King of Fighters - General

Considering their main reason for going into 3D now, is so they can have the experience for making 3D games in the future, it's why the 3D is kinda weird now. Like, what many people forget is that this KoF game is SNK rebranding themselves after selling themselves to the pachinko mines super hard.

Like, their announcements of sequels that they want to do, the KoF merchandise they wanna make, its all to bring themselves back to where they once were.

And to answer your question, probably not. I can see them keeping KoF to its formula since its super solid and easy to get into for the most part.

it's a slightly slower, slightly floatier, slightly higher/lower damage XIII with aspects of '98 and 2002 mixed in

that's what I'm calling it based on observation and dev interviews

well, 98 and 2002 are what they're wanting to go for, and those are often considered the best KoF games ever (I fucking love 98) even with it's unforgivable lack of K'.

if that's how the game is gonna be, can't wait. like, I really enjoy Tekken, but I don't want KoF to become that.

Um, yeah this can go in another thread but considering the Character it can go here...

Mai is playable in DoA 5 Last round come September.

who cares about a dumb character in a dumb game when it's time to RELEASE THE GEESE

Predict the bowl, Jar Jar Binks, and Hayate the combat butler.

EVO IS GETTING THE 48-CHARACTER BUILD YEAAAAAAAAAAAH

So, in preperation for the KoF14 hype, I've been watching a lot of the SNK media stuff that came out over the past 20 or so years. and I'm gonna just list what I've watched so far in order from worst to best.

KoF the Live Action Movie
Art of Fighting
Fatal Fury: Legend of the Hungry Wolf
Fatal Fury: The New Battle
King of Fighters: Another Day (good fucking lord this OST is my personal crack)
Fatal Fury: the Motion Picture.

then, I'm gonna talk about the stuff I've seen
so, KoF the movie... it's shit. like, the casting is terrible, and not just for clearly not asian Kyo Kusanagi who has an asian dad? but also for the fact that Mai is FLAT! FLAT! FLAT! and boring! it's like she doesn't know what fun is EVEN WHEN SHE'S PLAYING AROUND WITH HER OPPONENTS! Iori needed to be more of a dickhead, instead they try to play him off as more of a tragic hero, and not an anti-hero. I can forgive short hair Terry but he seems like the most jaded fuck I have ever seen. and not even like "I am sick of all this shit going on in South Town", more like he just hates all the mystical bullshit around him. did I mention Mai is FLAT?! also, another problem I have with this movie is that it is the clearest example of a film company just taking no more than a passing glance at the source material from a more recent game. like, most of the cameos from other characters are names on a character's contact list ON THEIR FUCKING PHONE! and Orochi is just floating around everywhere like "hey guys whats up? is dis a fight you got going on here?" it really kills any mood that it's supposed to set up when it's in the first fight with NOBODY who uses the three sacred treasures. It's just Mai and Mr. Big. also, Rugal is probably the only entertaining character in this movie. like, his actor knew it was gonna be a shitshow and he's just having fun with all of it. fuck this movie.

Art of Fighting. probably the most boring out of the animated stuff, and also the dumbest in terms of altering the colors of the characters. like, why do Ryo and Robert have to switch hair colors? another problem with it is that it doesn'st want to any good fights until like the very end. there's Ryo and Robert fighting some thugs in the beginning, but they don't fight anyone significant until the final act. Hell, Mr. Karate/Takuma never once showed up. also, the scene where Robert and Ryo look for the jewel lasts way too long, like it was panned out that way to meet a movie length or something. this OVA, movie, I dunno, it just feels like a cheap cash grab.

Fatal Fury: Legend of the Hungry Wolf. now this one is pretty good. cheesey as fuck, but good. I like that the characters look like their videogame counterparts and that their personalities are in tact for the most part. but, I felt it is too short and could have used a couple more scenes of something to add in more content with these characters.

Fatal Fury: The New Battle. MUCH better than the first one. they cut right to what needs to be in these movies and animations, the cameos. first fight we get everyone's favorite man with a perpetual justice boner, Kim Kaphwan. the sequel also knows how to add spectacle and substance because there's more fights and the one's that are on screen are really great. I loved the fight Mai and Andy had with Lawrence Blood, and I loved Joe's assbeating from Krauser. thanks for the shit talking, Paul Dobson. my only gripe is that we don't really have much involving the characters at the end. like, Andy's story ends before the final fight, as does Joe and Mai's. like, I get that the Tony part of the story had to wrap up but we could have had something with it.

King of Fighters, Another Day. OH. MY GOD! this OST is fantastic. like, I'd put this short series between Fatal Fury 1 and 2 but this soundtrack is just that great. and I definitely love the amount of cameos this shorts series has: the Meiras, Terry, Rock (who I still say is overrated but not bad, especially in this movie), Iori, Kyo, the Ikari team, K Team, Athena and Mai Shiranui FOR NO REASON, and more. I love it. I've always watched this mini-series from time to time and I still enjoy it even now. it's great if you just want an in-between story with KoF characters. the only major flaw this series has is Ash Crimson is in it.

Fatal Fury: the Motion Picture. this movie just feels like it was gonna be the last thing the Fatal Fury characters were gonna be in. they pull out tons of cameos that are absolutely unnecessary and I love them all. also the best Kim fight ever. fuck you if you don't agree. and I love qall the interaction everyone has with each other. it's just nice to see the Fatal Fury boys actually being with each other throughout most of the film, cwhereas the first 2 movies separates them very frequently. the best send-offs for this movie. the only flaws are that characters melt frequently and some minor Obari-isms if those aren't your thing. very good.
WHOA OH OH ANGEL! COME GREET THE DAWN IT'S THEMOVETHATPUTMEINTHEHOSPITAL!

South Town Team

it's great to see Billy doing well now that he's 100% cancer free.
but now I have a bigger question:
where's Hopper?

no, that's Hein.

I'm talking about Hopper.
latest

he's the guy on Geese's left.

Character profiles

Billy Kane: Billy is Geese’s right-hand man in The King of Fighters XIV. He first made his debut in Fatal Fury 1 and joined the cast of The King of Fighters in The King of Fighters ‘95. He uses the Bojutsu fighting style and wields a santetsukon, a three-sectional staff. He’s been by Geese’s side ever since Geese helped get him and his sister, Lilly, off of the streets.

Geese Howard: Geese got his start as the boss in Fatal Fury, and has been part of The King of Fighters since The King of Fighters ‘96. His attacks use the Hakkyokuseiken style’s Aikijutsu and Kobujutsu techniques. He is a crime lord and head of the Howard Connection who built himself up after his father abandoned him and his mother as a child. He’s entering this year’s tournament to prove he’s the best and strongest fighter.

Hein: Hein is Geese’s new bodyguard. He uses a unique fighting style known as Gambit, which is inspired by the game of chess. He also has the ability to control a form of dark-red energy, which he uses in some of his attacks.

AND XANADU IS JUST
CnUkWc-WEAA4jjl.jpg

'hello :D'

Grampa needs to stop wandering so much
He'll spook the neighbors

Alice is Double. Steals normals and specials from the Fatal Fury cast. And Benimaru's divekick.

That's not Benimaru's divekick. That's her version of the Rising Tackle.

The Diving Tackle.
However, she does take moves from Duck King too

Still won't full the hole in my heart for not having Blue Mary. Then again, aside from Billy the whole South Town team got ripped apart. Yamazaki isn't anywhere from what I can tell...

Pros: Kensou is back to looking and sounding like a goober

Cons: His goddamn shitty XIII stance is back.

Get rid of XIII stances, I want old Ryo back.

I say get rid of cartoon character Kensou.
we already got criminal team.
I want cool Psycho Soldier Kensou.

Xanadu's beard changes color with his alts that makes me so happy. He needs a reversal though. Lookin pretty weak. Also:

It has been confirmed that Rock Howard will be playable

in Garou: Mark of the Wolves, coming to PS4 and Vita via PSN!
