The Smash Bros Discussion Thread

Rhythm Heaven is a great (and popular) series and I wouldn't even be mad if they include the Chorus Bros/Marshall

Shulk is more wishful thinking, imo.

The Chorus Men feels like the antithesis of Mr. Game and Watch. He's mostly pure white, while Mr. Game and Watch is pure black. Rhythm Heaven has that rubbery cartoon feel to it, while Mr. Game and Watch is all static or whatever. Someone could say something about their sound quality or I don't know, they just feel like opposites.

If the Chorus Men are a thing, I want them to have other characters and items from the various mini-games as attacks and specials. Putting the awesomeness of RH all in one character would be great. Otherwise if I wanted a RH rep, than there is no one I'd want more than...

I love this song, though it does bring up some... memories.
that damn porn parody
so well made
so hilarious at parts

You do know that's fanmade, right?
Yeah, but the song itself is in Rhythm Heaven Fever. That's just a fan-elongated version.

Here's the actual gameplay, and the English version (which is not bad, actually)

you say that like final smashes aren't supposed to be OP
I always thought they were supposed to be powerful enough to give you a distinct advantage but still be reasonable. Tri-directional seems almost undodgable lol.

Magnus footage

-video-
Huh, looks like Magnus is the most "playable character'-esque assist trophy we have so far. I noticed Pikachu jumped off of him at one point, it almost like he has a normal cpu controlling.

Got to try the Smash Bros demos at Best Buy today.

I'm really impressed how smooth the gameplay on 3DS version is (Also the 3DSXL screen looked HUGE so I may consider getting it just for smash....)

The Wii U version definitely felt a lot more different than Brawl (Either it felt slow or I just need to get used to the controls) Also it seemed like it was harder to actually send people flying off the stage even at high damage.

Purple Link is also pretty awesome.

I was going to check out Smash Fest at a Best Buy, but the closest Best Buy (according to the site) doesn't have it.

Drats.

I went into Best Buy....yeah fuck that line. It's not like I wasn't gonna get it anyway or anything.

Megaman vs Bowser match
Someone clarify to me: I heard that dash dancing isn't in Smash 4, but it looked like Megaman was doing it at the beginning of the match and after one of the KOs (though not very well the first time).

So did I hear wrong about dash dancing, or is it just impossible to do consistently?

It's possible, but not very practical I hear.

Just got back, uploading my gameplay videos now.

I played as Sonic twice (gotta get that video for The Sonic Show), Mega Man once and Greninja once.

Sonic is good now. Nice, mid tier, and decent.
Mega Man is fun, but the pro controller made it feel weird and threw me off.
Greninja could be deadly in the hands of a good fighter, though I had a bit of trouble KOing enemies with him in Smash Run... until I discovered you can basically infinite combo with his Down-A divekick over and over.

So Prog held a stream about the invitational and its background.

-Nintendo rep contacted Prog around January asking about people to attend the invitational, though they didn't say anything about the invitational at that time.

-He didn't have any final say in who they picked though.

-Apparently Nintendo knows a lot more about the scene than we think they do, multiple people at Nintendo have been researching (via reddit, smashboards, the facebook groups, etc.) not just a single person.

-A lot of Nintendo reps at the treehouse and even Reggie are impressed with the smash scene and what they do.

-They didn't get to speak to Sakurai, they did make eye contact though!

-Nintendo are aware of P:M, for the most part they're intrigued by it, feels like they're just going to let it be. He got a good vibe.

-Smash 4 is different, not Melee, not Brawl but it's still in alpha and they are looking at some of our responses.

-They were sending e-mails to reps there about changes that would be useful.

-He spoke to PeachyHime and apparently her comment was more about who she was playing with than what she was playing, being the only P:M player there with a bunch of melee and brawl players.

-He thinks the game right now screams for dash-dancing.

-He feels like more Nintendo tournaments might be a thing, a lot of people were ecstatic about how it turned out.

-He does think/hope Nintendo will actually listen to their suggestions.

-Possibility that the invitational build was different to the best buy build, so it all can change.

-Smash 4 is on the cusp of being a great competitive title.

-He doubts Nintendo would try and stop any future Melee events.

-A lot of people were making the suggestions, both at the invitational and on the show floor.

-They didn't get to try much of the game.

-Currently a very ground heavy game, reduced landing lag would improve the aerial game which is hit and miss.

-Doesn't think the new game will hurt the competitive scene as much as brawl.

-New ledge mechanic is going to be really interesting.

In other words, good news all around.

I'm only worried about what changes they might add because of the input.
Because if it makes it more Melee, oh no.

But if not, whatever.

You can do it stupidly fast. Doing it stupidly fast kinda removes the point of it haha. Very low practical use.

I think the only thing that might be more Melee-like is the dashdance window. No need to worry about l-canceling or wavedashing any time soon, I can tell you that.

Yes. It's in all games, but it was most useful in Melee because the window was like half a second or so (iirc), giving a lot of freedom for mixups. Brawl and the current build has only like a quarter of a second at most, making it really impractical to mash teh stick in both directions like that.

Here's two "snippets" of gameplay for my other channel. The full video on my channel will be up later.

Sonic on WiiU

Sonic on 3DS
