Soooo, after watching 300 runs of the game by Northernlion, I finally understood it was my fate to play this game now that rebirth is out.
You can discuss about your discoveries, tell us about the most stupid builds you got, post run videos, synergies that are completely overpowered, etc.

On my part, I just did 3 runs aaand I'm the luckiest ever :
1st run : technlogy (slowish pew pew laser), soap (way less damage but CRAZY rate of fire), pentagram (more damage), and libra, that gives 6 keys/6 bombs/6 coins and seems to balance your stats. So I ended up with a normal fire rate again, counter-balanced with gigantic DPS considering I only got pentagram as a damage upgrade. Killed mom in 15 seconds.

2nd run, Cain : thunder thighs, mulligan, phd, guppy paw+soul converter combo (INFINITE HEALTH as long as you have access to the room where you left one of the two and keep the other one with you) so I had 8 red hearts and guppy paw for difficult situations, blood clot (damage and range), 5 tears up pills, mom's eye with luck up pills so I got the both-way shot at every shot, pact (fire rate and damage), 3 range up pills, 3 pretty fly pills.
Killed mom's heart without moving an inch, was so easy I gave the normal ending the middle finger and went in hell to headbutt Satan directly.

3rd run, lazarus :...
Infestation 2 (spawns a friendly spider for every kill you get with your own tears), dark bum (gathers lying red hearts and gives you soul hearts with a 2/3 rate), bum friend (takes lying coins and gives you every kind of consumables), Leo (you break rocks and poop by just walking into them, and the thing that made it absolutely bullshit : lucky rock trincket, that makes every destroyed rock drop 1 penny.
which makes that kind of thing possible in every room with plenty of rocks :

I didn’t play Isaac much so I figured to jump back in with Rebirth, and on my second run yesterday I got an item that is basically game breaking: Revenge Fly, something like that. It's a golden fly familiar that after you take damage, attacks the nearest opponent and deals constant damage to it until it's dead and then proceeds to the next until the whole room is clear. It works against bosses, too good I might add because it drains their live very fast.

I'm not good at Isaac and don't know much about items, but I beat mom with that thing, no problem at all.
Just play the best you can and as soon as you get hit the fly takes care of the rest.

Also got a funny combination with an eye growing on the back of my head+technology, sadly the back eye still shot tears and not lasers.
 
oh, one good advice :
if you have brimstone, or are Azazel, DO NOT TAKE Soy milk or Soap.
You'll have a gatling brimstone, cool. But you won't do any damage. You won't even kill a silkworm in one shot.
And becoming guppy as Azazel is absolutely worthless.
 
I got platinum god on WOTL and I can't wait to get my hands on Rebirth.
This one time in WOTL I got chocolate milk and technology 2. It would make the animation of me charging the milk, but the laser would fire indefinitely without me touching the keys. It did INSANE damage!

• yes! guppy hairball now really counts as a guppy item, so picking it up can make you become guppy...or was it because of guppy's collar? I don't know.
• another stupidly good combination : dark bum + soul coverter.

I had a sick run. Since I'm still new to this game, I don’t know which stuff I had but I looked like this at the end:

The flies and spiders were constantly respawning, I was fast as hell, could fly and fired cursed dark tears like a machine gun.

Almost beat Mom's Heart, almost, just a few pixels of health...sigh.
 
how to not care when you get hit : holy mantle, gimpy, infamy.
Bring on the pain, I'm gonna love it.
 
I was amused by this today.
Petrified poop trinket + flight + hovering over a pit = Larry wouldn't stop producing stuff in speedy rate for me while I idled.

how to unlock "???" :
get to a D6 room...become "lord of the flies" out of pure luck (I have no idea what items you normally requires to do that)
Was also shooting orbiting exploding triangles...
Thank you game, I was about to die with my last life and one heart container 2 rooms before mom's heart, now I have 3 heart containers, 3 soul heart and became an aircraft carrier.

Might pick this up eventually.

I was addicted pretty hard to the original Isaac for a time. After a while, I just kind of started to feel that underneath the initially entertaining randomization factor, it was somewhat poorly designed IMO (difficulty balance which goes out the window once you unlock a sufficient number of potent items, enemy design, boss design, unnecessary inertia on movement, and a few other things). I kind of burned out midway through Wrath of The Lamb and haven't touched it since, and later Rogue Legacy basically erased every desire to replay it from my mind.

Some of the new features look decent though. Liking the look of the large rooms. Might give it a shot when it goes on sale or something.

Also, the run after, I became guppy. I don't know if that's normal or if it was because of some synergy I don't know of, but it seemed a fly was created for every single little hit of each brimstone shot, so around 8 flies per shot, and each fly would do like an entire brim shot worth of damage. Resulting in "brim shot takes 10% of the big boss health, flies spawned takes the 90% left".

Aaaand...
Is that me or the game always want to give you more laser weaponry when you play azazel?
every run I do I end up at least with lil brimstone, robo baby and/or technology, and always with either krampus head or tammy's head.

The game didn't click for me with a keyboard
but I figured why the hell not, it's free on ps4. I really fuggin love the game.
I just beat mom for the first time tonight, and then was very close to beating the heart the run afterward. I've been streaming after work every day and really ahving a great time.

I was with cain, got quad shot early but wasn't doing much damage (no tear upgrade at all). Then I arrived in necropolis 2 with 1 red heart and a few soul hearts, got the wafer (cool, but wasn't going to save me in the womb with that little damage), get the deal with the devil, mom's knife is 2 hearts...I still had only one.
I took it and somehow I survived and kept the 2 soul hearts.
So now I have only 2 soul hearts, no item to replenish them.
Utero 1, got a health upgrade, which worked despite the fact I had a debt with the devil. Devil room, one heart dark bum. Without him I wouldn't have survived mom's heart for sure, I had one soul heart left.

Then I got a snowball effect, taking cricket's head in a golden chest and mark in a curse room, plus a bunch of coins for money=power, so I one shot mom and 2 shot isaac.
 
I absolutely love this game and the original, I haven't been able to put it down since it launched! My new goal in life is to get the real platinum god trophy, I may not get it for weeks/months/years, but it WILL happen.

Last night I got lucky and managed to kill Satan with ??? - if you get the Book of Revelations and Brimstone fairly early, so it's not very bad at all. I'm already trying to figure out what items I'll try to get when I start my playthroughs as the Lost (it's going to be insane).

I also really hope that the Binding of Isaac store (the one that sells real world goods like the figures and tarot cards) reopens soon, the developers deserve more money for all the work they put into this!
 
A thing you should know before mashing the space button :
IV bag DOESN'T care about invincibility when you use it.
You can have polaroid, chariot card and virgo active at the same time, it doesn't give a fuck and will take away half a heart.
 
I learned about that the hard way.
Anyone who is interested they should try this seed (BASEMENT)
 
On the IV bag note, I found out that if you have Isaac's heart, you can spam the IV bag item for infinite money since it hurts your body and not the heart :P

I don't know if you heard about the basement seed, guys.
Enter "basement" as seed, and you'll get into an endless succession of basement I and II.
So you can get every item in the same run.
So, I was sitting on basement 30 with mom's knife, triple shot and ludovico technique (hilarious, btw), and I encountered a D1 room.
Rerolled all my items.
Got this :
I think I became some kind of rocket man. That breaths spiders and flies.
With laser eyes. And drunk, so the lasers go spinning. And invincible, I couldn't manage to take damage.

I fooled around with the BASEMENT seed once. Apparently breakfast (a +HP carton of rotten milk) is some kind of default item, set to show up whenever an item is needed but the appropriate item pool has already ran out, likely to prevent the game from crashing. I noticed this after 50 of so basements when I started seeing it literally everywhere.

Defeated boss? A carton of milk.
Trasure room? A carton of milk.
Curse room? A carton of milk.
Shop? Could we interest you in buying a carton of milk or two, sir?

Well, I certainly did try to make it look like one.
 
if you end up with dr fetus :
- do not take peircing shots. ever. Because if you do, your bombs will go through enemies and hitting them will become way harder than before. Taking it is almost a death sentence for some rooms.
- prefer damage upgrades to fire rate upgrades. You don't want to hold the fire button except when you have a specific range/speed/fire rate ratio than will allow your bombs to not hit each other, sending them back in your face.
- lil brimstone is shit with dr fetus. You don't want to hold the fire button so you don't get hurt, so lil brimstone will never have an opportunity to charge and shoot.
- don't take piercing shot.
- Look eagerly for familiars that do damage passively, without you having to shoot. Else all enemies who run at you will be big pains in the butt.
- chocolate milk doesn't work with dr fetus.
- DON'T TAKE FUCKING PIERCING SHOTS IT WILL BE YOUR DOOM.
 
Me and gn4rk understood what items I got with the D1 room in my basement run :
Dr Fetus, quadshot, number one, cursed bombs aaaand pyromaniac.

Pyromaniac :
Icon : a simple heart engulfed in flames
Description : it hurts so good + 5 bombs
Effect : gives you 5 bombs and ALL explosions HEAL you for one red heart instead of hurting you.
...
Yeah I was basically invincible. Just press dat arrow key and watch the world burn.

I don't think I had an item that made the bomb explode quickly, I think I was going full rocket man because there were too many bombs in the same place, and the game made them explode because such bomb concentration shouldn't be possible.

Sadly I haven’t unlocked "It Lives" yet and no Devil Room spawned on Mom's Heart, I would've destroyed Satan with this.
 
was on my first good judas run, with chocolate milk and a bunch of tears up/damage up items.
And then I arrived in the chest.
4 chests, 4 items :
incendiary bombs (don't care)
piercing shots (uh oh, feeling good for blue baby now!)
money = power (uh oh, aren't I sitting on 99 cents?)
quad shot (...)

how to litteraly cut your way through rooms.
 
IMPORTANT : do NOT take monstro's lung with little planet.
Because you won't touch anything. At all.

Don't take mom's knife either.
