Doesn't everyone love Sonic? - The Sonic the Hedgehog thread.

I really had high hopes for this game.

So this game had 3 and a half QA testers

All this evidence I'm gathering to make a huge rant about why Sonic Boom is such a terrible execution.

The thing is like, Sonic Boom had absolutely nothing to do with Sonic.
You get down to it, it has nothing to do with Sonic.
Got no Sonic Team, got vague redesigns of Sonic, it's got almost none of the voice actors from the good games, and it's not about going fast at all.
Plus it's focused on COMBAT AND NOT HOMING ATTACKS.
What did you expect from a company's first game? They tried too hard to make a new-age Jak & Daxter and failed.

So Sonic Team isn't really to blame at least, well, unless you think they should've put their foot down.

Funnily enough, the best part of the game was the Shadow Boss Fight

He uses Chaos Control, Chaos Spear, Chaos Blast, and works as he does in the regular series. It might be the best boss fight with him in the series IMO.

But that's just cause it's based on previous Sonic games. Their own ideas fail.

I like to think of it as a Bethesda game:
Mostly functional but the bugs and glitches amuses you much more than the actual game...

... unless it breaks your experience completely.

The 3DS one is also vastly superior to the Wii U one.

The 3DS one is fun! It's like a regular Sonic game with light Metroidvania elements!

The Wii U one is slow. And the "speed" is boring.

What? The one that looked the cheapest and laziest to make is actually good and the one I was excited the most for is bad? ::headdesks::

now its time for the real question every one is asking

Sonic 06 vs Knuckles Sonic Boom: Rise of Knuckles Lyric?

I don't even need to watch the video. This yellow fucker is enough to tell me all. Also couldn't get through part 2, the constant "YOU ARE AN IDIOT, LET ME TELL YOU TO PRESS THE GLOWING BUTTON" the game keeps saying is patronizing, like I haven't ever considered using my eyes to take note of the environment.

"Ooohhh... You saw that right."

-Tagline of the LP.

Can't blame 'em though. JUST LOOKIT THE SPECTACLE OF 2004 TEXTURES AND CHARACTERS PHASING IN AND OUT OF EVERYTHING THAT ISN'T A STRAIGHT PATH.

While the question of "Which is actually worse" is up in the air, I'd rather play 06.

Simply because A) 06 feels better to play, B) 06 has some great songs, C) I can even attempt to care about 06's story, D) The characters in 06 feel different, not just he same character with one skill changed on each, E) 06 might have better textures.

Even if Sonic Boom ends up being a better game overall, seeing you say that Sonic '06 (a game who's disk you destroyed) is more appealing in ANY way than another Sonic game is so mind blowing to me.

I was completely devoid of any faith in Sonic Boom when it was announced, and it STILL didn't meet my expectations!

Part 3 - we get to the Hub world. It is the worst hub in any game ever.
This game looks horrible. At least the show is good.

Miiverse is golden

Ducktape is silver

People I think we have the Plan 9 From Outer Space of the Sonic series on our hands. Even Sonic '06 didn't make me laugh, let alone this hard. And that alone makes me want to say Rise of Lyric is a better game.

I hope the Game Grumps playthrough can manage another "A Beautiful Moment" or "It's No Use" level freakout over something in their Sonic Boom playthrough.

I don't really care for the Game Grumps, as they constantly veer off into random stories and non-sequiturs and rarely seem to care about the game they are playing, but the few games that are bad enough to capture their undivided attention like Sonic '06 have given us gold.

For health upgrades.

It also includes the 3DS version but who cares, it's basically only for the health upgrades in the console version

Well that was the final nail in the coffin for me. I almost wanna skip both versions after hearing that.

Couldn't they at least get the writers from the show to write for this game. I know that would be hard as balls but...

It could take away from the terrible bugs and glitches...

Like Pysconauts did *Please god I didn't mean it like that I love Psyconauts*

Oh and the $40 DLC

Wait, uh, what?
Are my ears screwed on right?
Are my eyes in the right way?
What the hell planet am I living on that a Sonic game (A bad one, even) has $40 microtr-
OH MY GOD, I am sooo irritated by this.
Like, they couldn't even make a good game, and then they have the audacity, the hubris, the absolute balls to have $40 DLC on top of that?
The music isn't even that good. I can think of maybe two other Sonic games that have bad music, now three I guess, and they come in charging extra? For this Sonic game that looks like it came out in 2005 and plays like it came out in 2001?
Do Sega have no shame?
Well, no, they don't, but I thought they had a bit more common sense than this.

The worst part is you know little kids are gonna beg their mothers to buy the 3DS version because of this now. BRB, Sega, you cheating scumbags.

And what saddens me the most is that the guys from BRB are from the old Naughty Dog, that developed the Jak & Daxter games, and the first three Crash Bandicoot games.

After the awesome Sonic Generations, they really shot themselves in the foot here both with Lost World and Sonic Boom, changing mechanics to see what could work or not for the blue blur, not noticing that the old mechanics are the safest bet if they want to keep the blue blur alive.

Not that anything that I will say will stop people to buy the game, though :v

That bums me out. Those Crash games were godly.

Sega is just kind of a stupid company nowadays
they really lost any grip on how to handle their own IPs

at least the show is good

I think Projared covers how bad the game in his review.

Well it's mostly because the games so buggy and the hubs are so barren. Sonic Lost World was okay-ish but this is Shit. Even though when Pro-Jared himself said "This game is not good" at E3 I got the message. And what else shocks me is how better the E3 version looked. I just hope they make Boom a TV show and make something like Sonic Colors. No wait, In fact if Sega just released Sonic Colors with remade levels, I would buy all of that crap.

You know what would have made me just sell my soul to them?

Sonic Generations DLC Level Packs.

I'll be all over that thing like a leach is to a giant vein.

AND THAT THERE IS A HUGE MISSED OPPORTUNITY. SONIC COLORS IS WHAT MADE ME GET BACK MY HOPES ON THE BLUE BASTARD, AND GENERATIONS MADE ME FEEL "YEAH, THE BLUE BLUR IS BACK".

Then this thing.

Instead we get Casino Night DLC that's just the pinball section. The music is admittedly amazing but still.
