Hey guys.

Just posted a small blog post detailing a change we had to make to the game, which will be rolling out in the Fukua patch.


Give it a read and share your thoughts.

And if you're unhappy about it, I do ask that you not berate Marvelous or the Red Cross online. We're all frustrated by this, and doing that isn't going to help.

I dunno, I actually really like the pink crosses. I mean, yeah it kinda hurts that Val, Parasoul and Illeum have to get their looks changed over legal things, but I'm sure the changes will still look good, especially if it's just a (relatively) minor change like the crosses.

Plus, the less strain for you guys, the better, right?
 
I think it would look better if it matched her hair -- BCBS logo is nothing like that
Or was white
Or really any other color

being also valentine related, would painwheel palette #8 have to get a change too?
 
It appears to be something out of your hands and creating friction with publishers would certainly be unwise.
Can't say I don't find this frustrating but making concessions is a part of the business world. Sometimes yielding is a necessity.

Just seems weird that it's not even the Red Cross that is making a fuss out of this...

didn't the same thing happen to Bungie and Halo health packs?

In halo 1 they were crosses but then they got changed to a big red "H" in Reach.

edit: checking Halopedia, that's what happened.
 
I mostly use Silent Hill Nurse Val so I'm meh to this.
If it prevents even more legal stuff from pouncing on you guys, go ahead.

It's too bad, though. I liked red on the crosses.

I hope this fushia color won't be so flashy in game, should be darker/colder.
 
Wow, I didn't really know that a red cross on a white background even could be copyrighted. I thought it was like a publicly usable symbol. I don't like that they can ask you to change it, but it's such a minor change that it doesn't really matter. The purple on the legs though looks really awkward to me.
 
dark brown or dark blue might be a better choice, i can see brown working better for ileum, pink may look a little out of place on her.
 
I thank whoever was bold enough to sub Polnareff as Polnareff after hearing things like this. It's like everything has a copyright, and worse, the lawyers that enforces these things.

But I'm okay with it, again, it's time to make working on SG a little bit easier, I feel bad for you guys, I kinda want to donate more, at least for some sugary stuff.

I don't mind.
But I do dread the future where ideas won't be a thing anymore.
 
Fucking hilarious.

Not digging the new colour, woulda preferred something darker, ie black or a dark blue like her hair, or even just dark purple instead of this pinkish tone
But I don't play Val and I sure don't use the default colour, so whatevers
 
This is honestly unfair, in my opinion, but if the law says so, then the law says so. I mean, if they want to copyright a tragedy such as war, then so be it.
And I like DDB's idea a hell of a lot! Blood-orange!

It's final.

We had to get the color approved by MAQL and Sony, and we've already edited all of the story mode art. And we're not doing that again. :P

And I think it's less glaring in-game. We tried a lot of different things, including oranges and blues and greys before settling on this.

Parasoul and Ileum got their looks changed? How so? I never noticed...

I don't really like the new colour, but it might be ok in-game and I don't use the default palette anyway. I'm more annoyed at the change having to be made in the first place than the colour she's going to have. Copyright law is silly and needs to be changed.

In particular, any instances of red crosses on a white background must be changed. So in addition to Valentine’s default palette, Ileum in the Lab 8 background, Parasoul palettes 4 and 11, as well as any story art containing Valentine all have been changed.

Specifically, The Parasoul colors being changed are the white shirt and black skirt/hair original and the Mitsuru palette.

What would have to be changed about it? I wouldn't change the law for one character, because I thought of that at first lol.
I mean imagine Copyright Act of 1973, sub-section Valentine of Lab Zero v. Red Cross of the Geneva Convention.
 
as i said, this isn't the first time its happened to other games. it happened to halo reach a few years back.

and it probably won't be the last time either: arc systems put red crosses on faust's sleeves on his new model in GGXrd.

and will valentine's gallery art need to be changed too?

If Arc is based in Japan, can't they avoid being touch or does Red Cross have a global copyright in place.
