EDIT: 7/24/2015
Retooled my Beowulf Combo to enter the air more. Less damage, more reset opportunities, more corner carry. Learned three Beowulf Resets.
EDIT: 7/26/2015
Retooled my Big Band Combo for Taunt Ender, and a bit more damage. Learned a single Big Band reset. Starting to use resets more, and using mixups and crossups more effectively.
EDIT: 8/8/2015
Learned Big Band Resets and a Fast Fall. Pressure strings are better. Debating my next character.
EDIT: 8/22/2015
Picked up Eliza.
So I've had Skullgirls for a while now, and obviously I love it, but I seriously have had some issues getting good at it. It being my second fighting game (Starting on the rocky road of Calamity Trigger), I was/am a scrub, and since I had gotten a PS3 by the time I started to learn things other than chains and small combos, I had basically converted to Arcsys games. You know, the likes of Chronophantasma, Ultimax, Xrd. Stuff like that. So now I come back to Skullgirls after a very long time of considering it a "Once in a while" kind of game I never took seriously. After now becoming almost* tournament level at those aforementioned games (HUMBLE BRAG), I feel I can now appreciate Skullgirls way more than ever before, and see it as a very, VERY unique and enjoyable experience.
I'm so bad at it.
Basically, my close friend Meow-Professor has me on a life support of matches we play almost every day. That's really the only training I'm receiving.
I feel too weak for general online play, and therefore have basically just been playing her.
BUT TODAY.
TODAY, WAR CHANGES.
Assuming this is how any of this is supposed to be, I guess I'll list some stuff about how I am at the game or whatever.
A. Team
I use a two character team of Beowulf/Big Band. I feel confident with Beowulf, less with Big Band. Beowulf uses the [HP] Chair Toss assist, whereas Big Band uses Brass Knuckles [HP].
EDIT: 8/22/2015
Added Eliza to the team. Currently using Horus as an assist.
B. Combos
This is where I feel moderately ok with where I am. My combos are actually half decent, and (At least with Beowulf), I'm versed in converting with many moves. With Big Band I do worse, but as far as I know, my Beowulf combos are alright.
EDIT: 7/24/2015
Beowulf combo now does less, but has multiple reset opportunities, and a burst bait ender.
EDIT: 7/26/2015
Big Band combos are a bit better now, ending with a taunt, and doing a bit more.
C. Resets
Now, this is where the Arcsys scrublord in me takes over.
I don't really know a single reset. The only one I know is literally just a shabby delay on Beowulf's S.[HK] into the command grab. Other than that, which isn't even decent, I know nothing. And this is where I feel I need most definitely the most help.
EDIT: 7/24/2015
Learned multiple Beowulf Resets, still not good with Big Band's.
EDIT: 7/26/2015
Learned a small Big Band one. Gotten better with Beowulf's.
EDIT: 8/8/2015
Learned a Big Band Fast Fall. Some other resets.
D. Neutral
When it comes to neutral, I can fare alright. I generally struggle against characters such as Parasoul who can kinda dominate space better than me. Specifically Beowulf struggles against her, albeit not as much once his chair is removed, or if Big Band is alive to assist. However, in Blockstrings, I really don't have any idea what to do. Mixups and crossups are things I know how to do, but when it comes to safely applying them on a defending opponent...I struggle. I get beat out trying to pull them off, or just get predictable.
EDIT: 7/26/2015
Starting to pull off mixups and crossups more effectively. Losing neutral a bit less.
EDIT: 8/8/2015
Elongated my Beowulf pressure.
E. Defense
Look, I can block your attacks all day, Filia, but that isn't getting me out of pressure.
And that's the problem. I have enough patience to continue blocking pressure and resets, but when it comes to actually escaping those things, I have no clue. I try and pushblock, but don't know how to take advantage of it. Generally, I just end up blocking until I finally get hit, or my opponent does something simply too risky for me to NOT punish.
So in general, hitconfirms are difficult and blockstrings poor, resets are nonexistent, and some matchups are hard. I might need some help on combos, and generally I'm pretty shabby. Here's hoping I can get better.
Here's some stuff I'm (Sadly) doing currently.
So hopefully I can receive some help. I would love to actually become decent at Skullgirls.
(That and I don't appreciate getting bodied like the casual I am.)
