After a delay setting the announcement back by several days, Joey Cuellar (aka Mr Wizard, co-founder of the EVO Championship Series) has finally given us the lineup for EVO 2014. [prbreak]Read more...[/prbreak]
  • Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3
  • Ultra Street Fighter 4
  • Injustice: Gods Among Us
  • King Of Fighters XIII
  • Killer Instinct
  • Blaz Blue Chrono Phantasma
Super Smash Bros Melee was also confirmed to have a main game spot, but its inclusion is pending approval from Nintendo. As it stands, Skullgirls is poised to take home the #biggestsidetournament crown once again. EVO 2014, ladies and gentlemen.

I'm not sure of the logistics, but hopefully this side toury can get a live stream.

Does SG get Smash's spot if Nintendo doesn't allow the tournament?
QUICK, TO NINTENDO!

Tekken looks hungry for that biggest side tourney title. If they can get like 12 people together, y'all might be in trouble.

Well... We had 170 last year and the game has gotten more casual friendly in the recent patches, plus we got new characters comin'

170 people?! why isnt that a main game if it is that big?

-sigh- Another year, another side-tourney at EVO. Can we make this turnout the hypest ever so they can ACTUALLY consider us for a main game slot next year?

That reminds me. What build is going to be used at EVO? Encore 1? Big Band update? maybe the Eliza update? I'm assuming they're going to be playing on PS3, but using a build that's too fresh could ruin it for people since nobody(I.E.console players) would know what to do.

Likely whatever is on console at the time.

Why, indeed.

Just hopin for a non-salty cupcakes style stream. By the time you can tune in and they'll be having the tournament after party.

Probably whatever build it is by June.

And to all you people out there, let's all go to this and make it our goal to eclipse one of the main games in entrants. We might get a shot in EVO 2015 if we do. Might.

I'm gonna do my best to convince my family to fly me out there, so you all should too.

Here's hoping I can afford it. I really wanna go.

Skullgirls got SRK Fighting Game of the Year this year, and that still wasn't enough. We had a chance last year to beat MK, and we couldn't even do that even with a pot bonus thanks to the donation drive. I'm afraid there just isn't anything that can be done to get us considered. That's just the way it is. But I'll be more than willing to come out and get my butt kicked by you guys.

Injustice killed Skullgirls' chances
:BIN:
Even though Skullgirls was probably nowhere near next in line after the games that were announced

Next year we'll be out on consoles and every IGG character will be out. If that doesnt do it, I guess we'll just have to hope for the sequel and hope the "SG2" label to boost interest enough.

Yeah. After injustice, or if smash doesnt make it, itll probably be ST, then Tekken, then SF3S, then Divekick, then RumblePack, then Puzzle Fighter, then Skullgirls, then SFxTK.

Melty Blood had more entrants as a side tournament then at least one official game each year we were there. Trust me once you get over the questions of why and just enjoy being there, playing each other, and having fun, the question becomes: "Who cares?" <3

I can dream

I hope next year, I can't understand why this game is always pushed back all the time, we did raise so much money for cancer and dlc, we won SRK fighter of the year, but yet we some how are not big enough for EVO, this really feels like a slap in the face to the game

No. Us not having an active tournament scene killed us. Why would they take the effort to put the game in when we don't show up to nearly any majors or locals? I'm not saying "hurf go to tournaments or you hate the game" i'm just saying you shouldn't be surprised.

I guess we need to give Mr.Wizard a waifu pillow now...

170 at EVO is laughable.

Us not being a main game saved us the potential embarrassment of not getting that many people to show up and becoming a joke.

However, I feel like we can get a strong number of players thanks to all the new players via steam and updates... now...

Just show up.

Lets just do our best and hype this up the best we can, lets just hope for the same benefits we got from last years tournament and bring the players.

So, who else was watching the stream? I knew it wasn't, but my heart wanted to believe when he was describing Killer Instinct that he was bout to say Skullgirls.

we should do a deal with the tekken guys that we;ll enter their tournament if they enter ours.

...but I don't wanna play Tekken...

What SG needs is more numbers at every other tournament, not just EVO.

Like, EVO is not the only fighting game tournament in the nation, you know.

And on that note, y'all should sign up for SCR right now if you are able to go.

We've beaten that horse to death, at the very least we need to focus on EVO.

I'm confident SCR, ECT, UFGT, and CEO can bring good numbers.

Damn... I only own two of the games listed and I don't play either of them... I'll do my part and try to enter any SG tourneys in my area. But have no mode of transportation makes it a bit hard.

SFxT also lost its EVO spot, although it's kind of expected. Funny thing is that TTT2 also lost the EVO spot despite it being praised to heavens above by the players.

Skullgirls will have its break eventually.

This list is so accurate it's hurting me.

I'll make sure not to shower a week before the tournament so our stench is at least the biggest thing at evo.

There was stream time last year because we were an official-side-tournament. I doubt there'll be any this year.

At the same time, it's the one that "counts", because y'know, it's SRK.

Using a concert analogy: EVO's the headliner; mostly everything else is warm-up/opening act(s). Getting main game status at EVO is a bigger step than, say, ECT. At this point, though, getting SG to main game status in any tourney is a relatively big step.

Why wouldn't it be again, though? Was it not considered successful as a side tourney?
