USA [Dec 11, 2015] NEC 16 - Main Game & $1,000 Pot Bonus (King of Prussia, PA)

I would do CEOtaku, except it falls in a really really inoportune time for me. You see, the week before, is nycc, and that is pretty expensive right there. Not to mention I already have to take 2 days off there, it just becomes unlikely my job is gonna let me off that next friday-monday (presumably) for CEOtaku as well. I'll just be flat broke with so many days off in that close of a time span just isn't doable for me. By the time NEC rolls around my wallet will be in a bit better condition and since it's driving distance I don't have to take any time off (maybe take Friday but that is yet to be determined.)

I am not going over a year without seeing Keninblack / Warped / the crew, that's why I picked NEC. It's also the more competitive tournament in terms of players. Even though I love everyone i've met in the FL scene to death, I do want to go to a tournament that won't just be Socks, Peanuts, and Kenin (if he goes) running a train through everyone. NEC also gives me more time to recover from the EVO / SGDQ financial drain that pretty much is keeping me broke for the rest of the year (on top of trying to get a car within the next 5 months).

I understand BL's frustration, but the biggest thing I want to say about CEOtaku is that it can be next year's big major if we have enough heads up. A lot of people (including myself) pretty much vowed to go to NEC before CEOtaku was even announced. If CEOtaku's lower entry numbers cause Jebailey to withdraw it from the roster next year, then I'm fine with that. CEOtaku was announced too late for the playerbase to dedicate to it, especially when a lot of us pretty much decided on NEC way beforehand.

For next year, let's discuss what majors we want to go to in the future way in advance. I'm sure that many people, including myself, would be willing to jump down to CEOtaku as long as we can all agree to storm in like we did with Combo Breaker. I would much rather support CEOtaku as well, but I care more about the players I'm supporting than the TO I'm supporting.

I really think next year's major lineup should be NWM / Combo Breaker / NEC or CEOtaku just so we have one major in most parts of the USA (sorry TJ & Khaosmuffins).

I can't speak for how Big E events are run (I'm fine with how my stuff at last years NEC went besides me and winnie's uniel pool getting screwed by hungry JP players) but I think SG was given a fair amount of support and winter brawl and summer jam.

This conversation has needed to happen for awhile (although I really don't know if this thread is the best place to have it...)

I guess this thread would be available if you wanted to have a more general discussion. Also keep in mind that because people often need a fair bit of warning so that they can organize time off, etc., it's worth thinking about Q1 2016 events pretty soon.

The rest of the discussion is fine here, though.

I've cooled down somewhat. I mean, I get it. Orlando is a cross-country length flight from literally everywhere*, Jebailey has not been very cool to us in the past (and even the initial banner for CEOtaku left out SG2E), and the tournament specifics were only announced 4 months in advance. It sucks! That's why I tried to go out of my way to encourage people to come and make a big event out of it overall in a unique way. On the heels of TFC, it's like, "Why are you guys betting on the wrong horse?" but really we're so close to CEOtaku now that it's nearly at the point of 20/20 hindsight etc.

The upside is that the "yes" numbers for the CEOtaku thread are comparable to those of this thread. And just like the Socal players abandoning SCR because Valle was awful, I understand people being super hesitant to support Jebailey's new business venture. If we get 40+, I'll be pleased. There are a lot of difficulties surrounding this stuff and there's room for both a Southeast event and a Northeast event**. If we break 3 dozen for a relatively last-minute event and Jebailey's not hip with that, we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. For now, if you want to fill that hole between July and December in a place that doesn't involve snow, the doors are open at whatever party we'll be throwing in the current top autumn SG major. If not, then tell Jebailey, "July was really short notice, but I'll come next year."

*All majors for me are equally and massively inconvenient to get to. This is something I think about when I ask myself why people don't come to majors near me. Don't think it doesn't occur that Florida is really fucking far out of the way.

**Go to GUTS instead of NEC.

If not, then tell Jebailey, "July was really short notice, but I'll come next year."

This is what I plan on doing. If people are anything like me, I start planning my trips to majors well in advance with other people. The KC SG players had already decided we were doing NEC before CEOTaku had been announced. If it had been announced way earlier things would probably have been different.

Skullgirls scrub here. I'm thinking of entering the tournament, considering it's only a short drive from my house. Should I be concerned about taking a spot from a better player, since the player cap is so low? Or should I just jump in anyways and add to the prize pool? Either way I'll be showing up to spectate at least.

For the love of all that is holy, Enter.

Please do enter. If we should happen to hit the player cap and a good player misses out because they try to sign up really late then they should have known better.

No no, you're super encouraged to enter! We'd love to have you!! :D

Don't worry too much about the cap. just enter and have a blast.

Besides it'll just raise the cap when we hit it early enough.

@Sylnic I want you to do me a series of favors:
1) Go online & check out the event's website and/or FB page
2) Give a nice stretch & crack your knuckles
3) Find the appropriate registration link and
4) In the paraphrased words of Jason Biggs's agent when he was contemplating the now infamous pie scene:

"I want you to the enter the -shit- outta this tournament."
Could you do that... for me?

@Broken Loose
July was REALLY short notice, there was no way I could possibly go as soon as I heard about it.
I'll totally go next year - provided SG's included, of course - because Jebailey runs really good tournaments, and I'm very sad I couldn't make it this year.
You can direct him to this post if you like.

Hum.

Okay, so my time off was approved, BUT instead of getting the requested December 10 - 14 (Thursday thru Monday), they gave me December 7 - 13 because the week of the 14th was fully booked.

I'll talk to my supes to see if there's a way to take the 14th off, otherwise I'm missing the last day of the event.

just pre-regged

In the OP it's listed as Skullgirls being played on PS3, is this confirmed or will it be on PS4? How did Summer Jam go? IIRC there was pull from people to play on each respective console

At SJ it was PS3 but IIRC that was because of a misunderstanding, we had intended it to be PS4.

I'm going ahead and booking a room for fri-sun. Any takers for roomates (since there's no roomsharing thread)

p. sure there's no roomsharing thread and nobody has booked yet because the group rate is still being negotiated and the discount code hasn't been posted yet

I am definitely interested in a room though but for thurs-sun

Ah then I'll hold off until there's a confirmation on a discounted rate. Still from what I saw the rates weren't too horrible.

Yeah the rates are about the same as they were for the Comfort Inn by Summer Jam tbh

So, if my math is correct, we already have more people pre-reg'd for NEC than we had actually compete at SJ9... I like those odds. Let's keep the momentum rolling, folks!

Welp, chances for me coming have gone down significantly. Car had some issues this week. The mechanic downgraded the problems from catastrophic, but it still ate a good chunk of cash. plus side is that the downgrade means there's still a chance, but not a great one

WRT places to stay, does anyone know anything about the raddison and/or places in the surrounding area? I checked out the area on google maps and there doesn't seem to be any other hotels for a couple miles so we might all have to stay at the venue anyway, but I'd feel more comfortable if I knew something about the venue hotel seeing as the previous venue hotel was rumored to be subpar.

eh... it's okay? i guess? I remember walking around the place (never really stayed there though) and from what I saw it's pretty much on the same lvl as the Clarion in Philly. So... yeah.
