Euro Fight
is a monthly double-elimination online european tournament.
It takes place on the second saturday of each month, 8PM CEST.

It's meant to be the main competitive european tournament now that Skullbats is on hiatus.
The rough idea was to organize an event that would be more rare and consequently more hype.

Every iteration of this tournament will be streamed at https://www.stream.me/SkullgirlsEurope.
If you are european and willing to enter, join the european discord server.

--

Euro Fight #1 will take place this saturday (the 7th) and will feature the cool commentators @zeknife and @JDbbx.
Come by and watch the cream of the crop of Europe battling it out!

On one hand I'm glad Squigly and Band won, but on the other I was rooting for athboy as well. Oh well, can't have both cakes, can I? That was a fun tourney stream, gratz zeknife!

Because in Ukraine shut off the light sometimes??
No, because my gamepad has served its lifetime and it's time to save up for a new controller.

it was a fun tournament!

EuroFight #2 will take place on the 25th of June.

(We couldn't do it on the first or second Saturday of the month for various reasons but we'll be resuming the normal schedule soon!)

Does this sound familiar?

Hey we went for one big bracket this time and it went much smoother I feel.

This was quite the cool tournament. The top 8 was filled with both creative and strong players, starting with Ranger, the resident european solobella! I heard this guy can kill 10 characters in one combo! Let's talk about Breaker. He's kinda recent but he made it as well playing a cheeky solofukua that's gonna make your head spin! Now Neffros. Neffros didn't do very well at the last tournament, but this time he displayed some impressive improvement. He almost killed zeknife you know! Darren, playing the bizarre H beam/D horns team, was hugely fun to watch.

Now we're in top 4 territory. Who are the top creatures of the european jungle? I'm super pleased about Muro's run. He's well known for his, uh, let's say "peculiar" playstyle. Like he doesn't really do combos... But his neutral game was on point today, meaning he kicked some asses! He ended up being 4th. Traveler and gentleman Mr Peck, playing his new team but still a big threat, ended up 3rd. Then there's this guy ath but nobody really gives a fuck about him, eh!

Aaaaand congratulations to our prince, zeknife, for taking it the second time in a row. Will somebody be able to defeat him someday? I'm not really sure at this point.

And obviously, thanks to JD and Rex for providing top-tier commentary. You were kinda cool!

Now some info about next Eurofight.
Eurofight #3 will take place on the 9th of July, 8PM CEST.
We thought it would be nice for a change to have an american person handle the stream and commentate, with help from one of our boys. Does anybody feel up to the task?

See you next time!

I definitely prefer this format over the round robin pools > top 8 one.

also i'm totally down to co-commentate the stream next time too, though i'll happily let someone else do it if they want to

having an american commentating would be fun, yeah, maybe someone who wants to come to Revo in november and who wants to learn a bit more about EU players?

Now... I think it's time for the pronostics...

Robins at pools means also more match to be played for everybody.
Just stream the top 8 and make round robins to access the top 8. The better way would be to have 4 groups and the 2nds that will be directly on losers top 8.
We were 21 on the last tourney. 3 pools of 5, one pool of 6. One top seed at each pool, he'll win the round robin and move out to the top 8. The stream begins. We, the lower levels, plays more tourney matches and the top 8 is still the same. Win-win.

The last tournament didn't have round robin pools and it still took almost 4 hours to finish. I don't think I'd call it 'win-win' if you made it even longer.

I prefer the idea that one of the early SFV majors had (Final Round, maybe?), where everyone who goes 0-2 or 1-2 in the main tournament gets to join a separate consolation tournament if they want, with its own double elimination bracket. This means everyone gets to play at least 4 matches and it gives the lower level players an opportunity to compete to win a bracket, but it doesn't force players who go 0-2 to keep playing if they don't want to. In a round robin format, someone who loses their first 2-3 matches is forced to keep playing against everyone else in their pool, despite the fact that there's no way they can make it further in the bracket even if they play perfectly. Round robin also adds weird tiebreaker and kingmaker scenarios where other players are in control of whether or not you make it out of your pool, which aren't present in double elim. Double elim all the way is how every other fighting game tournament works too, so that's a bonus.

Sounds cool to me. Only if people want to do that, of course.

I too think FT3 doesn't suit tournament which puts people of vastly different skill levels together. Would really prefer this to be FT2.

Well, this one was eventful. Congratulations to Sanji for stealing Zeknife's crown!

There was this issue with one person being so laggy that it made games an unplayable rollbacks fest. I promised it won't happen ever again so from next time on we'll enforce a new set of rules to guarantee anything that's laggy will be properly terminated.

Overall it was super fun though, aside from some weirdo button checking at roundstart. Button checking in Skullgirls. Can you believe it?

See you next time!

Alright, Eurofighters:

Next month's EuroFight will be on the 13th of August at 8PM CEST!

@mcpeanuts will (hopefully) be up for commentating but we need someone who can stream!

Send me or ath a message (here on SkullHeart, on Discord, on Twitter, on Steam, wherever) if you want to/can stream and commentate with mcpeanuts!

I don't feel like the target of this at all :PB:

BTW I really had to button check because of controller issues, sorry again about that

I heard some complaints about a second player, and last month as well...

Especially button check online.
@Dr. Oddwin why not check that in training mode before starting your match?
Also, it's more important to tell your opponent, not me. If I see both of you are not doing anything in game, I'll quickly recognize some tech issue or something, and we can restart it no problem. Of course, SillyO is not informed, he's gonna launch at you like a mad man.
No big deal, but that would be better if avoided.

i was wrong : next eurofight actually is the last eurofight before revo
if by then we still don't know if revo is retail skullgirls or beta skullgirls, we will play on the retail version of the game for a change

also : we now have prizes, steam keys for random games.
feel free to donate if you have a few spare keys you don't need

Massive technical issues for this Eurofight. JD can't stream and Izzmo's mic is pretty bad. But still, they did a fine job at commentating alongside Alex and american guest McPeanuts. Thanks guys!

The grandfinals are worth a watch, they were super intense and had us all on the edges of our seats.

see you next time!

That was eventful. Upsets, comebacks, tears & salt.

Thanks for playing!
Now, more than ever, I greatly enjoy being part of this community.
I hope you're gonna do well at revo!

This Eurofight was pretty special cause it happened while Rexoland in Maastricht and Drewbieland in Stockholm were taking place, so a lot of us played this tournament from the same room heeey it was a lot of fun.

A few words about some sets I played :

Neffros: Your Val felt so threatening! I certainly hope you will keep playing this way cause it was a lot of fun. I let you DJ out of a lot of mixups tho, so be careful maybe next time I will not be such a tame opponent.

Oddwin: I love your team and apparently it's slowly coming together. I'm probably gonna play Double and Para soon as well so we'd play the same characters... I still hope we can take top 2 at a tournament someday, coming from the same city and all

Alex: You played kind of recklessly against Huffy and I thought "ok it's not gonna be too hard", then you played some patient predatorial neutral against me and it was very destabilizing, good stuff. Stop fishing too obviously for parries tho

Sanji: Well you beat me twice. You played very well, good job (i mean it!)

It felt so much easier playing in an online tournament now that I've been to Revo to be honest. I'm not quite that nervous anymore...
People are improving a lot and it makes me really happy

Keep fighting hard, Europe!

17th : Blezzel , BuzzerZero , Raven , Ravioli , ViVr

Quite an eventful event, with most of us having to adapt to the latest beta changes, followed by another beta change during top8.
I was particularly impressed by the streamed matches. Alex420 showed some pretty hype parries and reads, a rare Huffy appeared with an unexpected and deadly Cerebella, MrPeck presenting good control of his matches with a great zoning team that seem to suit him very well, and zeknife keeping great composure in clutch moments during the final matches.
GGs to everyone, and congrats to zeknife!

And of course, thanks everyone for joining in. Thanks to Smile, Neffros, Ravioli, Alex and Izzmo for stream/commentary.
Next Eurofight will be #10. Should we do something special?
Hope to see you there!

1st: zeknife
2nd: Neffros
3rd: Sanji

commentators: Rex, Neffros and Ravioli

... and Ravioli sneaks his way into the top 8 again. Maybe it's a bit early to be talking about the new generation, but it sure feels encouraging. This Eurofight was filled with great matches and upsets, even! VIVr took it 3-2 against Ranger, congratulations.

Sanji was the alpha Peacock, this time around, as he defeated MrPeck 3-0!

Neffros' course was outstanding. Loses to zeknife 2-3, at first. Beats Muro, Peck and Sanji in losers, and fights zeknife agains in Grand Finals. Resets the bracket. Starts the last set with a clean 2-0 and then... and then, well, zeknife happened. Again. Watching these games was a real blast, though, better luck next time!

See you!

Congratulations to Mr Peck for another great performance !!!
Will anyone be able to take his title!?
Of best?

And then we have the tireless zeknife who made his way through the losers bracket to end up in Grand Finals! He lost, but still! That's something!

Ravioli made it! He's top 3! Is it cheats? Is it extraordinary amounts of luck at work? Or is he good? Nobody knows... That's quite the mystery!

See you!
