Skullgirls Lore Speculation

Hey does anyone remember when Mike Z mentioned that very early on in development, Skullgirls was gonna have two big boss fights? I always thought that Peacock was going to be one of the Boss fights based off really early lore
No, I think Double or Val were gonna be boss characters.

A lot of Peacock's old concept art painted her as a much more malicious figure than her final iteration, alongside aging her up into her late teens. Supplemental story info from this time paints her as mentally scarred from her experiences as a slave. Her hatred of her slavetrader captors appears psychotic in nature, as she is mentioned to even toy with her victims before killing them. Her concepts show her as a powerful entity capable of flight, controlling hundreds of Argus eyes at once, and amassing armies of 8bombs to do her bidding; a far cry from the comical and impromptu fightstyle of modern Peacock.

Mike first showcased Skullgirls publicly in late 2010, during which he explained Reverge Lab's plans for the game. He said that the final game would likely have 8-10 characters, and two bosses.

We only ended up getting Marie in the final game, but I have a feeling that Peacock might have been the other boss at some point in development. The concept art above paints her and Marie as two opposite sides of the same card, after all.

They come from a timeline of total darkness.

I guess she was originally supposed to represent the victory-at-any-cost "we must defeat skullheart by making a monster WORSE than the skullgirl" line of thinking the ASG labs were originally meant to follow.

i guess Brain Drain and his crew now represent that belief with Lab 8 being different and trying to fix things with a more ethical form of strange super science.

Yup! that's what I'm talking about!

I went to the Skullgirls WMG TVTropes page and I found a golden theory.

Krieg is also an Expressive Accessory
Like Vice Versa, Krieg is a living weapon that reflects the user's emotions, and for Parasoul they are mostly repressed tears. We know she's secretly a softy prone to fainting from stress. Even if she hides itwell, the mess her family and kingdom are in are taking their toll.

This is so sad and has a lot of ground in canon.

Sorry to double post but I had a big rant on Lorenzo.

Shit, now that I think about it. Lorenzo’s actually a really interesting villain.

Since the Medici family were the original settlers? (Or natives? I can’t remember) and the royal Renoir family basically came in and usurped them, which Lorenzo was still a part of, in fact I think he was the original barer of the name.

He’s lived for as long as the Canopy Kingdom has been around and has been making a nice living for himself with payed off cops. (Shown in Big Band’s story mode), Slave trade (Peacock.) And willing to off ‘allies’ (read: tools) (Squigly’s story mode) for his own good.

Considering story wise so far he’s only there to KICK OFF the story, Lorenzo’s pretty fucking mean and well explained in why he’s such an asshole.

I suspect the Joker is a Gigan. In fact, part human-gigan.
-Gigantic, Disproportionate Arms
-Huge Horns
-Slouching Body

Sorry that this is kinda out of no where but I want to talk about Fukua for a bit. I am not going to take credit for this idea, as I got this idea from someone on Youtube and sorta built off of it (I cannot recall the name). I think Fukua is actually just Filia's inner desire to be more dominant. If you notice Filia is somewhat a shy character who generally is kind to the point where she is willing to endure an impulsive parasite and sacrifice for a girl she doesn't even remember. In contrast we have Sampson who is very rude and insensitive. He often treats Filia with little respect by talking over her, ignoring her, and even sometimes making decisions for her. Filia being naturally kind hearted somehow does not find the strength to confront Sampson's secrecy and rudeness. If you'll notice in comparison to Sampson, Shamone seems to never talk and does not seem to affect Fukua's decision making. Also in contrast to Filia, Fukua stands much more confidently and is generally more sassy (based of Fukua's voice lines). It seems that Fukua trying to "become Filia" is actually Filia's desired alter ego trying to assert herself over Filia's current personality. But Filia like everyone has to awake from her dream and come back to reality, but still even though she awakes from her dream she still only sees herself as a person she isn't.

But yeah. Just a thought.

Fukua is non-canon :(

Fukua herself may be non canon (thus her actions don't affect the story) but I think she was just sorta a symbol of Filia's anxiety and feeling tired of being pushed around.

I'm not sure if this has been stipulated elsewhere, but who or what finally ended Selene Contiello after she became the Skullgirl? Would it be far-fetched to suggest that Black Dahlia successfully ended Selene's reign as the Skullgirl? I mean, logic dictates that Dahlia would've been right there after Selene manifested, and presumably the situation meant that only one of the two would've been able to leave alive.

dialogue seems to indicate that Lorenzo himself also physically fought the Skullgirl

I thought it was Squigs who fought her. Although Dahlia and possibly Lorenzo might make some sense...

But wasn't Squigly already killed? She hadn't been touched by Leviathan yet.

It's pretty strongly implied Leviathan connected with her when she was being reanimated by Skullgirl!Selene and helped put down her mother.

Well it was shown that Leviathan saved Squigly's "life" but I don't remember when it was ever implied that the two fought Skullgirl Selene. Either way It's not very clear.

Maybe that's why when she was buried she was already with Leviathan.

I dunno if anyone threw out this Robo-Fortune headcanon, but, here goes.Robo-Fortune was built by the Medicis to permanently get rid of Ms. Fortune, kinda like a Skullgirls version of why Eggman built Metal Sonic.

Bit of a copy paste from the Eliza forum. During the EVO panel, Eliza's story mode came up:

Eliza's story mode is going to be gigantic and heavily steeped in lore. It's estimated to be 50% longer than any previous story with massive amounts of lore built in and far less nebulous hints. For those waiting for more concrete answers about the many mysteries about the world of Skullgirls, this is your port of call. As Eliza is such a central figure to the SG universe and one of Alex's favorite characters, he's making sure a lot of detail is covered.

I'm guessing one thing that will probably be covered is that massive theonite reading that Big Band felt under the Casino. It seemed a little out of nowhere in his story and likely placed to set up Eliza a bit.

Also Eliza's like a couple thousand years old, she just might know some actual stuff about the Skull Heart, Heck she might have been in the first war over the dang thing. She could spill the beans on the Skull Girl like one of those celebrity gossip magazines. Oh Snap.

HAS BLOODY MARIE BEEN GAINING WEIGHT?! AND IS THE SHOWSTOPPER CEREBELLA HIDING HER OBSESSION WITH CATS? IS SHE A CRAZY CAT LADY?! TURN TO PAGE 16 TO FIND OUT ALL THE JUICY DETAILS!

Huh, it didn't cross my mind that Eliza could be the key to greater lore knowledge.
It makes sense, she is the oldest human character in the roster by at least one thousand years, I think.

I almost want to say something about Annie in relation to this news, but then DDB would take it as shots being fired.

Music.To.My.EARRSSS! Thank you for the info! This makes me incredibly excited to see what's going to happen and what she's tied to. There's just waaaay too much potential with her, as Ninja and Denizen mentioned, she's 1,000 years old. There's so much from her point of view that she's seen, possibly involved with (a couple wars anybody?), and the impact she'll leave since she at one point was planned to be a boss for the future installments.

Guys n' Gals, this is going to be fantastic!

Where have you been?
Eliza was ment to be the boss of the second game, not to mention she's familiar with Samson and Leviathan.

At least on the Skullheart/Samson/Leviathan front. We still aren't sure if the other factors of the Lore do come up. Hopefully the do. I want to learn more about the Medici damnit.

Where have you been?
I was too busy getting hyped over Beowulf 24/7.
Also I always considered Isaac to be the character we need if we ever want more canon info.

Howso? He's more information on a singular thing.
We might get a glimpse into Canopolis but that's about it.

He's the only one who can literally travel through time so we could see, well anything.

Isaac, Aeon...

HAS BLOODY MARIE BEEN GAINING WEIGHT?!
Let's hope so, she's nothing but a sack of bones! :PUN:

Oh boy, Eliza's gonna be our wham episode; More dirt on the parasites, possibly more info on the Medicis as a mob, Big Band getting a huge Theonite reading (surely it couldn't have come from just Vice-Versa), maybe even some finer detail on the inner workings of the Trinity and the Skull Heart.

Plus, it'll nice to finally have Cere be relevant in more than one story.

Actually, going by real world equivalents, she's more likely to be 3000 years old.

I always thought the god characters would bring more to the lore if they ever got through, but I think they'd play more of a part in the proper canon storyline Alex wants to do, rather than having their own little stories. I could even imagine Venus being a boss at some point.

Actually, I think Venus and/or Aeon were gonna be 3rd game bosses.
Eliza would of been the 2n'd game boss.

Speaking of Eliza, since probably hasn't gone by that her entire life, would of her original name been Hathor, maybe Bastet?

To be honest, I'd think Venus would be the boss rather than Aeon, considering her description in the voting page saying something about her growing tired of Mother's plans.
And yeah, I did know Eliza is the second game boss.

I don't find Aeon evil to be honest, even though she was behind the controls the whole time. I don't know why, but that's what I think.

It's because she looks cute and innocent right? We don't know much about the Trinity yet and Alex Ahad likes to keep his characters in moral gray areas, but we know that Aeon and Venus are both causing a lot of pain and suffering with The Skull Heart, especially Aeon because she's behind the controls. For now they're pretty evil in my book.

Aeon ain't evil, she's just indifferent. Which is probably worse. :3

For their boss fight, I'm a supporter of the duo idea. Point Venus and anchor Aeon, both with Ratio 1 stats. If you beat Venus and Aeon manages to get 5 bars, she'll do her "Reload State" super and bring back Venus. Start learning them snapbacks! #FAIR&BALANCED
