Anime/Manga General Discussion

I'm detecting Shizuo levels of vending machine throwing.

tumblr_nurhhejxfT1uyzeoso1_500.gif

She is as beautiful as a Butterfly and as vicious as a Bull-Shark.
Not trying to nitpick but Shizuo's vending tosses are not as graceful as these. He's got more raw emotion behind it while Tio is, I feel, very much in control of her strength and she's doing her duty like a professional.

considering Tio's normal thing is setting up barriers for operations, it makes sense she's throwing the vending machine to be a wall, not to hit her target.

That's my point. I'd bet Tio could actually land a vending machine against Izaya with her control.

I sure would love my scarlet eyed caramel blonde being animated.

but that all depends on who is animating it,
I hope it's Bones or MadHouse.

sorry for double posting in the thread again, but since the season of MonMusu ended, I just wanted to share my thoughts

a very good adaptation of the manga. the characters were all well designed and coloration was fantastic. the animation in general was really good, though it kida seems like they stumbled a bit on the last episode, but it was only for the first half.

I'm a little sad Polt never got any screentime, but everything else from the manga was adapted pretty one for one as well.

also, the voice casting was fantastic. all the voice actresses and actor were really spot-on to their characters.

I hope we get a second season. it's not very often that ecchi harems get to be successful as Musume.
definitely one of my animes of the summer.

I've yet to see last ep
I don't want it to end ;-;
then buy the blu-rays.
support the series.
and then, only then, can we get the ending.

I had/have a rough day today. There is this song I can't correctly remember, only beggining off it. I think it's from an opening. But I don't know what anime it's from.

It's driving me crazy. Just wanted to say that.

Wonder if there'd be anything interesting next season.

Are there any animes you guys could recommend?

I've already watched all of that friend, but thanks for the recommendation.

The good stuff.
Fooly Cooly to start. It's short and sweet. If you haven't already seen it Gurren Lagaan. Obviously Cowbooy Beebop is a must recommend and Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood as well. Got anything specific you're looking for? Romance, sci-fi, fantasy?

All fantastic picks (emphatic two thumbs up for FMA:Brotherhood. Avoid its predecessor, though!). Here's some recent favorites:
  • SHIROBAKO - an anime about anime for anime fans
  • Gatchaman Crowds - genre swerve: you think it will be about superhero squad fighting aliens-- nope! more about technology, philosophy, and society
  • Shin Sekai Yori (From the New World) - the best anime of 2013

I'm pretty sure everyone here has tons they could recommend. I just went for some good entry level stuff since I don't know your background with the medium. I could also recommend a crapton of movies if you're interested.

I've watched JoJo's (caught up on the manga as well), Madoka, Tsukihime (didn't like the adaptation, but the vn is alright), Squid Girl, Sailor Moon and Sailor Moon Crystal, the first season of Black Butler (disliked it a great deal), Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Gurren, FlCl, Requiem From the Darkness, Girls Bravo, Carnival Phantasm, Kill La Kill, and K-on.
There's more I'm sure, I just can't remember.
I could list all the manga I've read if you want.

EDIT: Forgot that I watched Space Dandy

Tiger & Bunny
Gintama
Polar Bear Cafe
Slayers
Monster Musume (y'know, if you in the ecchi mood)
Toradora
Ore Monogatari/My Love Story
Samurai Flamenco

Also Magika Madoka. That's a must see in my book if you want great character drama and storytelling.

Seirei no Moribito/Guardian of the Spirit is a really underrated series that you might want to check out.
It's got a very interesting story and world, a notably strong female protagonist, excellent animation, and overall strong writing. It's a bit slow-paced though, so I'd tell you going to not expect a lot of high speed action.

I can recommend Princess Tutu that hasn't been recommended yet.

The Fate/ serie is pretty swell to, however, there is different ways how you should start watching/reading the serie, just start somewhere that isn't made by Studio Deen.

You have probably seen Neon Genesis Evangelion been reccomended many times on other sites (and maby here). While I think it's an OK serie (the TV serie and EoE movie), I hate the majority of that fanbase (pls, don't become a hardcore fan and start bashing people becous they don't think it's the best serie ever made and etc.). btw, if you havn't watched evangelion yet. Pls, watch Gunbuster first (only 6 episodes). I think I don't know anyone that saw Gunbuster before Evangelion. Could be interesting.

I also recommend Eureka Seven, keep in mind, AO isn't a sequal. Don't watch AO unless you see it as a spin off serie.

Monster (not Musume) is a must IMO.

You could also check out Death Note, I only recommend the 25/26 first episodes however. If you want to watch the rest then sure. but it will probably be your only time then.

Code Geass is a favorite of mine. My biggest complain about it is some BS reasons in season 2 (and the pizza fillers).

Hunter X Hunter (2011) is one off THE best shonen battle series ever created. However, the ending might be very unsatisfied.

And while speaking about Hunter X Hunter, I think Yu Yu Hakusho is still good today.

I think I'm done with series now.

You should also watch movies. Ghibli is ghibli, you will most likely like them all (except Earthsea). Then we have the "mantatory" movies "you must watch", which are Akira, Ghost in the shell, Paprika, Perfect Blue and some more I forgott. And I'm soo sorry I havn't watched it yet, but I think Redline is also a must.

People tend to have different tastes to me, but everyone else is making suggestions so I figured I would as well. The two works I normally suggest to people if I don't know what they like are the OVA Denpa Teki na Kanojo and the movie Sennen Joyuu (a.k.a. Millennium Actress).

EDIT: I should probably add that Denpa Teki has some nsfw content in it, but it's not at all pornographic or ecchi.

Speaking of recommendations. I feel like I've done you all a disservice by not mentioning a manga series that's top shelf; Shiori Experience. The story follows 27 year old Shiori Honda who is a high school english teacher and very plain. Her life is pretty empty until one night she finds herself haunted by the ghost of none other than legendary rock guitarist Jimmy Hendrix as part of some contract she didn't make. Regardless of who made the pact though, Shiori has to complete the other end of the contract, and become a rock legend before her 27th year on earth is up otherwise...you can probably guess. Great art, I love Shiori as a character, and my god if this doesn't make you want to listen to some music I don't know what manga series will.
She goes from this...

Seen madoka, and thank you for the recommendations.
if you like Madoka Magika, then check out Gargantia of the Verdurous Planet.
Urobuchi did both shows. and it's a bit of a mecha.

Monster (not Musume) is a must IMO.
YES!
WATCH
MONSTER!

I can't believe I forgot about this!
it's like, one of the best suspense thrillers. so many twists and turns. lovable characters. AMAZING dub.
watch Monster.

watch monster so that an attractive hobo can try and force soy sauce on to your lifestyle

also a really nice man teaching your children wholesome and safe games.

and let us not forget Dieter.
I love Dieter.
best kid.

Just gonna throw Black Lagoon and Azumanga Daioh in there as a recommendation. Older and quite popular, but if you haven't seen them, there ya go. Oh, and I will be very interested in One Punch Man debuting this season. It looks as over the top ridiculous as I'm hoping.
