One Big Night! One Big Show! One Big Man! One Big Band! General Discussion

Oh hey, someone that called it Drama. +5 points!

Increased undizzy (sorry) would only SORT of help. I could go with sound stun so you only get one if you haven't yet done sound stuff but you normally haven't done sound stuff anyway.

DHCing into SSJ is not affected by min damage, since DHCs rescale higher than minimum and it's not enough hits to get you to min again.
DHC into SSJ...? Big Band confirmed Saiya-jin!

Two new Big Band colors added! King Dedede is best Band, but I can't tell what the second one is. I think it's an unfinished Darkwing Duck. Can we get a confirmation, or any of other guesses?

Well, there's my answer. That was fast.

It took me a few minutes for it to click, honestly, but the hat gave it away. ^^; Pretty awesome choice! I didn't get Dedede until you pointed it out, myself. I wondered if it was Eggman coat at first.

I am a little surprised we haven't gotten any more Rich Brown quotes since the intro/outros though... I guess because of the musical sound effects, he might not have as many voice clips as other characters maybe? Or maybe they're going in after the music. Hrmm.

Awesome update all in all, though. Yay!

The later, I hope. There’s many stuff that you not notice when you don’t pay attention to it, but every character speaks a lot in this game. During normals, when getting hit, on every super. Of course, there are exceptions like Painwheel who can’t really talk because of the influence of the Skullgirl-Blood and Braindrain’s control, but if you compare it with Street Fighter for example, the Skullgirls do a lot of talking. And I like that, because more opportunities for awesome quotes and the voice actors to shine.

Big Band will get more, don’t worry. I just wait for that glorious "Tuba Tuba Tuba" on the extended Super-Sonic Jazz.

I'm stoked for more BB sayings, the ones he has right now for his intro and outro are great. Really hoping for a few more Cowboy Bebop references XD

A Big O skin, and Cowboy Bebop references? BB is now officially my new favorite character, how much more cool could this guy get?

So we can expect some voice acting soon for Big Band? Cool!

He already has some, though.

I mean like more :P

I really like the win quotes!

Parasoul being able to instant overhead you with j.LP seems so hard to deal with. cr.MK loses to it and dash punch seems to go under it half the time. :(

Well he certainly has some options. A-train seems kind of risky. Air throw is another one. Its nothing you can't overcome with a few good reads but it feels like the matchup is in Parasoul's favor.

but what do I know, I've only been playing him a couple of days.

Wouldn't beat extend also work? at least m. Beat Extend?

Beat Extend H tends to run out of invincibility before it hits airborn opponents. Didn't try M.

Literally every character can instant overhead him, not just parasoul.

idk if it would work but M is faster

Yes, but not many jumping light attacks have parasoul's j.LP hitbox. It stuffs a lot of things that work on most other instant overheads.

Good vid! Worth pointing out that taunted super beats Argus? :^)

Thanks Mike. It certainly is nice when you're able to get a taunt in but its pretty dangerous against Peacock.

I believe it will still be Michiru Yamane, yes.

Man, that BGM sounds pretty darn amazing! It's only in Work-in-Progress MIDI form right now, so I can't wait for the finished version. It will no doubt have quite a sexyphone.

... Amazing!

I thought the stage that is to be released alongside Big Band is the huge golden ballroom that can be seen in Parasouls opening? Or are we getting two? Because last time I heard about new stages, the ballroom was supposed to come out next and host the NPC’s from the campaign that didn’t fit in the casino.

But this is... wow... so awesome. Has this Street Fighter’ish-feel with battling under a bridge, but the scenery is so much better. If that fog is completely animated… holy shit. And I just can’t wait to look for all the cool little details in it.

And the music! That’s Big Band, nothing else. I can imagine him playing this theme alone with all the instruments that he has.

So not only am I getting this awesome musical instrument-cyborg that I absolutely love and which is in my Top 3 of all-time favorite fighting game characters already, but also a fitting stage with incredibly good music? Geeze guys, I can’t express my feelings for this. Just too good to be true. But thank god it is.

Big Band theme is super awesome! Definitely my favorite theme in the game now! Streets of New Meridian please take the bench with the number two written on it.

Theme is awesome, especially the beginning. Bridge is an awesome stage idea. Anyone familiar with the Simpsons, will know Bleeding Gums Murphy...who plays sax on a bridge.

Ballroom is for Patron Saint backers, not a character.

I hope that stage is put in soon

How good is Band's neutral game looking? What's the strength of his normals around mid-range, can he play a strong mid-range game or is he a close-range specialist like everybody minus Peacock and Parasol? I want another character that I can put in as a defensive assist if necessary, but I don't want to use Fortune, Filia or Double. If Band doesn't do it for me, I just switch Bella's assist if needed.

His neutral is either real good or real not great depending on whether or not people are blocking. It's sort of tough to land hits without using stuff that's unsafe on block. The best thing I've found is to just fish with gigantic hitboxes like c.HP and Cymbal Clash and hope the opponent runs into them, but that doesn't always work out.

I dont play him, so this is all theory but from what ive seen and played against as well as came up with in training mode and heard from other players:

His air to airs are kinda weak, so... Air to air is super important in sg... So thats a big huge red flag.

His jump is very fast, and having a double jump that is also fast means a lot as far as neutral is concerned. Id go so far as to say its his double jump that is supposed to give him whatever air to air priority that he has. J.mk x 2 is what gives him a lot of his forward mobility... Combine it with an assist for good stuff on occasions.

Poking with his tip range armor followed by an assist seems to be the most common way to play his general neutral. Plane seems like a good assist for this.

All in all he seems like he would have a feel like doubles neutral game without Luger or cats or a good air to air, but instead having armor poke, a run and a very fast single jump.

His fast single jump is the thing that i personally have found to be the biggest boon to his neutral game. Kinda like how vals run is so important to her neutral game (to convert assist hits) big bands single jump is the thing that makes him an aggressive character imho. And when the opponent starts to key on his jump, big band has a run on the ground followed by a good cr.lk,cr.mk to pull the opponent close, or cr.lk,cr.mp x 2 for a safeish easy hitconfirm. And if the opponent starts to key on stopping his approach totally he can parry through and make them hesitant to try such things... Allowing him to aggro with the j.lk

Those are my observations from playing tomo a few games and using BB in training mode. Take it with a huge grain of salt. :)

If assisted it isn't TOO bad, Big Band can certainly throw things out and even from fullscreen he is just a kara HP brass away, just always be aware that if your opponent is used to the matchup and blocks you fullscreen, pretty much everything you throw out is going to get you punished.

His Pressure is actually pretty ok, with annoying jump strings into cymbal or delayed cymbal, ground string into Giant Step/Sweep.

Basically, I rarely feel like I'm in that situation where I just feel TOO pressured like I do with Painwheel/Squigly for example, so in that send, Big Band is pretty good at least, at keeping the opponent's pressure honest, though usually he only forces the situation back to neutral or a bit of screen space and advantage. So playing a "solid" Big Band I think is a little bit weak, you need to call your opponent out every now and then with a knuckle or something, but don't make that the basis of your game because you will just get punished, instant overhead reset and killed.

Parrying well is hard in SG and is generally more of a callout prediction than an extra defensive option. I've struggled with using parries defensively in SG, such as to defend resets or out of PBGC, I've found most of my successful parries have come from baiting my opponent into returning pressure after a short pressure string myself.
