...Josh's struggle to not suck...

Not trying to be an ass, but I'm probably going to sound that way(I'm a real people person).
That statement is kind of generic, in the sense that it applies to nearly everyone(Looking at you, peacock!)I could make the same statement regarding Fukua i.e. Fukua with L Luger assist or Air George assist vs Fukua with LnL or Hornet Bomber. Not saying you're incorrect in any way.

That being said, certain assists(Bomber,Brass,Copter) REALLY compliment Squigly's ability to manipulate the amount of space on the screen(looking at you, zeknife. that meterless confirm brass/center stage is beautiful).

well obviously it applies to everyone like I said, but it just seems like playing against different (popular, obviously if you start throwing weird assists in there everything's different) squigly assists is a very different matchup MORE than with other characters (e.g. filia/copter and filia/bomber are more similar to each other than squigly/copter and squigly/bomber IMO). but again I don't play squigly so maybe its more of a perception of skill levels and the different assists are coincidental

I can tell you that double/drill and double/m shadow play much differently. One is much more aggressive and ground based the later is more spacing and air based. So I see what your getting at but regardless of assist I want to understand what I need to do to beat a squig reset and the only way to do that is to learn what's possible. Once I understand solo assist based stuff is easy

Well, we're arguing semantics then. My definition of Squigly and yours is probably worlds apart so my apologies for misinterpreting what you said.

How do I reset with squig.... I know the ground stuff like any move into stance cancel is plus so grab or low is alright. But in the air I have no idea what to do... The other thing that I don't get is how to convert off of ground throw? Is it silver chord that I use? Also what is the optimal stance cancel input on stick?

I need to learn more of her combos but resets right now are what throw me off

you can convert off ground throw with center stage > battle opera i think?

Some air resets:

s.HK > tiger knee L divekick
-Rejump > air grab
-Walk forward slightly, crossunder c.LK
-Do not walk forward, s.LP (same side)

s.HK > j.LP
-Delay j.MK (crossup)
-Delay j.MP xx H divekick (same side, reactable but hits people all the time anyways for whatever reason)

s.HK > j.LP j.MK j.HP, land, rejump > j.LK j.MK
-land c.LK (loses to people mashing buttons)
-delay H divekick (does not lose to people pushing buttons, but unsafe on block)

(corner) s.HK > j.LP j.MK j.HP, s.MP (1 hit) xx stancel
-pulls them out of the corner for a crossunder
-there's some way to get them to land on the same side but I never got around to figuring out how

There's several ways to convert off ground throw, but midscreen they're all going to use up some sort of resource. Throw xx Seria Center Stage > OTG c.MK, Throw xx Seria Silver Chord, or Throw xx SBO all work. If you have no meter and you don't have either charge you're going to have to hold that. In the corner you can convert without resources by just doing OTG c.MK, or you can throw xx stancel > s.LKx2 to convert and save your OTG.

qcf+PP is the only stancel I've ever used. The PP/KK shortcut has some sort of drawback like you can't do it on block or something. I don't honestly know because I've never done it because it had the drawback that I later forgot about.

Ground throw conversion: Throw, Seria Center Stage (wallbounce) s.lk, stuff \\\\ Throw, Seria Silver Chord \\\\ Throw, SBO dash forward, Silver Chord or otg-pickup. There are MORE but require creative use with assists. I use cilia slide for one lol.

Air Resets: j.mk j.hp fall to ground. From there you can: Max Range c.mk(trip guards anyone holding up when they land) jump, air-grab (loses to air reversals and fairly fast buttons if you miss-time the hitstun) f.hp when they land (suprisingly meaty but will lose to falling lights if you miss-space yourself), Liver Mortis(invuln startup, gives you a hard knockdown)

s.hk, j.lk (delay) H Divekick. You'll divekick them on the other side to convert for full combo. There's more, idk if you want EVERY one.

@mcpeanuts, you don't have to TK the L Divekick.

Edit 1: When I did play Fukua, my favorite setup from the air was jump *call Drill to place them in blockstun* H Divekick whiff into Daisy. It worked really well since people just came from blockstun and didn't immediately jump to block the divekick.

Isn't it just that you can't do it without charge? I know that's why I never bothered with it...

Uh not exactly sure what he means by 'shortcut'. I think he's referring to a macro(?) but if you want to manually seria cancel you have to QCF PP like he said. the PP shortcut is good when you hit because you're more positive and you're spending less frames inputting the motion. For doing some of her tighter links, you have to PP Link it rather than manually seria cancel, which could make the link a 1 framer. Other than making really tight links, i don't see much of a reason to do PP vs QCF+PP

and the s.mp stancel crossover is same side if you delay the s.mp. It lets them fall a little bit and land in front of you.

The shortcut is not any faster than doing it manually, you just don't have to do the qcf.

So I can't convert off throw without charge or meter? RIP

Also wait..... PP is a cancel??

And thanks peanuts for the wall of resets and options! I love knowing different decisions that can be made from X

throw - uncharged chord works on a couple of characters. It's a super tight window and i forget which characters it works on, but it's there. I can check tonight.

so you're saying you can do a qcf in 0 frames?......All right then.

I learned from wing that on double/bb/beo you can do uncharged chord to convert off ground throw but it's only with them. Also peanuts didn't mention this but regardless of whether you use uncharged (for those 3) or charged (universally) chord it uses otg; SBO is the only way to preserve OTG off ground throw midscreen

The hitstop of the move you are canceling from is more than enough time to input the manual cancel

if you buffer the input it comes out at the same time

not arguing the fact that you have sufficient time, I'm arguing the frames necessary for certain links is more positive using a PP cancel than a QCF+PP due the fact that it take 'more time' to input a qcf. It's not that much time, but it does take actual time. I know because I've made really dumb combos that are extremely hard to do using manual seria cancels versus PP seria cancels.

The frame advantage is the same, there is no difference unless you're actively stumbling over your own fingers.

That's the exact point I'm stating. You're RISKING losing a frame putting in a QCF and assuming you'll have perfect execution versus pressing two buttons. Why would you risk that?

Well I am so boned for NEC.... I played a long set with @drewski last night and I took maybe 2 games off him..... Granted it was 9 by the time we played but still....

Need to learn to reversal out of combos and less on wakeup
Need to absolute guard more...
Need to read situations better
Need to get in more effectively
Need to play higher caliber players More cause this QM grind is not helping...

Just to restate this I am boned.....

I think quick match is what you make of it. Like, unless you're getting green bars against every single person you fight, you're taking damage somewhere. If you took damage you made a mistake. What was your mistake? How can you avoid that mistake next time? Ask yourself that question after every game.

Also to your list there I would add "protect assists better" because holy cow Josh you need to work on your assist calls. Why would you ever call M Shadow with your back to the corner, do you WANT Fukua to die?!

Another thing I'd add to the list is "Learn better times to press buttons". You almost always press buttons at really weird situations consistently, and that can be exploitable. Now, pressing buttons on defense isn't necessarily bad cause you'll have to do it, but you really need to consider "Okay I just got counterhit for the 4th time in this same scenario, I really need to stop pressing a button here".

do you WANT Fukua to die?!

^ *imagines a angered peanuts shouting this* DYING

On that note. both of them got a point actually. I might record the replay i had against you. the last time we fought you did a bunch of stuff i don't really recall but i do remember me thinking "of all the options like double jump, j.lp, j.hk......you did fireball super?"

This will probably be my last post before NEC. I have Really Really REALLY been putting in effort to slow down and play footsies with my opponent and it has been paying off. I also took Sage's advice and I've started analyzing how my opponent push blocks and how to play that to my advantage. The other thing I worked on quite a bit was baiting not only reversals but moves in neutral that I can punish. I don't expect to do well at NEC but my god I'm going to give it my absolute best and see how I do.

Always analyze your opponent when playing against them. That is key to winning and losing. Don't be go into autopilot (I am guilty of this) when playing against people, always keep an eye out for what he/she might do, and recognize the pattern. Having good combos and resets are great, but it won't matter if you don't recognize what your opponent is doing. wish you luck, and hope to see you at NEC!

Eh, I'd argue autopilot is good up to a point. Autopiloting means your brain is free to analyze a little more. The key is to actually get your brain working rather than autopiloting full time

So found a new combo for Filia that is super easy does 7.3 midscreen and only needs m shadow. I'm pretty happy cause now I don't drop any Filia combos any more. All in all I feel a lot stronger now that I have combos with a million resets and are easy to do. I still have all my fancy solo combos but these m shadow combos are so easy!!

I think I've finally gotten to the point where I can actually keep up with better players. Granted I still suck but I think I suck less now (or at least I hope....)

Get off FREESN and see me in 360 bb. I'm all the competition you need. ˙ ͜>˙

So my post of telling my friend to get a 360 so he can play with me is shitposting?
Ok...
It didn't seem serious (honestly I couldn't even tell what you were saying, which is why I misunderstood the purpose of the post as I thought it wasn't meant to contribute much ;-;7), I'll restore it right now.

it was just casual conversation but okay lmfao

My encouragement was a shitpost. Message received T_T
it was just casual conversation but okay lmfao
It doesn't add much to the discussion, and it just adds clutter. Stuff like this should be in PMs.
@Meow-Professor it's cool dude you don't have to clean up in here. This thread is already a train wreck but I love it
It makes it a mess to read through, and really my job here is to make sure everything is tidy and enforces the rules. Again, don't want to be an ass.
