Street Fighter V

Thanks to the magic of retcons
Hmm, when are you saying the retcons took place? I looked at the old SF Plot canon guide (it's got significant issues nowadays, but apparently the old info is okay), in it it not only claims he's 1/4 white (Dad is Japanese and mom is 1/2) but that "Ken started off as actually being Japanese. He was changed to quarter American in SF2." The problem is it doesn't say when this was and if it came from those old Gamest books. Just curious when it was changed

So if someone like R.Mika is in SFV then I guess the there’s a chance for Sean? Maybe bring some beach ball shenanigans with him.

Honestly R.Mika just decreased chances of Sean being in.

Because it gave more credibility to the "R.Mika, Karin, Urien, Alex" leak.

*walk in* excuse me:

This is not the reveal you wanted, you wanted the story reveal and it saying this game is post III because that's probably the only way you're getting it.

I thought he meant at all, as in ever.

The only way of getting alex is also if the game is post sf3...

new generation is where he starts fighting because his father or something like that. So, he wasn't a fighter before that.

I'm just going to sit here waiting for all the Q's to shuffle into my newly made "STREET FIGHTER CON: THE Q-TEST OF THE Q'S"

All Q's must bring at least one lamb for the convention.

The fighting/beauty contest will begin 9/8 central time

Her outfit is kinda stupid, but like...stupid in a sexy way. But still stupid.

And she's in a ken situation where she's Japanese even though she's blond and has curves of an american woman. Why is she even Japanese? Well, I like to think Capcom is afraid of making a 100% American character that isnt inspired by either Hulk Hogan or Mike Tyson.

Since she is a representative of wrestling in a fantastic game that exagerates things it makes sense that her outfit is sexy and stupid, wrestling is fun, powerfull and silly. She combines those elements well.

There only three ways I can think her as japanese:

A-One grandparent of her moved to a blonde white country, had a kid with one of the natives, said kid married another, moved to Japan and they had Mika there.

B-The Japan of Street Fighter has an aryan immigrant community.

C-Magical Genes.

Ken technically dyes his hair.
and I think he's half Japanese.

also
latest

100,000,000% AMERICAN!

Are you sure?

Hopefully if this is the case they'll rework Urien's design into some kind of zoner... maybe similar to SF4 Goken with the angled fireballs. Plus Urien's 3S gameplay kind of centered around unblockable setups which won't be in SF5 (if capcom has any sanity left).

Though with Karin Mika and Alex that is a LOT of characters with command throws considering we already have Birdie Necali and Vega.

We have 3 possible slots to fill the space of a complete zoner. We don't need to make Urien one.

You are seriously overestimating how much Capcom cares about canon, Makoto and Ibuki are like 14 in sf4.

they were able to fit they without changing their lore in sf3, makoto was rebuilding her dojo in 4, and in 3, wanted to make her dojo famous. ibuki in 4 ran away to find a boyfriend, in 3, she is making her last mission or something like that.

But alex, well, he wasn't a fighter before 3, at all.

I believe that capcom might do a soft reboot with SFV, retconing some dates and changing the timeline a bit.

Rufus is not inspired by either Hogan or Tyson...

FYI Alex was a fighter before the events of SF3. He lives with his dad's friend Tom and his daughter Patricia ever since his actual parents died when he was a kid. He was your average hot-head young man that would get into trouble often which put his 'fighting skills' [It was a mix of what Tom taught him and his own personal street fighting stuff] to the test to get out of it. He trained at Tom's gym often too.

He does love the people close to him so once Gill nearly killed Tom [New Generation] in a fight and I imagine seeing how scared Patricia was seeing her dad like that, it set Alex loose to actually fight for vengeance which [canon wise] he was the one that beats Gill. He didn't become a fighter overnight since that incident let alone a strong enough one to beat Gill.

He had no real reason to start fighting seriously [Tom his surrogate father figure was still fine] before New Generations at least until they create a reason, but he was still capable of fighting. I do agree though that if SFV is post SFIII events then it would be an easier fit [Post 3S he was on a quest to get stronger after encountering Ryu] then creating a reason for him to fight.

Nah, that "leak" got blown out of the water at the Evo panel. There was a graphic that showed the roster divided into three color coded groups: 8 characters in green (so far these have all been SF2 characters, but it has been speculated that it may include any SF4 vets, as well), 4 in blue (only Alpha characters have been revealed for this section so far, but it might be for returning characters who WEREN'T in SF4), and then the 4 newcomers in purple.

So, while there are three spots remaining, two of them will either be SF2 originals or SF4 veterans depending on how stupid Capcom decides to be, leaving only one roster spot left to accomodate any of the remaining three characters that Siliconera reported, meaning we could still get Karin, Alex, OR Urien, but it is unlikely given the current evidence that we'll be seeing all three at launch.

Half circles whyyyyy
As for that character roster graphic I still think it's early to say that the 'sf2' name for the green section might be early.

Daydream Headlock reduced to a normal grapple. What a shame.

double half circles though, oof

oh god double hcb. WHY.
edit: hell, yata had hcb x2 for azure's command grab super. then they changed it to pot buster motion which is more manageable. still kinda sucks but better.

Whats wrong with the half circles? I don't play grapplers much, but when I first started playing fgs getting spds to come out w/out jumping was a pain. I suppose this is for the newcomers, but does this decision reduce the usefulness of moves that would otherwise be 360?

You talking about this?

Cause I see only 2 colors there.

Not to mention that this could mean something... or not necessarily.

720s are so much easier to churn than double half circles. And if they wanted it to be easier, they could just swipe the way SG handles command grabs. qcb/qcf + lp+lk

Well then I guess I stand corrected. Can't wait for people being dissapointed. :D
Disappointment is to be expected when it comes to Capcom.

Still holding out hope for Juri but Stone Cold Rainbow Mika looks like a good fallback option for when they let me down.
