Does LZ like people using the game's terminology or does it not matter much?

Not a big deal, just curious as a gamer & game developer. Using Capcom terms for Skullgirls is convenient I guess, but does it take away slightly from the lingo the devs created & reinforce Capcom's position in gaming? Example: people use Alpha Counter instead of Stunt Double. Guard Cancel Attack is longer to say. Super is more convenient than Blockbusters I guess. Maybe it comes down to what's easiest to say/recognize & what game came up with the mechanic first. Again, just mild curiosity here. Maybe worthy of a few responses, if that.
 
The creator of the game uses the "capcom terms" in almost all situations, in fact I'm pretty sure the reason Skullgirls has its own terms is capcom has the rights to terms like "alpha counter" a lot of players wouldn't know what "stunt double" meant off the top of their heads even if they know how to do it. Using the more common terms is pretty standard.
 
I remember way back when it was hella confusing to learn all them ensembles and blockbusters, only to later read stuff online and notice no one ever uses those terms.

Ah, the sweet days of learning FG terminology from scratch. Never again.
 
Try coming back to things after a long break. Terms like “Vortex” still make my skin crawl a little let alone the nebulous mush that is “Set Play”.
 
Cool, I see. Thanks. Yeah, I grew up w/Capcom going way back & the terms are 2nd nature, but wasn't sure if LZ wanted to have their own lingo used by the community more or if this is fine.
 
On that note, it kind of bugs me that Capcom changed the name from Super Combo to Critical Art in SF5....

I mean really, who are you trying to impress?
 
I like the terminology in Skullgirls.
 
This guy combo'd off his ensemble into a blockbuster sequel, but then triggers the infinity breaker and the opponent gets a stunt double on it for the turnover, but then doesn't have enough Dramatic Tension to finish him off so he instead uses the last of it to Outtake to the next character for an incoming mixup.

enssemble = assist

blockbuster sequel = dhc

infinity breaker = ips burst

stunt double = alpha counter

dramatic tension = undizzy

outtake = snapback
 
Dramatic Tension = Meter (meter in GG is "tension", see?)
Drama = Undizzy

Anyway, to answer the original question: I'm pretty sure that as long as you're talking about the game, we don't care which set of terms you use.
SG's terms originally existed so that we didn't use Capcom's or Arc's terms and risk getting sued, then we filled them out to keep the theater/film theme.
(Pushblock and undizzy are not official terms, so we could have used those, but theming!)

I like our terms!

But I'm an MvC2 player so I forget to use them. :^) For me it's Jab/Strong/Fierce/Short/Fwd/RH/assist/meter/super/DHC/alpha counter/pushblock/snapback/burst/undizzy/ground tech/doublesnap/a BnB is a universal, situationless, easy combo you can't drop/setplay is NOT randomness, resets, or reactionary, it is practiced situations where you always do the same inputs - hard knockdown okizeme in SF4 with a safejump into OSs is setplay. This community...
 
I think the SG-specific terms are cool, but most everyone took their terminology cues from Mike, so the MvC2 stuff is pretty ingrained in the community, at this point.

actually I used the MVC2 terms way before SG... but yeah SG's terms and MVC2's can be swapped in and out with ease. just don't use the SG terms in another fighter that doesn't really use all the terms that SG would use, like say... Street Fighter.
 
Personally I'm used so much to the "standard" terms than when the Skullgirls ones are used, for example, in patch notes I'm often lost at first as to what are we talking about. :P Though after thinking about it for a few seconds I mostly can figure it out.
 
I prefer Skullgirls' filmic/theatrical terms to the overwhelming amount of abbreviations that appear in general fighting game terminology. For instance, Blockbuster Sequel is much more elegant than DHC (delayed hyper combo). Some general terms could use a clever Skullgirls translation too.

"Yo, you shoulda ADC that OTG to DHC."

At least we don't have an abbreviation as awful as Street Figther IV's "FADC" (Focus Attack and Dash Cancel).
 
DHC is easier and faster to type than Blockbuster Sequel, though.

Granted that can be shortened as well, but it might give the wrong idea when someone asks WHAT WAS THAT BS.

like jab, strong, fierce, etc. i preffer the basic lp, mp, hp. Mostly because they can be translated well to portuguese.

But yeah, DHC, supers, etc are terms that are way easier to use all the time. xD
 
Plus non-sg players will know what you're talking about

I'm pretty much the same (except for the Portuguese part)
Using Capcom fighting terms is almost universal but I don't say standing fierce or forward roundhouse mostly because it's too much of a mouthful for me

I pretty much say A, B, C, and D for 4 button fighters and lp, mp, hp etc for 6 button fighters
 
One thing that I've actually seen new players be a little annoyed by, is SGC using the proper name of special moves. Updo instead of Filia DP, or Lock and Load instead of Rush Punch. Just a thing to note.

Also I totally say Hard Punch and Hard Kick because of Mike, now.

I agree with this statement but then again I feel times people just say a bunch of these abbreviated terms heck these terms in general to sound like they know what they're talking about (street fighter) cause its easy to say get the hard knockdown into meaty okizeme FADC into ultra 2 and even if it doesn't make sense, it sounds like I know what I'm saying... what was the question again?
