The Mortal Kombat Thread

Look at their facial structure and skin colour.

The original one didn't even look like Tanya.

While I did find strange the change of skin tune of Tanya from the old MKs to the new one, I liked the new facial structure because it is a look you don't often see in games. Now it is back to basic woman facial design.

If I had to choose between the two I would go with the first image. If I was the boss I would go with face #1 and skin #2.

Oh, also having trouble with special cancels and throwing specials into combo, I heard if you wanna do that you input the buttons before it ends quickly, but I'm guessing not every Dial a Kombo can get specials thrown at the end of it?

What does throwing specials mean? I wanna say you meant special cancels, but you said that too so I really have no idea anymore. But most 3 or 4 hit strings are not special cancellable on the last hit of the string, so that's something you'll want to test in training mode with your character.

I meant throwing special attacks into your combos to extend them, it's early in the morning, my apologies.

Ahhh, had a feeling that was the case, becaues a lot of the time only two square combos can go into specials, especially with Shinnok

Looking at the Tanya stuff from the previous page, surely someone at NRS uploaded the wrong image.

The Tanya on the right looks more generic, like the design regressed back in development. Besides being paler than her MK4 counterpart, current Tanya is bland (needs a more interesting haircut), but okay.

Yeah I wish the movelist said if a move was special cancellable or not, or gave you other pertinent bits of information like how you can only do a fake teleport with Scorpion if you have full stamina. But I guess Skullgirls doesn't do that either so whatever.

I don't care about the design changes of Tanya except for one thing.

I am so glad they got rid of her manjaws.

Lately I also realized I've been doing nothing but Delayed Wake-ups, should probably learn to tech roll and reversal too

The combo structure in mk seems really different from Eastern games, maybe it's because of the dial kombat thing, or pop up... I dunno. Feels different

SG totally shows you when special moves are cancellable in the advanced framedata display (since that's the main cancel restriction). All it doesn't show yet is armor.

Jason Stream is this Monday, Ed Boon's gonna be there.
That's nice and all, but can we at least get a trailer showing him so I can decide just how soon I'm committing to that Season Pass?

IIRC, one of their excuses for notr showing frame data is similar to one used by tekken. Something to do with having hit spheres instead of boxes and how it doesn't look that good.

I think it's BS, but can't bust that myth.

I don't know if I'm bad at inputs, not used to the PS4 Controller yet, or that it's hard in general.
But these down, back, forward inputs (usually command grabs) man.
There's a tempo I keep missing.

Yeah I'm not sure what it is, but anything with bf and especially dbf or dfb motions are difficult to get as a cancel out of a string. I'm not sure why, but this is offline too and with very clean inputs according to the input display.

It's very uplifting to hear I'm not the only one, I thought I was just sucking hard, I wanted to try out Commando Kano and Wrestler Jax, I kinda like them both, it's just that damn input that's making me wanna pick a different variation
(Plus Pumped Up Jax's Super Gotcha feels so fucking good to land)

I've been playing Erron Black for a long time and I still have problems comboing into his command throw. :P I'm mostly just not fast enough concerning the best way to combo is from jab juggles. I just gave up. Tarkatan Stab or Caltrops are a better ender anyway.

Absolutely everyone I've talked to has been having trouble with bf inputs. They're really strict for no reason. They need to both be done fast and have no accidental diagonals. I think Sage might have had the right idea that this game should be played on hitbox, then you never worry about unintentional diagonals which will ruin like anything you try to do.

Hopefully not TOO much easier, it has also been a common problem in these games to get moves you don't want due to something being too lenient (biggest example being negative edge which at least now you can turn off). Honestly IDK how they make the inputs in these games so shit or why they insist on weird motions like down forward back.

I don't mind the two direction inputs at all, they're easy and not too hard to do, it's just those three direction inputs that are tripping me up and being harder than command grabs in most other games.

Doesn't the moves list already tell you cancel windows of every normal, kombo and special with the "cancel" stat? Like, if the "cancel" stat is 0, it's not cancellable with anything, otherwise it tells you how many frames you have to cancel the move into something?

why they insist on weird motions like down forward back.
I don't consider them weird at all. They've been doing them since around '93 (as has SNK) and fighting games as we know them got their start in '91.

To be fair dbf is essentially 632146 which is Potemkin Buster or the "anime 360"

NRS somehow manage to make their inputs feel bad in some way or other though.

Nah it's just that one that feels bad, I can kinda nail every other one.
Even if back forward is still kinda weird

"It's not that weird an input, SNK does the same thing" is not as persuasive as you may think it is
Its also not the argument I made. The point was I don't think input styles that have been around for 22+ years qualify as "weird".

Waiting for the Trade kollections of the komics, tbh

I am buying it on release, can't allow myself to be spoilered.

Yesterday, I beat the final boss on Revengeance. IT WAS GLORIOUS!!

Specially because, by some miracle, I was never spoilered with the story.

Edit: Now I am imagining Kotal and his rangers battling Armstrong and the Winds of Destruction in the "Dead Fantasy" setting (where everything is super more awesome).

Don't forget that the Jason Stream is today, guys.
Just thought I'd mention since it's on a Monday and stuff.
Same time as always.
Let's see the deciding factor in getting the Season Pass early.

Also, Jason trailer FINALLY out

... ... wtf ... ... that's crazy ... ...

does his X-Ray have Super Armor
does anyone else's have Super Armor
like legit question here
because holy shit if so

What if the super armor xray hits a super armor move? Because I think you could basically cancel xrays with super armor in MK9 with super armor moves. Hopefully that would stay the same in MKX.

Jason has a variation called Unstoppable and it allows him to revive after being killed if he has enough meter. More meter means more health on revival. No video since NRS is being super diligent with deleting all Jason gameplay being put up.
