Project Annie...In Motion!

Heck, I didn't notice it until someone pointed it out to me.
The lack of everything on her?

Nah, just the leg thing.

Quick update: cleaner version...(still needs to be cleaned more)

You know, I should actually get to doing my stuff more...

I, and I'd imagine the rest of us, appreciate your sheer dedication to this amazing cause.

For those who haven't listened to it yet: V1 of Annie's Theme for the game.

EDIT: I did NOT write this piece. Any music I make for the Annie fangame will most likely be alt tracks to @Night Phyre's work. I'm just helping out to make an all-chiptune alternative to the OST.

I wish I had stuff to show off, but I don't have an artistic bone in my body.
@Skullmageddon, @Karlaaldana, and @DDB I hope you appreciate what you have.

I know this will sound wierd but I wish we could team up to make all the required Annie stuff to create an entirely' fan made Skullgirls character, even her voice actress and sound effects...I'm maybe being too ambitious but if Annie had a larger fanbase(and a dedicated team of artists animators etc..) we could pull it off.
(of course under the supervision of lab zero in order to put out a quality product.. Maybe they could provide with more move descriptions or motion sketches to get this proyect to take off)

I'm okay with this, but we'd all have to be under the agreement that this is all a labor of love, and that we will most likely not see a penny from any of this. That being said, if everyone's still determined to bring Annie to life, maybe we can draft a petition to have her included. However, the petition should be put in motion IF AND ONLY IF we have the necessary manpower to make her a thing.

Addendum: Also, I believe the average character has 1,500+ frames of animation, so if we do move forward with this, this needs to be kept in mind. While we're at it, we also need people with a good eye to determine hitboxes and stuff.

That's a huge undertaking, but if everyone decides to get together and try it then I wish you all the best of luck.

I'll be cheering for you all on the sidelines.

I absolutely LOVE the idea of Annie, the character with the biggest fanbase in story, actually being created by Skullgirls fans. I don't know how far it is in the realm of possibility but it makes for a sweet story.

In any case I'm all for more fanart, animation and games made in her honor.

If it takes 1 or 2 years.. so be it!, I'm confident that this is actually possible to make with a determinated enough group of people with time.. it could be doable.
(If we lack the talent that should be obvious with the first attempt at organizing this proyect... and we should probably stop..
If we lack artists we could start donation pools over deviantart or somewhere to "hire" an animatior, artist, designer...I bet many people would help with the cause.)

It's just wishfull thinking by my part but.. somewhere in my mind want it to be true.

Honestly guys, for the amount of effort making a new character takes, I feel like your energies would be better spent helping LabZero directly. Art-wise, I bet they could really use that free labor to get some of Robo-Fortune's frames prepared.

Honestly, I've got no interest in money.

Streets of Rage took 8 years to make, and I found out about them halfway through the dev process (2008). That was also a labor of love, and since we're just theoretically making a character, as opposed to a game, we can get it done. Hell, I'll even volunteer to contact Alex and see what he thinks. If we're gonna do this, we may as well contact him and at least let him know what we want to do. Who knows? He might actually give us a shot.

I certainly don't think he'd say no. Heck, he'd probably supply the necessary material for stuff we're not sure on.

Let's not get too excited with this conversation.. This is just theorizing, not untill more opinions and info from the comunity and especially the people who is making real progress' like skullmageddon, and of course Lab zero-Mike Z speaks about the possibility of really happening.

For now.. let's pause this excitement in hold shall we?

dedication to a cause
godspeed, star warriors

Aren't there legal issues though?

I know there is no money involved in this but still...

If this were a thing, Lab Zero would most likely need to retain creative control, simply because Annie is theirs.

Oh Jeezus here we go...

So the only way this can happen is with direct support from Lab Zero. They need to be in complete control over the character design and implementation because it is their character. There would also need to be enough artists that are willing to volunteer their time and efforts for the cause, yet at the same time this group would have to be a select few so that the project can be properly managed. There would be no money involved and people would have to be completely okay with this.

That being said, even though I am completely opposed to working for free, I would gladly help lead the cause. I know that the good people over at Lab Zero are in a bit of a financial bind at the moment. I also love the game dearly and hope to see it grow over the years. If I can help out in some way then I would love to, but since I'm not rich-as-fuck the only way I can really help is by possibly providing some of my skills and knowledge. If we can get a big ol' "OK" from LabZ then I'll join forces to animate Annie.

Only when Annie is fully in the game can we finally, really say that W E M A D E I T

Even if you don't make money, being a part of this project can definitely get your name out there, even to Lab Zero.

Just a quick update.. I made some shading and light layers on photoshop..
I'm sure I like the results but here are two of the methods I used to do it.

1: Basic 1 tone of shading layers.

2: applied to the color layers.

3: Other method of layer fusion..

Me gusta :3

I still have to try some more methods of doing her shading... in one hand looks too bright and in the other ..looks too opaque but I like the way the color blends..

Lookin' good!

This is what's nice about Annie fans. We like to GETSHITDONE.
I also learned how much time one frame of animation could take...estimate since it actually lacks another 2 layers of shading.. but it's great to GETSHITDONE!

I'm just going to throw this out there.
The Z engine (as far as I know) handles all of the shading and coloring dynamically, so it's probably a good idea to save your flats too...just in case this does actually make it in.
'sat right , @Mike_Z ?

Don't worry, I'm making all by separate layers...

It doesn't handle ALL of the shading dynamically, just stage specific highlights I believe. Take the following for example...
Painwheel-gif-skullgirls-31453142-454-437.gif

All of the shading and general highlights are done by hand for each frame, so most of the darks n' lights aren't dynamic. What IS dynamic are highlights that are stage or move specific, such as the light blue highlights in the Casino or the light that emanates from Leviathan's flame.

@CapnWTF Yup.. I'm pretty much making the shading and highlights by hand.

To go back on the reverse grip thing, maybe Ven from Kingdom Hearts could also be taken into account, since he fights reversed and his default Keyblade also has an uncentered hilt.
