I hope you all have your best formal wear pressed and ready to go, because the swankiest party in the Canopy Kingdom just opened its doors to the public.

Now that Big Band's Under the Bridge is complete, some development work seems to have been shifted towards the second of the Guest NPC stages and a very early version of the Glass Canopy can now be selected in the Skullgirls Encore Endless Beta on PC. Like the River King Casino, this stage will be populated by dozens of guest characters that were submitted during the IndieGoGo campaign, though virtually all of them will be in full formal wear to reflect their swanky surroundings. As a fun side note for you people fond of the Skullgirls lore, this stage marks the first stage set outside of New Meridian. The Glass Canopy is actually in the Canopy Kingdom's capitol Canopolis.

It's worth noting that currently the stage doesn't have its own music or guest NPCs yet. For the moment it just plays Class Notes' theme and uses a smattering of NPCs already present in the Casino. However, there are plenty of interesting official Skullgirls NPCs hidden around the stage already including two in the adorable screen below...

If this had been posted before the crowdfunding campaign ended I think the character vote result would have been very different.

Sharp eyed players might want to take a good long look in the back of the stage in game for one of the tuxedo wearing waiters. Usually waiting on people is a tankless job, but this guy is an exception!

(He's not in the above screen :P)

I see Panzer in the above screen.

All that salt has done wonders for Umbrella's hair.

I'm expecting some pretty formal sounding music, like with violins and cellos and stuff. Taliesin stage confirmed

I wouldn't trust that Umbrella if I were you, Adam.

I'll gladly accept your dance IN BLOOD

I can't help looking for Black Dahlia in this stage. As as long as she keeps her arm gun concealed, it's the perfect place for her to blend in. There are a few silhouette that could be her as well, such as the central figures in these ones.

Wow that's actually very interesting, I wonder how that's going to fit into the story mode? I mean it makes sense for every stage to be in New Meridian City since everyone can get around within a day. If The Glass Canopy is in the capital then it must be for a special purpose since a character can't just get up and leave the setting of the whole story, it would be too far away. I'm predicting some special post Skullgirl events for Eliza and Beowulf's story modes.

I'd say it's actually a little more mundane than that :P
The Glass Canopy is already partially in the game, specifically in Parasoul's story mode. It's the backdrop for her initial conversations with the Egrets and Umbrella before she leaves for New Meridian. A lot of work was done on it to bring it up to code as an actual stage, but the basic design was already fully fleshed out: http://venimarolka.com/pages/WillyHwang-SG25Atrium002.html

Think that eye is actually Hungren's eye, but it's creepy to think about.

AND OH MAH GAWD, UMBRELLA'S SO CUTE! Luckily she isn't standing on Adam's shoes while dancing, I would have had died from adorableness.

It looks gorgeous. Can't wait for the theme.
Just me or is that Panzerfaust's arm tank moving around with a drinks tray on top of it (it's just between Adam and not-Double)?

When's Glass Canopy [Empty]?

The new stage is looking awesome!

And now I see that Big Band's is almost done. Only one frame in one of his winning animations is still unfinished.

Is weird to say I had a dream that a stage like this would be in the game?
I'm serious I dreamed something like this would get in.

Can't wait for the theme. I feel it could be very "my" style, considering the look of the stage.

This stage is awesome I cant wait to actually play in it

Stage reminds me of prom night. Except with more exotic looking attendees. Can't think of what kind of theme they will go with since there are so many angles you can with for a royal ballroom stage.

Why couldn't the background NPCs stay on River King Casino.

They shouldn't fight in such a nice place.

Why couldn't the background NPCs stay on River King Casino.
Because there are too many for just one stage even with three different rotations. L0 opted to move the extra IGG NPC into this ballroom type stage. Both the casino and canopy were bonus stages meant to host the wealth of patron saints backers and above.

I cannot wait for this.<3

Edit: Is that Umbrella?! Now I want to see Parasoul looking all prettied up in a gown like an actual Disney Princess!
Isn't she standing right next to her?

I don't wanna sound like an asshole but bearing in mind the stage was announced months ago, that's some pretty shoddy clairvoyance. :3

Here it is in motion for those who haven't seen yet.
Aaaaaaawwww shit! Epic Guitar Man got moved there. Welp! Nice knowing ya, River King Casino. :P

Also just noticed the woman that fell into the fountain. With that hair, it looks like a stealth Sadako expy.

The threads of fate guided my hand to watch the Glass Canopy video just as the next tune in my Winamp kicked in.
I can feel it. Yamane-sensei has spoken to me.

Eh, I didn't notice...Is that really her? I thought she would stand out more.
We should know if that's Parasoul by the time the stage is finished at the latest. Just like Big Band doesn't appear as an NPC in Lab 8 if he's fighting, Parasoul should be programmed to not appear in the stage when fighting herself.

Now I'm confused.^^; Will the real princess please stand down?

Like Muro said it, its gonna be programmed like BB, when she is playable is not gonna be a NPC. char. remember that this is a early peck for the stage.

probably becuase its not final and still pretty early in development

Because there are too many for just one stage even with three different rotations.

As Number has said, there was a massive number of NPCs submitted (over 80 if I recall), which is far too many for a single stage. Currently there are actually 6 different versions of the River King Casino with different NPCs on each. If a Patron Saint wants to see their NPC it means there's only a 1 in 6 chance of their character appearing in a fight, and that's only 48 characters. If they put all 80 characters on the Casino it would be very annoying to find your NPC on the stage and it would appear very rarely in battle.

The reason some NPCs got moved from the Casino to the Canopy is because all the NPCs in the Glass Canopy are supposed to be in formal wear, to fit in with the regal nature of the stage. All the non-formal wear characters were put into the Casino, and the majority of the formal wear characters will be moved into this new stage.

When submitting their NPCs all the Patron Saints were actually asked to design their characters in formal clothes because of the Glass Canopy.

Actually the current Glass Canopy just uses the first set of NPCs from Casino, so Epic Guitar Man is still rocking out back in New Meridian!
