Street Fighter 4

Still no character reveal? Alright, nothing to see here.
It'll be around Christmas I feel. Maybe Valentines day, if it is released in March. That'd be the best way to kick up activity for it.

I'm waiting on the new mode actually, because unless Victor Ortega gets in, or Retsu gets in, I just don't care about the new character because Elena and Rolento are in.

Its funny. Street Fighter is such a ubiquitous series, but I can never find a character I like to use in it. Even with the massive roster of SF4.

I'll probably still get Ultra whenever its on a steam sale next year.

I think Kart Fighter's gonna end up a lot more official.

Oh yeah, apparently #4ThePlayers is Sony Europe's marketing campaign for PS4. Could mean something big.

Also, it has a website.

I love how this affects vortex, but I also worry a out how this hurts wake up pressure in general for the characters that are based in that. I am a big fan of meaty normals so I don't know how much this will change it up. Cool anti-vortex mechanic regardless.

Ibuki is getting weaker and weaker the more USFIV news are being revealed lol

#13 I've used Cammy since 2Turbo... This Delayed Wake up and Red Focus nearly kill my game with her. Depending on the DWU mechanics, I didn't see anything on that. The Red Focus depends on meter, so that's a hit or a miss.

With Oni, I'm a weeeeee bit worried, but not as much as I am with Cammy. Or Dan.

Might as well post the details about USFIV currently here courtesy of DM|Zhi

• Double W Ultra combo will only do 60% at the time of the Beta test.

• Red Focus costs 2 bars. Producers wanted to help the charge characters, and give a better chance with new Red Focus cancel combo system.

• You can now combo red focus cancel into crumple. E.g. Ryu st. hp -> cancel red focus level 1 (crumple) -> ultra = combo.

• Red focus was suggested during AE, and Capcom thought it was a cool idea and implemented it for Ultra.

• There are 3 different levels of Red Focus. It can take up to double digit hits.

• [Beta test] Red focus, if EX canceled from a move will crumple even on level one.

• There's no visual cue for delayed timing, at time of beta, but they are thinking of it. Producers thought untechable knockdown was too strong.

• The command for Red Focus is (MK+MP+any other attack button). Costs 2 meters.

• Poison's Ultra comes from SFxT, and a new one that comes from Final Fight revenge. It will make you go "ah"!

• Hugo and Elena's Super/Ultra moves are variations of their SF3 super arts. Rolento's moves carries over .

• All 4 new characters will play very differently from SFxT. Hugo is the hardest to balance. With lack of parry, he's either too strong or too weak.

• Producers felt attackers had too much advantage in previous versions. They've given defensive players more tools now.

• They want to put in visual animation for delayed timing, so the player knows that they've inputted it correctly. But they don't want for the opponent to react to it. So they are still considering making a delayed wakeup animation, but none for beta yet.

• No release date on console version. They are discussing it internally at the company (both US and JP).

Elena:
Previously, Elena did not retain many options off of her low attacks, despite having great normals. According to ComboFiend, the development team has addressed this issue, and in Ultra Street Fighter 4, she will be a "fun, mid-ranged character," with an up-close, high / low mix up game.

Rolento:
Rolento has been known to be equipped with ways of controlling space both offensively and defensively. His movement and style are being preserved in USF4.

Hugo:
ComboFiend notes that each of the grapplers in SF4 have a distinct style, (i.e. Zangief has combos, T. Hawk has air control, etc.) Hugo's strength will lie in his corner pressure.

Poison:
Poison's playstyle will differ from her Street Fighter X Tekken incarnation. In SFxT, she was equipped with all the tools she needed to play at any range, but did not have much damage output. According to the blog, that won't be the case this time around, as she will have tools to play up-close, but will still be able to battle projectile characters at mid-range.

Pretty worried that they're going to end up gutting rushdown entirely.

I'm more worried when the fith character will be revealed it'll just be someone anticlimatic.
Knowing the fans, they will say its anticlimactic even if its a really hype one.

People who are within the 'inner circle' already know who the 5th character is.

Rumors been circulating is that the 5th character will be a Shadowloo Doll character.

Edit: Would prefer Tom personally to be the pseudo replacement for Alex and further the bridge of SFIV > SF III

A doll huh? A new one obviously.....well true or not only time will tell.

Oh fuck no.
Anything but that.
I dont know, I wouldnt mind seeing the doll with the mask and claws.

What of the official statement that the 5th character was someone that has never been part of the SF universe (and not Haggar and Asura who have been explicitly denied)? I think SF NPCs are off the table then. Wouldn't surprise me if it's some lame cross-promo like Cole in SFxT. Jubileus save us!
But then again, I think I remember Sentinel being explicitly deconfirmed for MvC3 and Nobunaga not appearing in Sengoku Basara 3.
Capcom thinks bullshitting people is a legitimate "hype building" method. >_>

Named after the 13th month of the year. :3

I'm more interested in knowing if those 3 empty spaces in the character select screen are going to get filled or not.

The clues for 5th character are as follow:

1. The character is a 'Natural Fit' for the SF universe (Suggests 5th character may have connections to other SF characters and/or aesthetic/gameplay is very SF like)

2. The character is 'very much related to Street Fighter' (Rules out random crossover characters)

3. 5th character never been featured in a past Street Fighter game before and will be making their fighting game debut (Rules out playable Final Fight picks like Haggar, Rival School picks like Batsu/Kyosuke, and other past playable SF character picks like Alex, Karen, etc)

All that really leaves us is either a separate new character for the SF universe (Like with Rufus, C. Viper, El Fuerte, etc) or some NPC who was behind the scenes in the SF lore that never really had a playable spotlight. (Like Goutetsu, Tom, Dorai, etc)

Knowing the fans, they will say its anticlimactic even if its a really hype one.

Of course they will! Over a decade begging for R. Mika and Karin to return, and the similar movement repeats itself with Alex and Q, yet capcom just say Q is a dead horse, Karin require copyright (that shouldn't even be that expensive) and shut their trap about the rest.

It is NOT WHAT WE WANTED already. And I don't trust present capcom to positively surprise anyone. Anticlimactic by default.

see what I mean?

Whether I'll like the 5th character or not will solely depend if I...well, like it or not but I do see where DukeMagus is coming from. Capcom constantly BSs people. MvC3 is a perfect example. When vanilla MvC3 came out, Capcom was quick to shoot down a lot of hypothesis:
- No Nemesis/Jedah/RE monster because they would boost the rating
- No Strider because copyright issues
- No Phoenix Wright because it's impossible to put him in a fighting game while maintaining the "essence" of the game he comes from
- No Ghost Rider because he's a, and these were Seth Killian's EXACT WORDS, "punchy dude"
They're all in UMvC3. Meanwhile, people begging for any form of Megaman and he was THE top voted character got tons of MM references in the game (stages, endings, etc) but not the character. I'm no fan of the Blue Bomber but even I think that was spiteful.

Sure, two different games, two different teams but pretty much every fanbase of a Capcom series had to deal with their half-truths and whatnot. Like Super TOTALLY being the last iteration of SFIV.

I only bought Super and skipped AE (Capcom pretty much cherry-picked the 4 worst characters I could ask for, competitive viability not withstanding) but I am interested in getting Ultra. I've wanted Rolento, Elena, Hugo and Poison in the game (in fact, I as expecting most of them in AE) and since I skipped SFxT, it works out for me.

Karin and Mika are sort of becoming the Megamen of SF in terms of only receiving pseudo-acknowledgement that, at most, only gets the fans more riled up (Kuma cosplaying Mika, anyone?).
Personally, the characters I'd love to see returning are Q, Karin, Alex, Sodom and Eagle.
If that's not happening but we can get a SFverse NPC, my vote is definitely for Tom.

well, I'm more one to have unpopular opinions in general.

And I dont see why Kuma cosplaying as Mika was a bad thing. Most of the time Kuma is a funny character and him cosplaying a character known for an outlandish wrestling design got a good chuckle out of me.

adding to:
yes, and its been almost 3 years since mahvel was released, and Capcom has gone through a lot of restructuring since then. they've long since abandoned the DLC shenanigans (it ended with Dragon's Dogma) and now it feels like its starting to get right back on track. I feel the SF4 series is the better out of all recent fighters, and hope Ultra is gonna be the hypest shit.

"Kumika" wasn't a bad thing by itself but I can see how it might have rubbed some folks the wrong way. Per instances, Juri got a nice Zafina-inspired costume and as much as I like it, it also reminds me I'd much prefer to have Zafina as a playable character. Not going to cry foul over it, of course.
Like BBA Megaman. A lot of MM fans were genuinely offended by it but Keiji Inafune was in on the joke and well approved it. Some things just get misinterpreted due to circumstances.

I hope you are right about Capcom because part of me feels they just never learn. Though they did seem to have learned that outsourcing to mediocre developers doesn't work so that's certainly something. I don't like seeing them as "just another developer" when I have my PS2 collection reminding me of how great they used to be and how the prospect of Capcom announcements was always something I looked forward to.
Their obsession with "winning over the Western market" and making it rain like Activision damn near killed them while they, in turn, killed most of the things that made them so great. Like how Konami became the company that only puts out MG and CV, Capcom is almost close to be the company that only puts out SF and RE (in terms of in-house development. Japan also has MonHun and Basara), which is a crying shame when they have so many good IPs. Personally, I think they could make a killing on this fad of indie-esque digital titles. With their IPs and their resources, the sky's the limit. But I do mean in-house development, not stuff like Duck Tales Remastered or the upcoming Strider Remake (not that I'm questioning their quality).

As for the shenanigans? We'll see how they are on DLC but as a Sengoku Basara fan, I can say they started milking on that front with retailer pre-order bonus costumes (that are basically fan-service heavy texture swaps). Though, to be entirely honest I can't complain about that. If anything, as I'll be importing the game, I hope the DLC is nothing but small fries like that.
But perhaps the thing I really hope they finally dropped is their habit of telling people to buy their "HD" (Protip, Capcom: upscaling it doesn't make it HD) rerererererere-release so they might think about greenlighting a new title (Darkstalkers Resurrection comes to mind). I understand they need to get a feel of market interest but IMHO that's not the way. They have to take chances every now and then. Practically every person that left (Inafune is the most glaring case) or even folks who do work there (Ono and Kobayashi), have said how the company stifles creativity and just wants to push for sequels.

If I'm constantly bitching about Capcom, it's because I care. Case in point, no one will ever hear me say a word about Squenix. :3

if you've seen my posts here, you would know I don't care about pre order cosmetics stuff. by all means give us cool costumes to give us insentive to pre-order. The best thing we should do is give Capcom more chances to try and wow us and if we don't theres other games we can look forward to. Like I said, I feel the main Street Fighter games are on the right track and lets hope they can restructure themselves with some great titles. (begging for a Dragon's Dogma 2)

You and me both. Was so freakin' disappointed to see the new DD game was a Vita card game. :/
It's not just a Capcom thing, but I gotta agree with folks who say they're tired of getting hyped over copyright registrations only for like 90% of them being cellphone games and whatnot.

Anyway, despite my many many complaints over DD, I freakin' love it. Lots of good ideas, it just needs some polishing and a system that can keep up it with (Take a Mystic Knight and a Sorcerer to enter bullet time!). I hope 'deep down' doesn't replace it though I can see Capcom doing it if the game sells well in both Japan and the West.

Loc footage on Poison and Rolento

Character balance changes can be found here at Ehubs and SRK

Both change lists not 100% identical so I suggest looking at both.

I'm pretty happy with the Juri changes especially with EX Senpusha having more invincibility now.

Supers and Ultras!

Super: Spinning Beat
Ultra 1: Brave Dance
Ultra 2: Healing

Super: Hammer Mountain
Ultra 1: Gigas Breaker
Ultra 2: Megaton Press

Super: Thunder Whip
Ultra 1: Love Storm
Ultra 2: Poison Kiss

Super: Mine Sweeper
Ultra 1: Patriot Sweeper
Ultra 2: Take No Prisoners

Ultra 1: Gigas Breaker
Scrub can't standing 720. (Me neither.)

Overall, it's what I think most of us expected, right down to how they got assigned. This is still a WIP, but I hope they give Supers a bit more pizazz. Poison's in particular since atm it looks more like a EX.
Also a bit surprised her Ultra 2 wasn't cheesecake pictures of her flashing on the screen and kill the opponent by weirdest boner. They did say it would be familiar to Final Fight Revenge, right?

Speaking of which...

Actually, Poison's U2 has the same name as her Revenge super. I guess that it's supposed to be the same attack but they just replaced the picture cut-ins with a kick to the groin.

For some reason, these supers and ultras look kinda... bad.

I'll admit I was expecting more than just the SFxT ones for some Ultras, but at least none of these change the way the character plays or has played. I for one welcome our self healing Elena overlords.

I'm surprised they even remembered final fight revenge.

It's less flashy looking, sure, but there's a certain level of meta involved with this that I find hilarious.

That's only the EX version, and it's jump cancelable on hit but not on block. Also note that regular Fukiage was already jump cancelabe which is how you get her corner combo into EX axe kick (Tsurugi).

Welp, back to not touching Makoto then.

EDIT: This loketest footage from Super Arcade this weekend sure makes it look like EX Fukiage is jump-cancelable on block, though. Still, if it's only the EX version that connects from the ground, my hype levels are severely decreased.
