of using ada as a means for mix-ups, you're using these dejavu tokens to get the drop on them.
Right?

It is pretty abstract, but he reminds me of PW in that regard. He is a rushdown that can't go ham from the start. He's got to bide his time and wait for a solid opening, but once he's in he seems scary as shit.

@destruction_adv

Yeah, I phrased that badly. He has a forward dash, but you shouldn't use it like a forward dash. His run speed is silly fast and more than adequate for getting in. Forward dash should be treated more like a parry.

.

Its pretty funny, but this is the same thing i was thinking.

Offensive setup characters though, arent exactly new to asw games. Most characters can be said to be somewhat setup based of some kind at least... Aka venom with his balls, dizzy with her orbs, chipp with his knockdowns etc etc

Off topic:

I still dont have this game on retail because it seems that yahoo canceled my american account.

Does anyone know of an easy american e-mail to get from australia?

He is very different in his design though, whereas most of those character have very typical throw a fireball on the corpse type stuff, Bedman has to actually use a move first before he gets a dejavu and then it results in very different things depending on spacing.

Bedman also has very awkward strings, when I was first playing him, I kept trying to go for 5HS(2) > 1HS xx 236HS combos, but you just aren't in the position for that very much midscreen. It took me a while to realise that at mid range I should be going for sweep xx 236K shenanigany stuff and at long just trying to confirm straight into 234S so I can get some kind of knockdown at least then do 214S for that beautiful oki.

Can't talk about Pot, but a big chunk of I-no's neutral got weakened.
At least there is SOMEONE here who understands this haha.

People see I-No's HCL command changed to a 214 and cry BS when they don't realise how many of her neutral game tools were weakened to make this a thing.

HCL has #R range which isn't too bad, but the hitbox is thin and has NO reverse hitbox at all, it doesn't even hit at point blanc against many characters now.

far S is borderline useless now and pretty much made redundant by 5K. That beautiful, beautiful AC far S....

Of course it is pretty much #R far S.... but WAY less range, which sucks.

Bedman has awesome movement...his forward dash is gimicky, but he has really good walk speed. You really don't need a fwd dash with him. His back dash is really good. He has a projectile that teleports and can cross up. His 6Hs can cross up. Plus, he has an eight way air dash...Does anyone play Xrd on Hitbox? It's custom built for Bedman.

About I-No's neutral, all I gotta say is hcl yrc, antidepressant scale (projectile I think) yrc, j.Hs (of course) and you got pretty fucking good neutral. She is a STRONG character, the stuff she has makes up for losing things like f.S, despite that poke being quite strong in +R. She is a real good character in Xrd, I promise you.

Sorted my shit out... Now just gotta wait 5 hours while au internet hamster runs this DL into my ps4.

I did not expect it this early but guilty gear has shown in my local game shops, an arc system works game showed up closely to it's counterparts release date.

It's like a relatively close to Christmas miracle.

So, having just used sin, ram, elf, and bedman... I like them all, plus i picked leo to be my main via aesthetics and personality, plus i like venom...

So... This is what a character crisis feels like...

Gah, i wish gg were a team game... Sigh.

Sin:

Does good damage, has monstrous pokes, seems like a good fundamental character that gets damage for free.

Elf:

Zoning with reload looks cool and i like her look in general.

Ram:

Holy hell this is one good looking character! Id definitely try to run some game if i were to ever meet such a woman irl and i werent married (go go divorce and stalking ram cosplayers at anime conventions?) hmmmm....

Her sword stuff looks like if might be hard to get a grip on speaking from a gameplay standpoint for myself.

Bedman:

I like his moveset and movement. Definitely interests me the most as far as gameplay is concerned, lots of options to get loose with and devise a gameplay style.

So far I'm thinking leo main (though i have yet to use him) sin second and perhaps bedman third. It depends on how i take to leo though and how far from sin his gameplay is. If leo is close to sin gameplay wise then i wont pick up sin at all. And will likely go leo/bedman or venom/milia

I'm just looking for 3 characters that differ enough gameplay wise to keep me interested in the game by always having a different style to practice.

As a heads up to anyone who wants to buy either I-No or Faust's system voices, there is a bug where if you buy Faust's, you will get I-no's instead and vice versa. Sony is working on a fix but probably isn't going to be available for awhile.

Edit - it should work now

@Dime_x

Same boat, man. My "short" list: Bedman (he's #1 for now), Elph (though her almost certain popularity is tempering it some), Ram, I-No, and oddly enough May has recently made the list.

Plus a whole shitload of characters that are 'maybes'.

The only thing truly short is my list of 'not interested': Pot (giant meatheads are meh), Zato (something about him pisses me off), and Millia (*yawn*).

Hearing that leo is midtier... Which means kinda ass... Not liking that. Its early but first impressions tend to hold over the course of a games lifespan... Viper notwithstanding.

He's been out for like two days. Give it a week before you take any tier rankings with Leo any mind. Elphelt is clawing her way up to Zato status according to some people. Let people find shit out.

I've decided, Sol Badguy is my main because I love fire so much I wanna stick my dick in it.
Also if I ever get my hands on GG Xrd I'll try out Ramlethal because holy hell that brown girl is hot.

i love Venom so much. He has a really fun neutral and so many options. If only i could do 2k cS(2) xx Carcass raid consistently.....

midtier... Which means kinda ass...

definitely doesn't. Tiers are more compressed in guilty gear than most games imo... FAB destroys pretty much everyone with Potemkin who is the worst in the game, skill>tiers

he.just.came.out

you cant assign a tier to him yet he just came out

stopstopstopstopstop

90% of the time first impressions are telling.

"He just came out" might still apply in the early 2000's when we as a collective community had a lot less time with our respective games and less time in fighting games in general, but nowadays people catch on pretty quick and its easy to see general things like "lowish damage" "buttons not the best" "slow"

Etc etc.

Yes he may grow. But once ive seen a character hailed as midtier (or seems weakish) by the the majority of early adopters, ive only seen one character turn that around (viper), in every other game this usually spells something of a fundamental nature wrong with the character... Usually. And ive played ALOT of separate fighting games early on.

But there's the chance that he may be a viper style character, or one that it takes a particular kind of player to use... So yeah.

But its NEVER to early to speculate.

So what's his english voice sound like? it's been super annoyingly impossible for me to find a decent amount of his english voice stuff.

it sounds like they got an actual black guy to voice him but did not give him a single piece of audio from the japanese track to go off of

I like it, but, everyone else seems to hate the english voices so idk. I like pretty much all of them.
