Fire Emblem

Yeah but. How will the player raise support? I'm not mad the petting minigame is out in mad it was the only way to build a decent ammount of support and the axed it.

there are no good ones because

Hardcorps was a good one because the game's tension is basically killed by that mechanic. It goes from one of the best shooters ever made to an average one in the JP version.

The only reason I have to hate "removing things for a specific audience" is the precedent it sets. Otherwise it's just a choice like any other. I can sympathize slightly but in this case I find it hard to care personally, as I said.

do it old
only get S-supports by the end of the game like a real Fire Emblem

Umm, stand next to each other for a while? Like it's always been done?

so you're saying art SHOULD have the right to be censored?

I would be inclined to agree with you if petting provided any artistic merit at all. It doesn't. It's pandering, and if NoA decided that they wanted to remove needless pandering from the game, than it's their decision (And one I agree with, personally). As it stands, the petting crap only stood to make the game harder to take seriously for the average person.

Seriously guys, just chill out. This isn't even the first time mechanics have been removed overseas, it's not going to ruin the game by it's absence. Chill.

there shouldn't be a first time. ever.
I'm just as sick of it as much as I was about a butt getting removed from some Chibi Robo game.
I don't like it. period.
I'm sick as shit of it.

there shouldn't be a first time. ever

The point is that it's not going to break the game because some obscure mechanic that nobody liked was removed from the English version. Nothing of value was lost, and maybe some amount of seriousness was gained.

I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT FUCKING IMRPOVING IT!
GOD FUCKING DAMMIT!
I JUST WANT GAMES TO BE LEFT THE FUCK ALONE!

It's not about immersion, it's not about quality!

I WANT THE GAME TO REMAIN IN TACT AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE!

I just want a good game.

If the change is for the better, so be it. I'll take Wooley Kefka over boring original Kefka any day.

and I want an in-tact game regardless of quality.

doesn't matter if it's a 7/10 or 3/10, I don't want it to be changed.

congratulations.
I don't.

but go ahead and call me a weeb for being upset over the removal of something I DIDN'T PLAN ON USING ANYWAY

Patches alter the game from it's original release form, what makes those different? Or should games just never be patched or altered in any way from it's completely original form?

there's a difference between a patch and completely removing it because of a perceived difference in taste.

if Japan hated Eliza and the Japanese distributor of Skullgirls removed her, I'd say the same thing.

what if they kept it in and then patched it out after people hated the shit out of it?
what then

The more I think about it, the less mad I am. It was honestly the worst part of the game. Is it 'too dangerous for our western eyes'? No, but it sure as hell brought the game down. I just hope they do something to make up for the support points that you'll lose.
Wait, removing the thing from the game brings the game up?

But, it's still a feature, just not a feature that you can access, that's not changing the game, that's just taking something away from you.

Also, I would have enjoyed the rubbing minigame, so there's at least one guy.

Hopefully enough people complain to get it put back in.

Seriously, why isn't it just optional?

it is optional.

optional in the fact that if you don't want to do it then don't do it.

god forbid people have a choice in the matter.

So you could have gone through the entire game just fine without seeing it?

And it was taken out?

GAWDLIEK

woulda been too much effort to not do it i guess.

I knew checking in on this thread was gonna be a hornet's nest, and I was not disappointed.

I will say this genuinely does suck. I don't like things removed from a game for fear of backlash and negative opinion. If something jives in Japan, why can't it be ok in the west? NoA fears some kind social backlash, so they decided to get rid of it before people start with the outrage culture. Fuck that noise. People need to grow up. Don't like something? Don't buy it. Still want to buy it? Don't use that feature.

I must say the fear-mongering in today's culture is astonishing. Just because you disagree with something or find something offensive doesn't mean it should be removed entirely. Let each person be their own judge for that. I don't need an outside culture who I (most likely) don't even agree with dictate what I should and shouldn't do.

Now, I already have the game on preorder (and getting that new 3ds FE model as well) because I'm still a fan and want the game at it's base, but I do so with concern. I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed...

i dunno man there's this dead raccoon in my house, but it's not really hurting anyone and I can just ignore it so I might as well just leave it there
everyone complaining about "the smell" and how "unsanitary" it is just need to grow up and treat it like the ignorable thing it is.

well, I'm not being forced into your house.
I can politely decline if invited.

but that's too much work so I'll just burn your house down anyway so it doesn't ruin the neighborhood.

Ok so that thing with kotaku from what I heard might be bogus. Some digging around with people I know and people in the press say that there was no press release about it. It may be bogus

But take what I say with a grain of salt.

Holy shit that metaphor is fucking stupid.

Like, not even talking about video games here, just from a literary point that is really dumb.

It's more like "we all live in this neighborhood and I have some lawn stuff that you don't like, and the Home Owners Association thinks its a knock on the community"

Wait no, that's also not right because it's optional.

More like I have some lawn stuff that you don't like in MY BACKYARD.

i dunno man your backyard is pretty shitty when you have stuff like a dogfighting ring in it
or a blatant shallow grave
but I guess that's your business and not mine, even if it's still pretty shitty

I'm more upset about the damage you're doing to English prose than this troll.

I'll take my Kirby with some optional porn pls.

Have fun with the shitty JP version of Contra Hard Corps then. Pretty sure even JP fans and creators prefer the western release.

well, here's a shocker.
if i don't like it.
and here's the secret that I'll let you in on.

I dont have to buy it if I dont want to because of that feature. isnt that great?

The problem is that even if you ignore it, it's still there. To bring the house metaphor, it's like if you painted dead cats on your dog-door as a joke. People in the neighborhood know it's a joke, some are okay with it, and even if their not, they can fairly safely just avoid your house. But, if there's a vacancy and a family is thinking about moving in, they may be put off by it. Maybe they don't get that it's supposed to be a joke, maybe they do but don't think it's funny, whatever. Point is, they are put off by it and don't move in. Would it have killed you to just paint over it?

It's not as shocking as the massive plot twist that...

One can like something and still criticize aspects of it.

no, a better metaphor is if a new Home Depot was gonna be built, and i was excited because they have a set of lawn gnomes I like, but some people in my neighborhood think those lawn gnomes are weird, so they instead have it to where just that one Home Depot won't sell those lawn gnomes, just so nobody can have them.

to which I ask, WHY YOU GOTTA REMOVE LAWN GNOMES?!

then do it. criticize it. don't just advocate the outright removal of something just because it might be criticized.

My Kirby porn metaphor is the most accurate.

Anyway all these metaphors obscure the issue that Nintendo made the boneheaded decision to include soft-core porn otaku jack off material, that's one step above a body pillow, in an otherwise serious/drammatic game. It doesn't matter whether it's optional: one will always know that it's there, and its presence is a tonal blight on the game.

Whether or not you think it's alright to change games based on region, IMO Nintendo should never have included it in the first place. Being optional is not an excuse to stick shit in your game.

Hey, maybe I'll include an optional photo of my dick in the game I'm making right now. Let people rub it with the mouse. It's okay if it's optional...right?

A better-better metaphor would be if basically everyone else in the neighborhood thought the lawn gnomes were creepy as hell, and felt uncomfortable shopping in the store while the lawn gnomes were on the shelves, so Home Depot stoped carrying them to keep buisness and make the most people happy with their service.

that's your right, I won't take it away from you and demand other clamor for it to be removed, nor will I word your inclusion of it in a way that clearly shows bias.

I'll just say it's a dick and I don't gotta look at it so I wont. pray for me fam because it's gonna take so much work to ignore.

now I gotta go fight the urge to watch cringe videos. life is a blight amirite?

EVEN IF YOU DON'T SEE IT THE DICK IS STILL THERE.
EVEN IF I DONT WATCH THE CRINGE VIDEOS THEY'RE STILL THERE!

I DIDN'T REALIZE IT WAS THAT HARD TO IGNORE THINGS! GUESS I'M A PRODIGY.

It certainly makes my dark, dramatic, fantasy mythology feel so much more immersive and atmospheric, knowing that the author was kind enough to include some porn in case one gets bored.

No wait, it just makes the whole thing laughable.

Too bad Mr.Tolkien never thought of that one. Could have reached new heights.

Like I said, that's my opinion of the...mechanic itself. Changing games by region is a whole 'nother can of worms which I have somewhat mixed feelings on. This isn't just a "sjw" thing, it's been going on since the Nes days with features being sometimes removed, sometimes added by region, the legendary Woolie-isms, etc.. There are a lot of things to consider...and I'm too lazy to get into that. In this case, it's simply not that big a loss.

IT'S NOT ABOUT IGNORING IT.
THERE'S DICKS IN THE GAME.

I'm not saying that your opinion of the petting is not valid.
I'm not the one saying it's an "sjw thing" either.
I'm not saying anyone has to like it.
hell, I think it's really fucking stupid and will probably only do it for shits and giggles.
all i want is for things to come out in their original form as much as possible.
and even then, I don't like that being done in the NES days.

because everyone loves the Mortal Kombat without the blood and changed fatalities right? right?
there were people who thought the fatalities were just violent and obscene and who will thinking of the children?
but I guess because one game got improved by removing something it was all worth it amirite?

I never said he can't do it.
but if it's optional and I can ignore it, then I can ignore it.
constantly thinking about it is not ignoring it.
that's your problem if you can't.
and if you can't then you have every right to not play his game as a consumer.

you see, I'm defending both Squire's rights as a producer, and your rights as a consumer.
I'm not treating all consumers like they have to be given something changed.

I let them have their own opinion.
