Not among my favorites, but I don't dislike it.

Definitely my favourite show of this year, even though it feels like they are dragging out some plot points
i.e. Battle of Trost or the female Titan reveal.

ANIME OF THE FUCKING YEAR UNTIL PROVEN OTHERWISE.
Damnit this show is so GOOD. I knew it was going to be good going into it but I was BLOWN AWAY when I actually watched it. Amazing storytelling, beautiful setting, excellent animation, everything was just done RIGHT with Attack on Titan. One of the things I like most about it is that it takes itself SERIOUSLY.
It feels grown up you know? I am patiently awaiting the continuation of this great story.
I've only watched the first season so far, and I am waiting for the second season to end before I start up again, but I am sucked IN.

I'm a little sad that I feel like I'm the only one that's genuinely excited by this show.
I'll put this here and take my leave.

I think they're still on the first season though.

They'll catch up to the manga in no time seeing that it's just a monthly release. I expect a long break after this current arc. I read the manga and just watch the anime for highlight scenes. The anime does make it easier to tell all the characters apart.

I love this one. I can't help but get uber hype when Eren does his *you know what*. It's also good at conveying all the emotions and kicking you in your mental balls.

You know one "issue" I have with this and other apocalyptic fiction is that the titans shouldn't actually be as big a threat as they're made out to be. This also applies to zombie fiction. Yes they are super dangerous, but I struggle to think they could eat humanity to near extinction.
Though maybe that's the point as we're seeing some very interesting things with regards the possible nature of titans in the manga

Well...
The titans have 3 things going for them. 1, the fact that they completely regenerate from almost ANY damage, 2 think about how long it must have taken to discover their weakness, in that time humanity was basically dealing with invincible monsters, and 3 there's 1,000 metric shit tons of them. Zombies got nothing on the titans. Plus they're just so damn huge they kill people by just walking around.

I think they're still on the first season though.
Don't the first 13 episodes count as one season?

That's the general consensus. That the anime and manga basically rip your heart out and stomp on it.
Numerous times.
And you love it
You love it! You know you love it! You'll beg heicho for more heart stompings!

I couldn't figure out how to spoiler what was here so I just deleted it.

1, Eren is not THE main character.
2, Armin is A main character.
3, Most importantly, SPOILERS. There are people here who haven't watched it!

Nah, Eren's the main character.

Whatever, that's not important. Destruction needs to spoiler his post.

I agree that destruction should spoiler his post.

but to add to that, I found that Eren is the Title character, but not the sole Main character.

Oh, sorry, didn't think of that, I'll go back and spoiler it.

All you have to do is this.

[ spoiler ] Text goes in between like this [ /spoiler ]

Eliminate all spaces in between the brackets.

It's more a matter of logistics. There's typically a ton of humans, compared to titans, and humans can breed. Also with their relative size there's a lot of places that humans can go that Titans can't. Even if they hadn't made a giant walled city humans could have retreated to the giant tree tops, cliff dwellings, or gone underground and moved around at night.

I still think the Titans are way more dangerous than you give them credit for but hey, to each his own.

If the human's on the SnK had build a series of deep underground tunnels what would the titans be able to do? They can't fit down there and typically can't operate when not in sunlight.

I'm not sure but I actually think they tried that.

Even if those aren't collapsed tunnels I still think the Titans can dig them out easily. Besides all of humanity can't survive underground anyway.

Looks more like a canyon.

And you'd never be able to save all of humanity. I just think that they wouldn't be able to push humankind to the brink of extinction before multiple groups found places/ways to live that the Titans couldn't get to. Heck he titans haven't even demonstrated that they can swim or given reason to believe that they'd be capable of it.
Though thus far we only know what the characters know as far as all human's being wiped out. As the Manga goes on it's becoming clear that we don't know crap about what's actually going on in this world.

Well then here comes my ace in the hole. What do all humans need to survive?
FOOD
I bet most of the casualties were not caused by being eaten, but rather by not being able to eat. It would be impossible to farm enough food to feed humanity with the Titans roaming about. You can't farm in the trees, on cliff sides, on the water, or underground. You need wide open fields and that's what the walls are for.
This is backed by the fact that after The Wall Maria fell, the first and most urgent problem humanity faced was feeding what was left of it. It was so bad that the government sent out 250,000 people to fight the Titans, knowing full well that they would die and alleviate the food shortage. 20% of the population had to die because there wasn't enough food to go around.
That actually goes really well with one of the themes of SnK, which is the Food Chain.

My thought would be to tend the fields and flocks at night and supplement diets with mushrooms and stuff. It would totally suck, but since Titans are interested in eating people and not wrecking crops

New Manga Chapter is out.
This is turning into quite the scramble. How anyone managed to make it out alive from a giant mass of titans, on flat ground, is a feat in and of itself. Also how does one operate 3D manuever gear with one arm?

I mean first of all as far as we know the Titans simply become "less active at night", that doesn't mean they shut down entirely, which is understandable since even at night the dark side of the Earth is still receiving energy from the sun. Sawney and Bean were deprived of complete sunlight in a basement which is why they went completely catatonic. Also we have to remember that those two are 4 and 7 meter titans, who knows how long it would take to subdue a 15 meter class or an Abnormal with sunlight deprivation.

Plus even if humans were completely safe at night I don't think it's feasible to farm and harvest only at night. Maybe you could keep a fraction of humanity alive that way but it would be even less than the amount within the walls. Especially with their level of technology.
I don't read manga, where do I go to find these new chapters?

I'm not sure that I could tell you directly in the thread but it's easy to find if you google "shingeki no kyojin chapter *insert number here*"

OK thanks.

I'm not sure if it has SnK (probably does) but Batoto is a good site for reading manga online. It doesn't compress images to shit unlike ones like mangafox.

so, after finally getting a chance to read the manga and the first season coming to an end, I decided to give this thread a bump....

SO!
bump

Well the first season ended yesterday. I've been refraining from watching anything past episode 13 because I hate waiting for episode every week. I already know what's happening because I don't really make an effort to steer clear of spoilers. Next chance I get I'm going to plug my laptop into my TV and watch the second half of the season in glorious 1080p.
I think Attack on Titan may be the greatest anime I've ever watched, I hope it has a long successful future.

That final fight reminded me so much of the EVA 01 vs. Zeruel fight, I just sat there and waited for him to rip her apart and eat her. Overall a great anime with superb animation, but I think the pacing was a little bit to slow. Also tons of open questions.

When's Annie?
