The Generically Named Thread Where We Come Up With Ways To Help Skullgirls

Yeah.
I wouldn't even send the Pewdiepie MUGEN character to Pewdiepie, and it's actually a character created by all the hate towards Pewdiepie merged together into one nice big blob full of hateful hatred.

Not to mention the terrible jokes, oh my god.
Markiplier would be better imo.
Mark's ten times nicer, but Pewdiepie's got ten times the subs... (how's that work?) Also, food for thought: He said to NEVER Play flappy bird...

Also, I know that The mods don't like the idea, but why don't we get the cream of Skullheart to create ONE of the characters? Enough people like annie! If you know some coders, talk with me on the Annie thread.

As I've already said, there already IS an effort to animate Annie. It's been going for months and a single animation isn't finished, and that animation is not high enough quality to be added to the game.
If you want to try and arrange it, go for it. I'm never going to try and stop any attempts to help promote the game or fan created content.

Some people over there said there could be legal issues with including a fan character in the game (even if it was pro bono, with consent) would that work out?

Also, if we got some official support, we could maybe get some tips from L0 on how they do it?
(we'd need official support anyways, because otherwise it couldn't be included...)

also, how's L0's budget, anyways? I can't really think anything up to help without knowing price tags...
(I know that you've just started to get money in last June, but that's it)

And furthermore, if we could get something going for the comics (I still think it could work. maybe.), I think you should do one about Samson's old host/Evil Samson, or an expanded Filia story. Those could sell!

Also, as far as PR, I think you guys need to sell the game more to the MVC3 crowd. Most of them ignore the game thanks to Chris G. saying it's **** (Which is why I want to beat him at Evo). But you also need to sell it to the noobs. As much money as anyone gets from competitive players on anything, they make WAY more on casual players. I don't really feel Skullgirls is very friendly to people who are new to fighting games, weather it's the community or the gameplay. If you guys can make Beowulf or Robofortune noob-friendly, that would help a ton!

They don't have a budget. That's the point of this thread - ideas for the community to help promote SG, not the internal team.
They're currently working from Indiegogo funds at reduced salaries. I wouldn't count on additional funding from sales of the games as going to much besides paying general overhead costs for the team.

Since realistic and stupid ideas are in high demand today I'll share a thing I've been doing to help a bit that fits.

I've been using the Steam Market to buy Team Fortress 2 Killstreak Fabricators to build them into kits and selling them for Steambucks profit and then buying copies of Skullgirls to give out to interested people. Considering that I'm selling not real cosmetic items for a free to play video game, it's actually kinda profitable. I bought around 45 copies(sorry you had to deal with all those @render!) on sale for the EVO Skullgirls giveaway doing this. So yeah if any of you weird people want to try this too I'd be happy to help you out with this.

Skullgirlfanboy I said it once and I'll say it again why don't you do something to promote Skullgirls in your area like a tournament or start a scene you could use some of the money you get from tourney pots to support labzero and help grow the Skullgirls community.

I honestly think we should try to organize a move to make it seem that the PS4 version of Skullgirls (which is basically the final version of the game) is the second (or third) revival of the game. I mean other than guilty gear and Skullgirls there are no fighters for the PS4 we can think of someway to make that work in our favor right?

That's true! Also, L0 needs to watch WHEN they release the ps4 version. Ultra's coming out in it soon, isn't it? (Or am I thinking of 5?) Also, once I get my Youtube stuff set up, I intend to be VERY proactive. Death Arcana lives near me, I think, so I may be able to get his help! I'm going to be a while to set up, though, so I'm trying to think of a way to promote it in the meantime.

The best idea from this thread seems to be getting Markiplier or Peediepie to play it. If it's ok with you guys, I'll email them a copy later today. I have an old version that I keep unlinked from Steam so I can still use Earthworm Squig, so I could give them that instead of the full one. I'm 99% sure we can get Mark, just because he's a great guy. I'll tell them that the whole community wants them to play, and include a link to the thread. Maybe we could get some people requesting it in their comments (oh, right... are disabled.) or emails to back it up?

But no one do that until we get the mods' OK for it.

No that isn't the best idea, what are you even talking about?
Have you been listening to anyone here?

Well, correction: it sounds like the easiest free idea. Just an email and some luck, and L0's saved! Is that $5 sale still on, because that would help rope in some sales.

Uh... Who says Skull Girls is in Danger? Skull Girls is doing quite fine if you ask me. Yeah sure more players would be nice but.... I... you know what... I'm not stop you, I'm not going to debate with you anymore. Just do what ever pleases you. I'm out.

Wait, can you explain this old unlinked version to me? How can you send them an old copy of the beta, which was only distributed through Steam?

I am honestly so confused as to how you seem to genuinely love this game and are so proactive in talking about it and trying to generate interest, but you have such limited knowledge in anything to actually do with the game. Try not to take that the wrong way - interest in the game is good! However, I think a large part of why so many people (myself included) complain about your posts so often is that they would be far more useful if you did some research into them yourself before you submit them, particularly when the information you talk about is so readily available.
I'm not trying to scare you away from posting. Anyone who is clearly so into the game is of course welcome on this board, but you're wasting your energy and enthusiasm in badly made posts.

tl;dr No, the game is not currently on sale on Steam

Headgamez power-up! Why don't you try posting more youtube content on your primary channel? It'd be really great if you got some fighting game spokesperson to help promote your game!

Sorry, should've explained myself more! I got my copy a while ago, and loved beta squigly so much I put a copy of my game on a flash drive and never updated it, so I get the best of both! Thus is the way of the fanboy. Also, I didn't mean to comment separately, I thought those posts up at different times. Ad far as the sale, it seems a bit minor to say I don't know anything about the game... But anyways, is it ok to sent them it?

What, send them the NOT updated Beta game of Skull Girls of not Big Band and Not Eliza with a not finished Squigly? Don't you want to have these guys play the most up to date version of the game so that they can have an accurate view of the game? Isn't that a little flawed? Just saying.

...but I'm still confused as to how you're actually sending them this game. Won't they need the game registered to their account to play the game on Steam, regardless if it's offline or not? You can't just send someone a USB key with a Steam game saved on it and expect them to be able to play it.

I'm not just referring to this post, but in the many other across the site.

why are we sending people illegal copies through a flash drive?

Well, full version it is! But a quick question. If I can't judt send them the gane, how do I get it to them? Also, I guess it WOULD be illegal to send my personal copy, huh? LOL that's definitely an epic fail! I'll keep Earthworm Squig to myself.

I thougjt my posts were pretty good recently... If it's that concept thread, I already said it was an old post I was trying to fix (not going too well, though...)

And I agree with my brother. You need a guy to come on your Youtube channel and talk about it, like how Capcom has Peter Rosas. A video shouldn't cost much, right? You could try to emphasize how you're the fun fighting game that still appeals to pros. It would also get some Adsense money rolling in!

EDIT: Do they need to buy it themselves? And should we wait for Eliza's full release?

You should just give them a copy the full game instead of the very outdated beta you have so the game can benfit more from it. It would be better to wait for eliza to be released first and then send a copy of the full game afterwards so they can play it with all the characters lab zero made so far.

Any publicity is good publicity whatever gets the word out there.

Cool. Then let's all go out today and commit as many felonies as we possibly can, then we'll all simultaneously claim that we did it because of Skullgirls. That should get the word out there pretty quick.

I admire your optimism, but I've got to say that the easiest idea doesn't always mean the best. We've discussed the Youtuber and PDPie idea before and lots of people feel strongly about it and what effects it will have. We don't know how his audience will react and we don't want an influx of negativity if they hate it....

Also, the comic/manga, and cartoon ideas are something I'd love to see, but they're just not going to happen at this stage. L0 doesn't have the funds to do such things inhouse and if they go to a publisher like Capcom did for UDON they're going to have to pay them, give them a cut, etc.

I don't want to rain on your parade man, it's great that you want to help Lab Zero, it really is, but this is something that we should wait on, think things through and wait. Rushing into things half-cocked could either result in nothing, or a headache.

Brb. Gonna get in some Beowulf cosplay and suplex Donald Trump on national tv.

Yeah, that's probably best. So to sum things up...

TWO WEEKS!!!

Actually I would love to see a WWE appearance of BeoWulf vs Hulk Hogan. They fight it out but in the end some major scumbag just jumps on the stage and Beo and Hulk work together to take out their new opponent.

sorry I don't know the whole WWE universe.

As brilliant as that is, we should avoid filling this thread with memes, so don't post the report from the news/your selfie of the crime...

(But really, don't do that...)

Isn't that the story of The Avengers?

Giving people illegal copies does not help lab zero

Sending steam copies to the youtubers isn't a terrible idea...but it has admittedly been tried in the past with mixed results.

The two best friends play stuff has been rad, but max's playthrough didn't do the game too many favors..and skullgirls has been sitting in the steam train's library for like well over a year or longer at this point. I think Dsp took a dump on the game at launch not that his opinion matters. The common denominator here is that all these youtube personalities typically play fighting games regularly and have interest in the genre to an extent..

Mark and Pewds are cool guys..maybe they'll bite, but I'd prefer not to watch a longplay of just random mashing either (million subs be damned). However, all press is truthfully good press at the end of the day.

You're 2 years 2 late.
But yeah, illegal actions in general wont help anyone at all.
Instead, this game should be given to James Rolfe, so he and Mike Matei can review that game in James&Mike Mondays.
There is only one problem, though: The only way to give them suggestions is through Reddit. *facepalm*

and L0's saved!
Skullgirls isn't going to be saved more sales. I mean it's definitely a good thing to get some more sales here and there but L0 isn't going to get rich off of sales, and especially not rich enough to keep going with SG.
They just need investors that are, for whatever reason, willing to fund a project that has a high risk and a low reward. And there's the problem, right there. Skullgirls DLC is too expensive to be profitable. I think most everyone else has accepted that and moved on from the desperate hope for more DLC characters thing. Be happy we got the four we got and keep the game alive by playing it and getting other people to play it, not by grasping at straws to try and get L0 the big bucks, because unless you happen to be a billionaire with poor fiscal restraint you can't help get content added to the game.

Max has at one point i believe and there are a few people who do play it such as chris g, justin wong and i don't recall who else
