Lab 0's most insidious experiment yet was shown off for the first time ever at this week's Salty!, to much fanfare/horror. Ladies and Gentlemen, meet Robo-Fortune!

Between the Salty! stream itself and additional information supplied by community manager render, here's everything you need to know about the newest addition to Skullgirls' roster:

  • Robo-Fortune already has many of her animations robotized and cleaned: blockstuns, hitstuns, throw techs, ground techs, and a fair amount of movement options are all finished! These make up the majority of a character's animation work.
  • Compared to Fukua, Robo-Fortune will have a larger amount of unique normals to set her apart from her flesh-and-blood counterpart. Non-unique normals will still have their art robotized, of course!
  • Overall, expect far less animation reuse compared to Fukua; you can expect Robo-Fortune to have a custom intro, winpose, and burst. Her winpose is already implemented! Assuming Robo-Fortune gets a taunt, it'll also be new.
  • She might not have airdashes, and is currently a heavyweight like Double.
  • Her eyes function as headlights that emit beams of dynamic light, making full use of Z-Engine's lighting capabilities. Her vision is nya-gmented.

Several of her unique moves were shown off at Salty!, including:

  • A new fwd dash, wherein Robo-Fortune propels herself forward with an array of thrusters.
  • s.LP: Robo-Fortune extends her mechanical tongue to lick the enemy.
  • s.HK: Being no stranger to modularity, Robo-Fortune pulls off her tail and whacks the opponent with it. A redone version of Ms. Fortune's snapback in an entirely different context.
  • c.HP: A devastating electrified downwards punch.
  • j.LK: A fast kick with a high arc.
  • j.MK: Another kick with a slightly lower arc.

While the Lab Zero team chip away at Robo-Fortune, we've also received updates on Beowulf! NMO Arena now has (WIP) music, courtesy of Blaine McGurty and Brenton Kossak. Lab Zero Games' CEO Ravidrath also gave a status update on Beowulf, amongst other topics of interest:

  • The big hang-ups with him have been voice acting, stage music and story mode.
  • Voice acting is scheduled now, there's lots of progress on the stage music, and the story mode is being implemented now. As soon as his voices are implemented in the game, he'll go into testing and submission.
  • Lobbies will be in the Robo-Fortune patch, which will be released alongside the PS4/Vita versions.

I am really excited about her, but I honestly think this was a bad idea. The focus should have been left on Beowulf for now.

Beowulf confirmed Megaman with that unfinished stage theme though good lord
I'm loving all the little quirks in Robo Kitty's animations (her head doing a 360 in her crouching for example)
 
I wonder if Beowulf's release date and Robo-Fortune's release date will be close together. It seems likely.
 
I doubt Robo-Fortune is coming out in March and I doubt even Beowulf will be coming out in March.

You assume we had people working on Robo when they could have been working on Beo, which is not the case. All of the already-robofied animations were done by cleanup people while there was downtime for them between Eliza and Beo, and animators don't have anything left to animate for Beo so they have moved on to Robo.

Oh, you were talk about PR. Nah, it's fine. Beo will still have plenty of the spotlight. And honestly it's getting close enough that we should show characters earlier. And our animators want to stream animation!

<3 you guys, but come on. That track record isn't looking too good for punctuality (and I'm not blaming you guys for it, I'm sure things happen and things take longer than it seems).

I always wish you がんばって but, I just don't want to get my hopes up.
 
I'm really happy with the Arena music so far. I was getting so used to having the DiscoBallz theme set on that stage, that I was worried I'd feel tempted to mod it over the official theme too. No worries now! I still wish those cut songs could be featured somewhere in the game, but I like that Blaine & Brenton borrowed some cues from the Disco theme for this new track. Good stuff!

So yeah, that was a nice end to a Friday. Now I'm just hoping Robo-Fortune can get that Marina Liteyears palette.

aw i know you love the Wulf. but an electric toaster cat doesn't hurt either, aye? Personally I've always wanted one myself so I can have purrfect toast for breakfast. Come on. Beo is close to popping out the den into retail, I'm still hyped over the classic Mahvel feel of Beo's Stage. so much Hype, oooooooohhhhh~ i have goosebumps.
 
She looks quite robotic indeed liking her idle animation. No kidding there is more work being done on this character compared to Fukua. Funny how both character origins was born from a joke.
Had to play this during her reveal.
 
No one told me Fortune has a Taunt D=

I am SO excited for this.. I'm going Double Fortune for sure =3

The "Head light" eyes thing.. Amazing use of the Z-Engine. It gives an interesting, yet neat, look of the game's Shader!
 
Was Yamane not used for Beowulf stage theme because contract stuff or something?
 
Oh whoops, good point @Kit Ballard. No one told you Fortune has a taunt because she doesn't. That was my error in what I told @Flotilla for the news post. Assuming Robo gets a taunt (and I don't see why she wouldn't) it'll be new.
Damn.. Now I wish for a Fortune Taunt D=

I thought I heard someone mention a reused taunt from ms. fortune to robo fortune during the stream

I could be wrong
 
I like her default espression. Serious and evil.
 
I'm really happy with the Arena music so far.
Beo's theme is so catchy. But I wonder if something that energetic will end up on the empty arena too. Or could it get the sad story mode music again?

Will Fukua's icon be always visible when RoboFortune gets released? That would make a nice character selection screen.
I do hope so. That empty spot is just bothering me way more than it should.

Holy shit, I didn't expect this many people to be so uncomfortable with the asymmetry of the character select screen.
 
Can R Fortune's dash dodge certain projectiles? That would be cool, but I doubt it.
 
Im pretending RF dash is a Streets of Rage 3 reference.

I hope MF tag in line to RF includes copycat.

Really hyped.... gonna be OCD like Beuzer0 though. I'd rather see Fukua always selectable... or to be honest. I'd like to see Robo-Fortune invisible like Fukua, making all "clone" characters "secret". That would be cool.

I know that would be sounds dumb (?) if maybe R. Fortune deserve a part in the 3rd DLC with a proper Playstyle Speculation and Gameplay Inspiration like the others, tough.

Those writeups were only made for characters who were up for the character vote in 2013, which is why Squigly/Big Band/Robo-Fortune don't have them.

Will Robo Fortune keep having the screen shake as she walks like Big Band?
