having one palette swap character is no big deal.

Besides Fukua is not just a palette swap character, she has a completely different play style compared to Fillia's rushdown/ mix ups. Fukua is a zoning/ command grab mix up character.

Fukua just hit the Decapre bandwagon!

At this point I'd say compare Filia and Fukua to say
Iori and EX Iori in KOF 13. Same character with different tools and pros/cons. Its not a bad thing, and this is the only time something like this is happening (unless you count robo-fortune. I don't really do though). Fukua is unique in the way she plays and that's good enough for a lot of people.

This. Also, I don't know any other game that has a zoner/grappler hybrid, except for maybe Injustice w/ Solomon Grundy, apparently.

Totally
No hole in this argument
There's absolutely no counter argument to this
It's not like there's, say, a shapeshifting nun that takes at least half of her animations from other characters and unused concept animations.
That's just not skullgirls, skullgirls doesn't reuse animations, but fukua just came along and fucked everything up.

Marvel 3 had Nemesis

I would probably still be playing Marvel 3 Nemesis hadn't been such shit

snip

That situation feels different to me because it's a nod to a character's older moveset from older iterations of the game, and you still can't have both characters on your team at the same time.

I think the fact that the game has a small cast and didn't previously have any animation/color swap characters makes this more glaring, not a smaller deal.

That post was tiny why would you snip it

When the IGG vote was going on, I was of the opinion that everything was win/win regardless. Even if the characters I didn't like made it in, there were still more characters which is a good thing. Somehow I just don't feel Fukua is the same kind of win-condition.

I guess I just need to see how she's not completely ridiculous/good and actually exploitable. 40 hits of armor on a command throw that converts to a full combo, crazy projectiles, day one 8k+ universal BnBs, etc. are all kind of daunting. I really thought that was the joke more than anything.

I want new characters as much as anyone, but I'm still getting that ST akuma/sagat vibe from her.

Lol what this character is booty

In all honesty, while I've never played Fukua yet, I must say she looks fun to play and even fun to fight against, and while I haven't seen much saltiness over her, I feel Fukua should stay, but she can't be a simple shoehorn in the story because Alex already has the story fully set. It's really best to have her as a parody character. She seems like the addition SG might need because people complain all about how there isn't enough characters, but some wouldn't agree because to most fans, she feels cheap; to newcomers, she's an ugly, shitty, lazy as fuck clone. The one thing everyone needs to debunk these kinds of arguments is simply one day: April Fools Day. Mike Z has honestly worked his ass off, almost literally, and we should respect him for it. The choices he makes is for the right reason, even when he realizes there may be controversy. Besides, she's getting a full release with Eliza, lobbies, and she'll become balanced, so what's the point of these arguments if you get so much in one package?

Except that 40 hits of armor loses to sweeps and countergrabs. She's not as amazing as people are making her out to be. She's got her charm, and I have no problem playing as her, but she's not ST Akuma tier. Nowhere NEAR it.

If she is, I've yet to see how.

Seriously, I'm ready to believe it and have a free character on the roster, just haven't seen how yet.

She has an akuma palette. :DDDDDDDD

Well technically Fukua is made up of Filia's older moves from when SG was first being made. I do get your points though, but I don't think having her does more harm than good is all.

well how about we do what khaos mentioned. Except it would be someone vs the world of fukua players.

I would just like to interject here for a moment and make a suggestion for a new character.

Republican double. She is a double clone, that plays exactly the same, the only difference, instead of the garbled demonic voice double usually sports, She will have a surly butch voice. Republican double for 2016!

I mean day 1 and everything but after 1 day of playing the character and reading forums and seeing the tech that people are coming up with, my initial impression is that she sucks. Her mixup game seems weak to me. Her reversals seem very weak which is huge in the current metagame. The 40 armor command grab is like whatever, I don't think that move is even usable. It's going to hit a lot of people right NOW because no one knows what's up yet, but eventually everyone's gonna snap/sweep/grab/whatever it on reaction. It'll probably take a while to get there consider there are STILL people who don't raw tag Daisy Pusher on reaction but once we get there that move is going to have very limited applications. IDK I just haven't seen anything from this character to make me be like "woah they gotta get some nerfs in here ASAP".

Mike Z said zilch to EX characters, so there's no chance of seeing anymore of them.
Sorry Skullblood Painwheel, you are but a pipedream ;-;

BB can parry her fireball for days. Bella can deflect hella easy thanks to the startup buff she got. Armor grab can be counter-grabbed and swept. She can't airdash, so she has to focus on punishing mistakes and bad assist calls. On her own, she has her work cut out for her and she's a lot less braindead than Filia. Yeah, she has dirty grab resets right now, considering a few of her normals leave her at +0 on hit, but she just came out. Give her two weeks, and more tech and counter-strategies will be developed.

I'm surprised how many pages this thread has in a mere two days!

Well, she looks like a bag of gimmicks and she is one

Oh my goodness.

The users viewing the thread are growing again. I think they are just watching the show at this point. That's all this thread is now, I guess. Valentine, what do you think of this thread?

"What a joke."

When you have enough gimmicks they're no longer gimmicks.

I get that she's new and unfamiliar and that counters for currently annoying/scary things will surface and things will evolve from there. Fuck, I'm still free to Big Band, and I think most of the community agrees he's awful/gimmicky once you've spent some time in beta against him. The number of creative Big Band players creating/sharing tech is pretty small so there's this equalizing force working against him for the most part. Similar things happen/happened with Squigly.

Time will tell on Fukua and maybe she'll be similar, but I'm just not convinced she's not a fucked up character and would still rather err on the side of skepticism until proven otherwise.

In terms of having a more visual difference between Filia @ Fukua, perhaps you could do the whole no pupils thing with a slight glow in her eyes.

After all that's what Capcom seems to have done with their "Evil Ryu" and "Evil Chun-Li" clones, Love the palette references from Fukua btw, they just make the joke even funnier. Is palette #8 a reference to "Cloned Kasumi" from DOA?

I can't, you can?
Misinformed/ignorant based statements disguised as facts is not the same as harmless opinions. In fact if you actually read a couple lines down you would see I have no issue with people who simply have a different opinion or bring out logical sound arguments.

2. Half the people that they voted "no" who spoke up here did so out of ignorance or made illogical arguments. Although to be fair this was before Mike cleared everything up since all what we had to go on were vague interpretations and biased opinions. I respect those who make sound arguments and/or simply don't like her because of personal opinions as long as they respect the overwhelming majority that do want her in. Just don't try to spread misinformation on why you justified your "no".

Casually forgot this important bit did you? My argument was directed at "no" statements such as this, this, and this that are proved invalid either from faulty use of logic or got cleared up by Mike. My "half the spoken up no people " (which is roughly 20 people at best so not much of a stretch) statement is a much more accurate/likely statement then your "99% think she da best" opinion/statement (300+ people...yeah not simply a "holding a mirror" comparison).

@Number 13

1. I have trouble believing anything Mike Z would State at this point, we all believed we were only getting 5 characters and just because he felt like it we get a new subpar one (again great Aprils fools joke, but not worth staying), how am i certain hes not going to make Sqiffly or any other recycled assets character a thing just for the sake of the "Lulz"? Because he said so?

3. Marie was used for the sake of an example, the point i was making there is that people seem to consider a Fun to play character enough of a reason to include them without considering how it would affect the rest of the games quality of life and reputation.

1. Ah we find the core of the problem. If you don't even believe the actual developer when he says x or y will/won't happen then arguing/debating with you at this point will be a fruitless endeavor.

3. "Fun" isn't the only factor. Whether she is unique enough from a gameplay perspective, isn't completely broken in design, etc are other factors as well. You bringing up Boss Marie was a bad comparison because both situations are no where near related outside of the vague "fun" statement which can apply to anything depending on perspective.

Rest of your points have either been addressed or don't require a form of rebuttal.

Just keep her in the game, if you don't like her don't play her.
A new character is in the game, no one should complain.

Seriously, a lot of valid and moot points have already been made! Let's not focus on this anymore and plan next year's April Fool!
