Street Fighter V

Well to be fair, how much input do Japanese gamers have for Western games when compared to Western fans?
I think that's mostly because of language barrier. I don't think many Japanese know English so they don't bother sending feedback.

Yes language and geography barrier is a bitch, but it is what is is. Community Managers for localization branches is the closest we can get to get our voices heard on foreign soil through the right channels, but quite frankly that isn't very influential depending on the topic especially with how different the cultures can be.

Honestly I didn't read anything particularly offensive in that interview because it's just common sense since it literally happens daily in every aspect of a country. It's not exactly a good look for your domestic people if you care about foreigners input more. Honestly it was kind of a loaded question combined with a nationalistic answer. Politics is also deeply buried in this too.

but not having virtually any influence on the development on a game you plan to invest in because you don't live in a certain country is worse
Technically that's what's happening in both cases though, since voting for characters is influencing development and we're locked out because we're not in Japan.

Also, I wasn't trying to suggest anything with the post other than "this sucks and there are other instances", though since we're talking about whether or not vocal influence matters is determined by country, yeah, this is worse.

It doesn't have to be more than the other. They can take in both feedback equally. That's what I really like about the current development of FFXV: even though it's a Japanese-developed game, they're treating feedback the same no matter where it came from.

Well I sure love being discriminated against.

This actually leaves a really bad taste in my mouth. I even LIKE what they're doing with the characters and I find this infuriating. Wow for the first time in my life I WANT Kotaku to post some kind of vicious overreaction article to this.
oh no, a game's country of origin is focusing on it's country's audience? how terrible?

like, it's not discrimination.

We're not locked out of the Xrd poll because we're not Japanese. We're locked out because we can't just go to the nearest arcade and play some REVELATOR; because it's meant to poll the PLAYERS on who they want to be in the game, not everyone in the world. If it WAS open to more people, we'd probably get something like SG's IGG waifu wars all over again.

I am a little surprised that Japanese players are getting more stock put into their SFV suggestions, though. I thought Capcom was going whole hog on the Western market like they've done the last couple of years. Then again, the average skill level of players in Japan is probably higher than in the US, so maybe they deserve a little bit of favor.

but from the grand scheme, tha game is having a world wide release not a japan first scenerio like most games. so they should be taking more consideration of what the worldwide audience wants unless Momochi and Daigo and the rest of the JP community are buying 100 copies each.

Daily reminder that Japan it´s a inclusive country a doesn´t care about the rest of the world on this topic.

If they turn out ok, i won't see the problem, i just hope that cammy doesn't become sfIV cammy in visuals, and that mika stays the same.

Oh I fully expect them to favor their own countrymen's opinions over foreigners but to have that as an actual stated policy for how they take feedback and make it public, its shocking to me.

Plus Japan isn't their biggest market so its not even in their best interests to do so.

not for Street Fighter, but for everything else Capcom makes?
pretty much Japan probably has first say.

maybe we should all slow down

because it's meant to poll the PLAYERS on who they want to be in the game,
I'm sorry, I didn't realize no one on the planet plays Xrd other than in Japanese arcades, it's a shame there was never any sort of home release that you could patch to give it access to the vote or anything.

not everyone in the world. If it WAS open to more people, we'd probably get something like SG's IGG waifu wars all over again.
I wasn't saying there needed to be an online poll, THAT would be stupid, but the arcade allows multiple votes anyway so you have the same trash on a smaller scale.

Well, time to make some guesses.

If Laura is real, she might be a capoeira fighter, besides the fact that we have elena.

And i mean, they already have the blue prints for a not-elena capoeira fighter.

I would really like a christie like character, because i love her in tekken, but she is not in tekken 7, and it seems that capcom did a great job with the tekken characters in SFxT.

Laura must be an jiu jitsu fighter. I think is different and cool. Maybe she can be a MMA fighter because some titles that some brazilian got it on UFC no long time ago.

Brazil is THE HOME of UFC! From before it was called by that name it was called "Vale Tudo" ("Anything Goes")

Brazil is also the home of the Judo variant Jiu Jitsu, that is also one of the styles trained by some MMA fighters today, so both could work.

I'm just praying it's not ANOTHER joke/stupid/gross/monster character. We deserve a bit of respect too!

i mean there's still not really any evidence that people from brazil aren't all like Blanka
No one's ever actually seen one, after all

I don't know if you noticed. but he is brazilian, just as you or me. '-'...

I don't know. UFC is the most boring thing ever made, and jiu jitsu is the most boring fight style to watch, but well, if fighting games can make capoeira look cool, they can do something with jiu jitsu.

blanka and Oro,truly brazilians...
Funny thing is that either of them are brazilian by the street fighter canon...

Oro is living in brazil, but he is some sort of traveler, and Blanka is american, but had a plane crash and grew up in a jungle in Brazil.

Interview with producers. More talk about 'improving' the faces particularly the female fighters.
http://www.4gamer.net/games/283/G028398/20150920011/

Basically saying they are aware of the negative reaction [reporter notes the mass negative reaction to them particualry for Chun Li and Cammy] and little by little working to make their female fighters 'cuter' along with the other things. Also said something along the lines of 'keep in mind SFV is a 2d fighter made in Japan'. Producers also implied that even though ComboFiend records feedback/data to Japan developers, the fact that this is a Japan developed game makes Japanese fans have the most influential feedback.

Take that as you will. Wonder what the final product will look like.
I remember rumors of that a few weeks back. I hoped it wasnt true...

Hey, you know that woman that has between 30 ~50 years old? let's make her more cute...

At least they are not changing chun that much.
Just to be clear, i don't mind they tweaking features and giving polish, but, i think it shouldn't go far from what the character is supposed to be.
Agreed. I actually like that they looked more mature and less.....soft? I'm 90% sure that's not quite the most accurate word, but I think it works.

It's annoying that Japan has so much sway over how the game is presented. That said, I wouldnt go so far as to call it discrimination as some have said. It makes sense that a Japanese company is more attuned Japanese voices. Beside they've done a good job at representing the world with it's character selection so far. It's not like their making SFV anti-European (Cammy and Birdie), anti-South American (Devour-our-ourer), or anti-American by removing Guile and reviving Charlie as revenge happy zomb-

......son of a redacted

and jiu jitsu is the most boring fight style to watch
Most real fighting is boring to watch, but this is a fighting game, Jiu Jitsu means we get another grappler, which is great, though another female grappler oddly, which is why I'm not entirely sure about it being Jiu Jitsu, since I assumed they were going for variety this game (a reason I've had doubts about Urien since Nash was revealed). Other than hair color, obviously.

The brazilian grappler:

okay im done with this joke.

Wait, wasn't Sean brazilian?

You got it wrong. There are no Gorillas in Brazil. In fact they are native to Africa and don't have tails.

But, as a Brazilian, I would be amused if the taunt of my representative was a single Hue just to piss the salt of internationals off.

I'm now going to be disappointed when it's not some sort of abomination that just says "Huehuehuehue" as its only form of language.

People complain all the time about how offensive Street Fighter is, after all, how dare a female Japanese wrestler wear an "impractical" outfit? Just go for it.

In case it isn't clear, I'm not being serious in any capacity, I've never even seen someone who even comes close to the online Brazilian stereotype myself.

Good point! Hmm, I remember Oro being Japanese but settling in Brazil, but wasn't Blanka and his mum Samantha Thai by origin? I gotta double check on that.

To be fair, in the time Blanka was created, a lot of us brazilians also imagined that any kind of stuff could exist in Amazon.

Not me...

Well, I lived a long time in the amazonic region, so there is that.

Man the Amazon is scary. My first memory is of when I was 2 and went up there to visit my uncle. There was nothing but wilderness and I remember him slaughtering a pig.
