Spacewhale's spacey pixel art

The second concept piece is currently the best, I think. Strange as it sounds, at a first glance Samson's eyes and teeth could pass as a hair-band, which serves to give Filia a more innocent and harmless appearance. I think the fedora is an important part of the design, as it covers the teeth.

In regards to the base design, I would recommend discarding either the waistcoat two-button line, or the suspender straps - the entire point of a waistcoat is to hide bulky-looking belts straps from view. Visually, they go together about as well as sandal-socks.

The overcoat is a good thought, but I think it needs more detail before it can really add to the 'evil' look you're trying to build for Filia. Possibly bulking up on the collar/lapels of the coat and adding a few buttons would make it appear more Capone, less cafone. The right choice of color scheme, should you decide to color it, will help too.

Don't forget to change Filia's shoes in the finished copy. As you've shown Filia, she's wearing a very expensive suit - and her regular brown loafers clash with the new outfit. I'd recommend designing a pair of Oxford black-and-white shoes to help complete the composition.

Anyway, firstly I'd echo Psychophant's suggestion of discarding either the waistcoat two-button line or the suspender straps (I'd ditch the later, m'self) as well as give her new footwear.

Personally, I'd suggest pantyhose instead of thigh-high socks and maybe make the coat a furcoat (P4A's Mitsuru could be a good reference but I'm sure there's plenty). Also gloves.
This is a bit more random but I'd give her a ponytail. The idea is that, together with the hat, she doesn't just hide Samson, she restrains him thus giving the idea she's the one in control.
Just my humble two cents. Carry on.

Hoping this is the start of a "alternate universe" set. :3

For evil filia, I want to stress the fact that she's the one in control, and that instead of being pure evil, like most villains, she's a rather cunning and deceitful one, a rather dirty fighter, pretty much how the Medicis are. So rather than relying on her parasite, she decides to bust some skulls herself. Even Samson is scared of her, how terrifying.

I've also considered giving her a -stolen- broadsword as a weapon for her to fight with, what do you think? Although I like the idea of Filia beating some asses just her bloody gloves, the broadsword could bring back the old concept of her being a sword fighter.

A broadsword isn't the most deceitful of weapons IMHO. Just my opinion, but I'd go with a switchblade and a small revolver tucked under her coat sleeve. And a tommy gun - hidden in Samson's mouth.
Just visualize it - Filia flings her hat at the enemy to throw them off, then pulls the tommy gun out of Samson's mouth and bang!bang!bang!bang!bang!bang!bang!
Filia: Merry Christmas, ya filthy animal!

Again, just my two cents. Please don't interpret my brainstorming out loud as imposing. (.__.)

Mind if I ask why a fedora, though? It has always been my opinion that a bowler hat is the most sinister of all hats.

Also, I second the notion that the overcoat isn't really helping with any "evil" impression she might have.
 
Chaos is right about the hat, but I think the overcoat is necessary, as well as the waistcoat and suspenders.

She starts to look too nice as you start removing them, I think "Evil Filia" Should translate directly to "Mafia Filia."
 
i'm with denize on that one... maybe changing the socks could be intresting too. (different pattern or maybe a longer skirt cut at the side... as much as i hate covering the legs, it'd make her look more mature)

and yeah, "evil filia" should be what she becomes if she recovers her memory and decides to take over the medici mafia

I think it helps add more of a subtle malice to her. she isnt bothered or fazed by anything she does.
 
I gotta say, the idea of Evil Filia is really starting to grow on me.

I think Filia & Evil Filia is a lot cooler than Ryu & Evil Ryu.

The contrast on the Pocket fighter rendition seems to be way too low, gotta get that more full dynamic color range.
(also pocket fighter had large hands and feet)

I really liked Alex’s EVO shirt design (which luckily i bought it a while back), so I resprited and shaded it in. I hope he’s okay with it! （　ﾟ Дﾟ）

I tried to make it look similar to a Marvel vs Capcom game in terms of shading/colors (and design kinda).

That looks freakin' amazing. Mighty brave of you to start 2014 in such fashion. You've raised the bar quite highly for yourself now. :P

But if I may make a few observations (that I concede may be erroneous but I'm "side-by-sideying" with the original):
- The right side of Fortune's face there's a flesh colored bit. Shouldn't that be of a dark shade of hair (or the color used in the ears)?
- Parasoul looks like she's giving a villain glare while in the original she's kinda eyeing the viewer. But I should add I prefer your version.
- Should Eliza have colored irises? (in the original, the pupils and irises are distinguished, unlike Bella)
- Eliza needs eyeliner to look more glamorous.

Please don't take my nitpicking the wrong way, I was being quite sincere. As a long time fan of sprite art, it's a amazing piece. OTL

No worries about that little slip. It happens to the best and while I don't count myself among them, I'm quite familiar with the sensation of noticing notorious mishaps only after putting something in display. Murphy's Law.

As for nitpicks, I confess I have the rare habit of making such observations either when folks ask for criticism or, in this case, unsolicited.
But I do so out of a genuine intention to help but am then left wondering if people don't think I'm just being a gratuitous twit. (.__.)

Is this some sort of vague hint that you're looking for sprite artists (maybe for one of those game pitches I keep hearing murmurs about)?

Nah, I just remembered you had said ages ago you would be interested in doing a sort of old style RPG and it really piqued my interest since I hate modern RPGs.
But no, you aren't allowed to just like anything anymore. Of course.
